He had shoulder surgery in 2013 and hasn't been the same since.

I wouldn't call him "the piece", but it's an interesting move. Minor league contract, low risk.

3.20 career ERA, 9.2 K/9 inn, 7 hits per 9 innings, 89 career saves. And he's not too old at 32.

There are a lot of free agents still out there that I expect to see the Angels sign.  The illusion of trying to win is just how this team operates.

He is no strain on the system. No risk and high reward. If he fails to make a comeback it is at a minor league $20 a day meal expense. If does return to the majors it was a value meal investment where as other acquisitions would have cost steak and lobster money. In any case most of you won't even know if he is released and won't have another thought about the guy a week from now.
