Swiss Angel Fan reacted to totdprods in One concern I have heading into the offseason
For all the hullabaloo we've made about Moustakas being a near inevitability because he's a local boy, you might as well consider Addison Reed:

    http://m.mlb.com/news/article/26299992/

Growing up as an Angels fan, Reed looked at Troy Percival and Francisco Rodriguez as his favorite closers. He loved the electricity built up in the stadium whenever Percival ran through the bullpen gates into the game. Even at this inexperienced state of his career, Reed also understands the professionalism and accountability always on display from Percival, even when he blew an occasional save.

He's only entering his age 29 season, there's a clear opportunity for him to close here for his hometown team, and his last three years, he's averaging:
    71 games, 70 IP, 2.66 ERA, 2.87 FIP, 156 ERA+, 1.10 WHIP, 7.9 H9, 0.9 HR9, 2.0 BB9, 94 K9

He's been my #1 FA target, at least for a pitcher, all year.
Give him the closer's job and a good contract, bring back at least one of Petit or Norris, and sign a lefty reliever from the McGee, Watson, Abad, Ross, Siegrist batch, and fill out the depth using more of the same formulas and scouts that rec'ed Petit, Norris, Yates, Parker, and Hernandez last offseason.

Reed, Parker, Bedrosian, Middleton, Paredes, Norris/Petit, a LHRP mentioned above, and whomever else as depth looks alright. We'll likely have a SP or two we can slot into there as well as a long-reliever.

Swiss Angel Fan reacted to Jeff Fletcher in Heyman: Angels likely to pursue Moustakas
This is how many of these offseason stories, including some I may write, come to be.....
    1. writer thinks to himself: Moustakas is from SoCal.
    2. Writer to himself: Angels need a 3B
    3. Writer to himself: Angels need a LHB
    4. Writer to himself: Angels have some money freed up
(So far this is no different than what you can do yourself.)
5A: Writer asks Angels exec, off the record, about Moustakas. Told: "We are looking at everyone. He is part of everyone." Or:
5B: Writer asks exec, off the record, from other team if Moose to Angels makes sense. Exec does 1-4, just as writer did, and says "Yeah, that seems logical." Or:
5C: Writer asks Moose's agent, off the record, if Angels are interested. Agent says: "Oh yes! Many many teams are interested including the Angels." Agent then spends 30 minutes convincing writer that Moose is the best player ever
Welcome to the hot stove season.

The key to job security is to have a 10 year contract.  But even as that contract dwindles, the other key is to have some arm injuries.  Then, you don't have to take any responsibility for wins and losses.

    Hello everybody,
I've been a member for quite a long time and really enjoy this forum, so I figured I should introduce myself and maybe take part in some of the discussions!
My name is Mathieu and I was born and raised in Switzerland. My dad, who is from So Cal, has been an Angel fan his whole life and introduced me to baseball when I was a kid. I've been following Angels baseball for about 10 years now! I'm now going to college in California, so I'm able to watch live games!

The first time the Angels were within one win of the World Series.
I was a sophomore at Esperanza High School and couldn't wait to get home and watch game 2 of the ALCS on TV that night. When I got home, my mom informed me that one of the sales people at my dad's work had two extra tickets for that night's playoff game. I didn't believe her because that had never happened for even a regular season game, let alone a playoff game. Seats were 10 rows above the third base dugout. Somewhere I still have my ticket and program.
Great night! Got to see Reggie hit a home run. Bob Boone successful sacrifice bunt with the bases loaded. Paul Molitor inside the park home run.
Bruce Kison was dominant, other than the Molitor home run in the fifth inning. After that, not one Brewer reached base in the 6th-9th innings. No relievers used in the game for either team. Something you almost never see anymore.
I still vividly remember walking out of that stadium and everyone so excited. We were all absolutely sure that we would finally get to see the Angels play in a World Series. They couldn't possibly lose 3 in a row to the Brewers, right?
That was the first time I walked out of that stadium with the Angels having a commanding 2 game lead in the ALCS, the next time would be 4 years later.

2.8 million for Cron is perfectly fine. Don't know why you guys are making a big deal over it. It's 1.5% of the total salary. Drop in the bucket.

One of the things that stuck with me after talking to Eppler/Scioscia is it's not like they are planning on all these guys being 100 percent healthy. But even if they are more healthy, that's improvement.
Richards, Heaney, Skaggs combined for 27 starts this season. Even allowing for some setbacks and minor injuries among those 3, if they could get 60-70 starts out of that trio in 2018, that's a pretty big upgrade.
That leaves 90 starts for Bridwell, Shoemaker, Tropeano, Ramirez and Barría.
I actually think it's very reasonable to think you can get very close to 162 games out of those eight. The bigger question is how good all those guys are, even if healthy. All except for Richards have performance issues, in addition to health issues. But Eppler feels confident they're good enough, and he seems to be pretty good at evaluating pitchers, so we'll see.
They are prioritizing the offense, in my opinion, because they don't even have guys to hope are healthy at those spots.

I wasn't at the concert. My sister was in a panic this morning until I checked in on Facebook. As far as I know, none of my friends or coworkers were there.
As you can imagine, this is dominating the local news.
This is exactly why Americans should not have unfettered access to any kind of weapon that they want. I have no issue with people defending themselves, but this guy had ten automatic rifles and a ton of ammunition in his hotel room. The death toll could have been far worse had he not decided to stop when he did.

A coworker's son in law and his wife vacationed in Anaheim from Indiana a few weeks back. They decided to catch the Angels game since they're at home. During a Calhoun ab, he ripped a foul ball down the line and it hit the fan next to them. Right into the beer cup and ended up splashing him all over. I guess Victor and Gubi were discussing it during the broadcast because word got to Calhoun on what happened and this was the result..
