Any thoughts on Neil Walker , he is just sitting there . If the Angels could get him for a 1 year at 5-8 million , worth a shot as a bench player? He plays 3B, 2B, and 1B.

He has to be added to the 25 man roster, which the 4 outfielders are far better on the roster. If not he has to pass through waivers to go to the minors , so we could claim him back.

Billy Eppler on Rebuilding the Angels
    by David Laurila - February 16, 2017
Thirteen months ago, we ran an interview titled Billy Eppler on Taking the Reins in Anaheim. At the time, Eppler was a first-year general manager, 100-plus days into his tenure. He’d come to the Angels from New York, where he’d spent 11 years in the Yankees front office. Armed with a background in scouting and player development, and a degree in finance, he was being entrusted to rebuild a moribund farm system while staying competitive in the American League West.
Progress has come slowly, at least on the surface. The Angels struggled in 2016, winning just 74 games and finishing in fourth place. Pitching injuries were a culprit — they remain a concern — while an offense led by the incomparable Mike Troutscored fewer runs than all but five AL squads. As for the prospect pipeline, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Keith Law recently ranked the Angels’ farm system, which was dead last a year ago, 27th of the 30 organizations.
Eppler didn’t make a splash over the offseason — there was nothing as notable as last winter’s Andrelton Simmons acquisition — but there were some meaningful moves. Cameron Maybin is now an Angel, as are Danny Espinosa, Martin Maldonado, and Luis Valbuena. In the opinion of some, Eppler’s club can contend this season if the pitchers — particularly Garrett Richards — remain in one piece.
Eppler discussed the team’s direction, and the philosophies set forth by his “Office of the GM” earlier this week.

Don't think so - not yet at least. He will see plenty of time platooning or playing match-ups. Could also mean Pujols is looking iffy to start the year. Gives us the flexibility to deal any of the Escobar, Espinosa, Marte, Cron, or even theoretically Revere/Maybin at any point of the year if the right offer comes in. Also can cut Cliff now without batting an eye. Espinosa can be the back-up SS.
If by some bizarre string of events they wind up adding Wieters and another MLB-tested reliever, this team is looking vastly improved, and different. And all for relatively little money.

that's the right math of course.  Although I just don't see how a C in high A who had a sub 700 ops and who's defensive assets have yet to translate to game play is actually a consideration when it comes to signing Matt Wieters.  If Ward turns a corner and can be an everyday major league catcher, we'll deal with that good problem.

I think Jered Weaver would be a great fit in San Diego -- a pitcher's park and he gets to pitch in the NL which has that OUT spot in the line up -- something that would really help a pitcher like Weaver.
While I'd like to see Weaver pitch in Anaheim again - the chances of that happening are slim -- and it might be better for the Halos and Weaver that he sign with San Diego.
I wish Jered well. He pitched well for us, gave the Halos a hometown discount to extend his contract at a time when his marketability was at its highest.
I will always root for Jered to do well where-ever he lands -- GO DIRTBAGS !!!

I would pass. Good player and if we had about $20m more payroll flexibility I would take that gamble, but it's too much of a commitment in dollars and years at this point, and limits our ability to improve SP, RP, and overall financial depth and flexibility. A cheaper option would still represent a sizable improvement in LF without the risk. Also, Calhoun produced more WAR than Cespedes, which I found interesting and a bit surprising.

Eppler's priorities this offseason should be, regardless of intent to contend in 2017, LF, SP, and pen. Maybe one more good bench player.
The more he can do there without compromising the payroll or farm, the better.
