Baseball pitchers are the new football players.  Pitchers know that throwing max effort every single pitch is going to blow out their arms/elbows/shoulders, much like football players know that playing football is going to cost them later in life.  GMs only want pitchers that throw 95+ with a 88+ slider.  Velocity is the name of the game.  Back then pitchers would conserve their stuff and not throw max effort every single pitch due to it being a long season and the expectation of going the full game.  Pitchers were taught to "pitch" and not "throw," meaning mixing up pitches, changing speeds, changing arm slots, hitting your spots.  All of that is out the window now with the max velo approach.  I really miss the days that the starters throws 120+ pitches and goes more than 6 innings.

Saw some of the details of the investigation.  Wow.  I take back all the conspiracy theory stuff.  Ippei needs Gamblers Anonymous.

Interesting.  I'm surprised how quickly this investigation is unfolding.  Usually these type of investigations go on for a long time.

I’ve seen several that seemed to be clearly overturnable on replay that ended up being upheld in years past. That one was close enough that I thought they’d side with the ump. Glad they seem to be doing a better job with their standard to overturn this year.

Angels are having good at-bats this game, just need to get that key hit with runners on.

Nolan should be leading off.  He has a great eye too and has good at-bats.  He's also better than Rendon as a hitter at this stage of their careers. Rendon should be at the bottom of the order.

This is unbelievable.  I refuse to believe to that Ippei didn't know that betting/sports betting through his bookie is illegal.  He moved to the US during elementary school and graduated from Diamond Bar High School and UC Riverside, so he's been in the US for a long time.  I definitely believe Ippei ran up a gambling debt in the millions and asked Shohei to help pay for it.  Shohei agreed to do it, but once his legal team/representatives found out that the bets Ippei did were being investigated by the FBI, they're like nope get Shohei the fuck away from Ippei and let us handle it.

FWIW, baseball players can bet, but definitely not on baseball and not through illegal methods or offshore sites.

EDIT: His education is now a lie as UCR reports he never attended or graduated from there.  His employment with the Red Sox was a lie as well.  Holy smokes, who is this guy?

Man those are some memorable names.  I would have to say Pujols.  I was excited for Vlad and Colon when Arte signed them both after the disappointing 2003 season, but getting Pujols, an all-time great player to come to the Angels was a coup.  Of course there were warning signs during his last season with the Cardinals, but I thought it was overblown.  Of course, we all know how that signing worked out.

aznhockeyguy got a reaction from ten ocho recon scout in Do the Angels owe us an explanation?
What's to explain? Shohei wanted to win badly, so he picked a franchise that has won a lot of regular season games, division titles, and have been to the playoffs every season since he's arrived to MLB, that also has have stability in their front office and manager, with a great support staff.  He also received the biggest contract in MLB history and only have to move about 25 miles up the 5 freeway to make this happen.
Angels had 6 seasons to show Shohei what a great organization they were, only for Arte to cheap out at every corner, had 4 different managers during his 6 seasons here, and never having a winning MLB season since arriving.

The explanation is, we're a shit franchise, the Dodgers aren't.
