i love how emotional this thread about minor leaguers has gotten. i know, ultimately, it's a discussion about a larger issue in america, but daaaamn some of you mf'ers get downright menstrual about baseball. if ever there was a clear sign how desperate angel fans are for a "tension release", this thread is it. definitely the stripling/pederson thread too. that one was like being inside the mind of a stalker.

You cannot put Ohtani as a lock for rotation. His arm issues go back to last year in Japan. If he comes back and pitches great but I do not see that happening. Ohtani has not looked good as a hitter this year so far. I can see halos trying him at 1B or OF as he could be answer for 1 of those positions. Maybe as Yankees did with the Babe,  Ohtani should be position player.

Maybe Pujols needs real fans, like the ones in St. Louis, to perform well.
Maybe the problem is us and we have been unfairly assigning blame to Albert?

Sorry Trout. But you don’t have a great team. You’re in last place. Last place by definition is not a great team. 

Rooting for Arte to sell the team or pull  the plug on Eppler and hire a real President of Baseball Operations guy to commence a true rebuilding process. They could start with a couple of buyouts immediately and just allow the youngsters to play. It’s ridiculous that one of the top 10 highest payroll teams is going to miss the playoffs for six seasons in a row and most likely next season also. 

I think this seems like the darkest days for me (fan since about 78) because:
1). it feels like this is the longest streak of meaningless seasons I can remember
2). it’s the same problem of lousy starting pitching.  Chinese water torture!
3). the impact of COVID-19 on family, lifestyle and (especially) work has me on edge and impatient, and baseball is not a game for the impatient
4). I can’t see/don’t have confidence that this starting pitching problem is going to get fixed
5). sports overall is less “recreational” and “relaxing” when politics is now omnipresent rather than invisible.  The merits of any individual issue aside, I just prefer sports to be an escape, a treat, a little 3 hour vacation, a “timeout” from real life.
 

It's dark when you have the absolute best player in the game and another guy that is top 5 and never even had a shot at the playoffs in a year when more teams make the playoffs then don't.

Somebody has to play left field.

They are the worst team in baseball.  In a best of seven series, there isn't one team in the AL or NL I believe they can beat.  

Was being the worst team in the AL that gave it away?

They should've done a full rebuild in 2010/2011. Once they didn't they pretty much locked themselves into this path they are currently on. Maybe if Albert lives up to the contract and Hamilton doesn't relapse things go a little different.

There’s no doubt about it. He wants to win and there’s no end in sight with the losing. He understands the budget restraints. 

Goodbye because if he accepts the qualifying offer that could be 18 million dollars less that we have to spend on starting pitching. 
That and Fletcher is a really good SS. Is he Simmons good? Maybe not but he's awful close. I've loved everything I've seen from Fletcher at SS defensively. 
If Simmons was hitting double digit home runs like his early days with Atlanta I'd probably do it, but his bat has regressed a bit. His at bats are painful to watch at times.

So you’re saying that if it turns out that he can’t pitch because of discomfort and if he can’t fix the yips at the plate he’s still worth keeping? He will be a negative war player at that point if that happens. I hope he can rebound but there’s no way in hell I would keep him around if he doesn’t. It’s counterproductive. I think people are still starry eyed about his rookie season which was great but that guy might not ever return. They have to be prepared for that. 

I’m glad we still have Rengifo.
