I really really never understand the idea that being paid a lot should keep you in the lineup.  We see it all the time, and honestly, it is pretty stupid.
If I committed to a five year contract with some hack razor company that shipped me razors every month, and they ripped my face by using them, is it smart to keep using them because I am financially committed to pay for them?
Pujols star power is relevant.  But that part is fading.  He needs to be hitting 6th starting now.
Going forward, I hope the Angels are seriously not so stupid that they think their financial obligation should force them to play Pujols  (if there is another option better).
 

Jeez.  I wrote about this exact nonsense no more than like a week ago saying how pathetic it is that the media foams at the mouth over Jeter every time a shortstop leaves his feet to throw.
Jeter is a HOF player.  I do not question that.  But I will say he is the most overrated player I have ever seen.
My favorite way to show it is that Jeter's lifetime WAR is  71.8 over 20 seasons.
Grich is 70.9 over 17 seasons.
Jeter is treated like Babe Ruth and Grich is treated like Johnny Ray.
It's a joke!

Kinda how I feel.  I've always felt that a lot of people overrate him because he went 16-4 in his rookie season.  He pitched well that season--but was very lucky in terms of how his won/loss record played out; you usually don't see someone get that many decisions in 27 appearances, only 20 of which were starts.  He's just been mediocre since.  He also turns 31 before next season starts, and has yet to finish a complete season in the majors.

I vividly remember being openly mocked for projecting Beltre to be a future Hall of Famer.

With a media not willing to actually bring up the subject, total silence on it, why would Albert not be fine with it?  Why would he not think everyone is happily drunk on his historical greatness when nobody around him is willing to say otherwise?

Among the 99% of Pete Rose HOF comments engulfed in the idea that being in the HOF is an award to the player personally so that keeping them out is a dependable punishment to them personally.
I don't give a rat's ass how Pete Rose personally feels about being in the HOF.
I just want them to get it right historically as a museum.  And just tell the truth on the plaque.
"Rose is considered one of the All time greats  for his hustle and career numbers.  In the end, Rose personally destroyed his own reputation with his choices after his playing days and remains banned from baseball to this day."

The way his game has evolved even his home runs seem pretty boring . .  It's like driving 90 minutes in traffic to a restaurant to get a free appetizer.  Cool free appetizer??

I think he wants 3000 hits more than 100 WAR.  Just a guess.
.300 career batting average  (even though we have all evolved "past" batting average) seems like that would matter.
I'm just noting that if he is at .301 at the end of 2018, with 636 homers. . .does he try to push out another year hoping for good health and 24 more homers in 2019 to get to 660, knowing he would lose that .300 career batting average?

Harper totally gets away with it with me. I am fully entertained watching him and I have a massive amount of respect for his game.  I pull for him to be great.
I respect Trout's calm and mature approach.  And I respect Harper's attitude approach.
Each approach "works" for each player.  I don't have to pick one to like and hate the other.
Harper is awesome and I would love to have him on the Angels.

Everybody assumes after he hit better his rookie year that the only thing holding him back is Petco.
I wouldn't mind having him compared to some of the bodies taking up space on this roster but I don't view him as a big bat.
