Farmbuildingfan reacted to No Roles in Gameday Thread: Houston Astros vs Angels (July 14th, 2023) Shohei on the mound
it's just time to get the farm from somebody for ohtani ! he is a 3rd rotation pitcher on a good team and besides this year a he is a power hitter with an average BA ...This 600 million contract he will get is basically spending a 100 million a year on the 6 years he will even matter !!! sorry to go against popular opinion, but the halos building around their young core is how they will find success not only quickest, but with sustained success too 🙂

Farmbuildingfan got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Gameday Thread: Houston Astros vs Angels (July 14th, 2023) Shohei on the mound
If Ohtani signs with the Angels for 600 million. He will break a bone and/or need TJ surgery and likely miss most of two years and not be the same in year three.
It is probably best he go to a contender and stay healthy.

This game represents all facets of Angel baseball wrapped into a single game.
Physical and mental defensive lapses, leadoff walks that score, and a bad umpire call that leads to two runs.
This game IS Angel baseball.

Farmbuildingfan reacted to floplag in The Official Hypothetical Ohtani Trade Thread
Im going to leave this one alone this time, not worth the headache, but Its kinda funny how if we want to trade for a guy it will cost us the farm but if we trade a guy we wont get anything real in return.
Youre never going to get full value, we all know that the time for that is long passed and we already blew that, but something is better than nothing.
I think the Dodgers are waiting on that call and make a lot of sense, but im not going to fight this fight any further... whatever happens, happens.

Farmbuildingfan reacted to totdprods in A little optimism…
Are we? I thought Drury was uncertain, Adell might’ve just pulled his oblique like Neto, and hadn’t seen any update that Moore and Neto were ready, only close.
Only optimism I have is that Shohei recognizes this team was doing good until injuries hit and that the youngsters are exciting enough to stick around and he buys into the future being better.

Farmbuildingfan reacted to AngelsFanSince86 in Trading Ohtani
To specifically answer your question, nobody wants to trade Ohtani if he plans to stay in Anaheim. But the thought is that he's likely to walk. To miss the playoffs and also miss a chance to trade the greatest mid season acquisition in MLB history would be something only a poorly run organization would allow.
If Ohtani won't commit, at the very least, in a, "I want to stay here if you are willing to pay, but I do need to test the market to see my value" type of agreement, then they need to trade him.
I said it on other threads from a couple weeks ago. They needed to go at least .500 against the d backs, dodgers, and Padres to hold onto the playoff/buyer mentality. They absolutely failed that. Their schedule is rough over the next month and I expect they will fall under .500. This is not a winning team and unless you are 100% that you can sign Ohtani, he needs to be traded to make the team better in the future.
If they don't trade him and don't sign him, it will go down as one of the worst mistakes in recent history. Just adds to the rendon, Pujols, Hamilton, Upton, Wells, etc mistakes. At some point they need to start making smart/tough decisions. We'll see if that starts this season.
Now, if they don't trade him and then also sign him, that's the best case scenario (well best case would be to trade him, but then also sign him). If that happens I will fully support it. I will also withhold my judgement on the situation until the offseason plays out.

I think it’s more why celebrate when they hit a home run that brings them within five runs in the 8th inning.

Farmbuildingfan reacted to Reveille1984 in Trading Ohtani
Yep. Arte ain't trading his cash cow, he'll milk those endorsement and marketing teats until the second Ohtani's locker is gone.
Unless Perry can somehow pitch him on it, I just don't see it happening. Moreno just isn't the type of guy who's going to put the future talent depth of the franchise over his shiny object fetish (and yet another reason we needed him to sell in the offseason, because we all saw this coming).

Farmbuildingfan reacted to Angels in 2030 in Trading Ohtani
Trade him for whatever you can get.
And for the love of God, make Arte sell this team. Enough with an owner who wants a fancy sports car and clothes to show off, meanwhile his house is rotting and falling apart from the inside.

No, not my word! If the Angels say they are injured and cant play YOU SHOULD TAKE THEIR WORD ON IT!

Farmbuildingfan got a reaction from DMVol in Trading Ohtani
I hate to see him go, but the odds of signing him are so small that trading him will at least gets you a decent return.
I predict the Angels keep him, then he signs elsewhere, and the Angels lose him for nothing.

Farmbuildingfan reacted to Hufflepuff in Trading Ohtani
No doubt at this point, we have to trade him. I get that there will be lost revenue by trading him, but it’s what’s best for the team.
Ohtani isn’t signing here, and the prospect haul would be much much greater than just a compensation pick for losing him to free agency.
He could really tip the scales in helping a contender win this year. I’d favor a trade with the Rangers, Houston, or Seattle. Deplete their prospects!

It is not only the # of injuries but the timing that sucks. Players always go down when they seem to be peaking and contributing at a high level.
Angels poorest performing and slumping players rarely get hurt.
-
Farmbuildingfan reacted to Swordsman78 in Never have I ever ....
Several is < 7 position starters at the same time for extended periods
Not aware of any team with this amount of injuries ever.
Even with the underperforming, the Angels were contending prior to the rash of injuries

True passionate fans cannot choose who they root for. Only bandwagon fans can choose.

Farmbuildingfan reacted to PattyD22 in Just Another Halo Season...
Last year during the catastrophic losing streak, the body language and overall make up of the team was very evident. I go to a lot of games, and saw it up close. I don’t have access to the clubhouse like Jeff Fletcher does, so maybe Jeff can give us more insight, but this team looks exactly like the same team that went through that losing streak.
This team, with the EXACT same issues as last year….injuries to their main players, questionable coaching, inconsistent pitching in all phases, poor defense, etc is like looking in last years rear view mirror, except with different players.
I had high hopes this year, despite brutal losses early in the season, but that game in Kansas City, at least to me, was the catalyst of what is going on. It was a demoralizing loss, and again, IMO, was the beginning of the end of the first half of this season.

Farmbuildingfan reacted to REDneck in Just Another Halo Season...
I don't think the Angels will improve until the culture of the Angels improves.
I have no way to quantify this...The last 8 years is a trend not a coincidence like a few here would like to believe.
Those same people will ask what I'm basing that notion from....well shit I'm basing it off the last eight years!

Farmbuildingfan reacted to Angels 1961 in Gameday Thread (7/7/23): Angels @ Dodgers - Rendon still out but active
I give Minasian and Arte props for this off season. They tried again to make a run at playoffs. Adding CE and Moore in BP was a big plus. Renfroe, Drury and Urshela for depth. Even to bring in Anderson for rotation. Some transactions have worked out and others not so well. O'Hoppe and Neto rapid rise seemed to solve positions Angels needed help in. Disappointment in Walsh at 1B but halos had replacements for 1B. Injuries started early with O'Hoppe and that was huge. Injuries to Neto followed by Rendon, Urshela, Trout, Moore, Drury. Again, I give credit to Minasian going out and trading for Escobar and Moose. He tried to bridge the gap until some MI returned. Rengifo has not been player of last year and Fletcher did have 1 good game but he has not helped. Angels spiraling downward fans frustrated. Deadline is close so let's see what happens.

I mean what was new ownership going to do?
trade Ohtani and go into full rebuild? We would have all been pretty upset with that before the season started. Even as soon as two weeks ago we seemed like a legit playoff threat.
everything went wrong at once and that’s just been Angels baseball for the past 10 years.
sucks they aren’t entertaining

it's crazy how the angels seasons continually work like a swiss clock. you can count on everything to go exactly as it did the year before and so on.
