ksangel got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Tropeano to DL with shoulder issue
Tropeano has thefreakssstartingitis.

ksangel got a reaction from ettin in Texas notes: Alcantara rising in Arkansas
Thanks Chuck - really enjoyed reading an article where performance is rated lower than improvement. It's what the minors are about.

ksangel got a reaction from ELEVEN in Josh Hamilton needs another surgery
Arte will eventually pay him $107,830,000 for 2 seasons.
$449,291 per game
$105,715 per AB
$876,666 per RBI
$3,478,387 per HR
Sleep well at night Arte? Learn your lesson?

ksangel got a reaction from fan_since79 in C.J. Cron is just awful..
Agree with the posters who say it's time to give Cowart his shot and move Escobar to 1B/DH. Cron's had 2+ years to get it together.
Mets need a 1B with Duda hurt...wonder what prospects they would give up for Cron.

ksangel got a reaction from Angel Oracle in The Official Los Angeles Angels 2016 MLB Draft Thread
A college pitcher similar to the one they drafted in the first round in 2004 please.

ksangel got a reaction from elixir in Braves trade Jhoulys Chacin to Angels
Angels are on the hook for Chacin's $1M contract...so a salary dump for Atlanta. Atlanta will probably call up Chris Ellis who is tearing up AA.
Scioscia is running the team and he won't play young and unproven players - thus why they recalled Shoe and signed Chacin instead of calling up Nate Smith to give him a shot.

ksangel got a reaction from SlappyUtilityMIF in What about trading for Jarrett Parker for LF?
Great person...played one year ahead of my son on travel baseball teams in Fredericksburg, Va.
Had an outstanding career at UVa and was third team all-American. Was their CF on WS team.
6'-4" with a lot of speed - good defensive player but the knock is he strikes out a ton...even in college.

ksangel got a reaction from Erstad Grit in Why Not Try Austin Jackson?
Someone else may be able to provide a link but I believe the luxury tax is calculated at the end of the year so going over now to sign a player may not actually count.
i.e. they could trade someone later and be under

ksangel got a reaction from Tyler in Keith Law: "by far the worst (farm) system I've ever seen"
Farm system ratings are smoke and mirrors and higher rankings are typically a sign the major league team has stunk for a number of years and so high draft choices have been gotten.
Except for the Dodgers who spend big on the international market.
Angels have two good minor prospects (Ward and Jones) and numerous young players in the majors (Trout [yes he's young] Simmons, Heaney, Skaggs, Calhoun...etc.). If Perez and Cowart pan out it will help.
With Weaver and Wilson coming off next year and Hamilton the next the Angels should be able to sign at least three quality free agents to restock the major league team while waiting for the minors to recover from signing Wilson, Pujols and Hamilton - those three signings represent the state of minor league system.
It can be built up quickly and Arte stepped in the right direction not signing a FA left fielder this year.

ksangel got a reaction from eaterfan in I'm out of ideas (on improving the LF situation)
I'm so happy Arte didn't sign one of the big name LF FA's and lock into a disastrous long term contract again. Giving up the 20th pick does not make sense for Fowler or any of the remaining FA's. Remember the 24th and 25th pick's the Angels chose a few years back?
Signing Simmons was a great move and will solidify a key position for a number of years. Can't image what the rant would have been next off season after Aybar left and there wasn't a replacement in the farm system or in FA's.
Cron, Perez and Giavotella will improve...young players do with playing time. Be positive for their development and not always denigrate their short comings.
The starting rotation of Richards, Wilson, Heaney, Weaver and Santiago with Tropeano, Shoe and Skaggs in the wait is good enough.
Escobar replacing Freese is an improvement.
Trout, Calhoun and Pujols will continue to perform as they do.
Eppler is taking a chance that Nava will bounce back from hand injury. I like his makeup - remember him as a Calhoun type player for the Redsox and believe Eppler sees the same.
GO ANGELS!!!

ksangel got a reaction from Angel Oracle in There's a Reason Arte Moreno is a Billionaire
There's one main reason he's a billionaire
"In 1996, Arte Moreno took Outdoor Systems public. The companies stock soared, and in 1996 he sold the company to Infinity Broadcasting for $8 billon."
The Angels are a toy for Arte and he's risen his investment value from $180M purchase price to $500M (per Forbes).
And he's got all of us into thinking we know more than he does and to boot give him all our expendable income.

ksangel got a reaction from ten ocho recon scout in Orange County Register: A look at the Angels' 2017 payroll and the luxury tax
I've never figured out why Arte is so concerned about paying a few million penalty when he's paying Hamilton $28M+ per year not to play for the Angels.

ksangel got a reaction from Angelsjunky in The SF Giants Philosophy of Success
Giants drafted Lincecum, Bumgarner and Posey in top of 1st round when they were terrible.
Belt (5th round), Panik (1st round 29th pick - vs Cron at 17 that year) and Duffy (18th round) drafted as they got better.
Giants develop their 1st round picks....Angels don't (Wood, Conger, Bachanov, Cowart)
Giants keep their 1st round picks...Angels don't (signed GMJ, Hunter, Pujols, Wilson, Hamilton)
Giants don't trade their 1st round picks...Angels do (Newcomb, Grichuk, Corbin, Skaggs)
Pence is not homegrown...trade from Philadelphia

ksangel got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Cargo
Read it was trading Wilson (and eat part of his contract?) for Cargo.
Would be ok with 2 years of Cargo at his salary.
-
ksangel got a reaction from Halos of Anaheim in Cespedes
Heyward would be 32 after a six year contract and Cespedes 36 (if he really is only 30 now)
Heyward has very similar stats to Calhoun but better base stealing stats and similar defense. Calhoun, Trout and Heyward would be a great OF.
Not sure Angels need another power hitter. Acquire a legit lead off hitter, Calhoun #2, Heyward #3, Trout #4 and Pujols #5

ksangel got a reaction from Vegas Halo Fan in 8 reasons why the Angels will still make the playoffs
White Sox aren't a very good baseball team - they swept the Angels in August
Indians aren't a very good baseball team - they swept the Angels in August
It was said the Astros aren't a very good baseball team - they swept the Angels in July
Dodgers probably aren't a very good baseball team either - they swept the Angels in July/August
We did land on the moon and the earth isn't flat either

ksangel got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Freese
Freese is the top and youngest 3B free agent. He will substantial offers from teams needing a 3B. Hopefully it's not the Angels!
Let Cowart play 3B...great defense and he just needs to play.

ksangel got a reaction from laagamer in Is Trout Playing Hurt?
Since returning to lineup at end of July from wrist injury (Angels are 7-12) here are Trout's stats:
.188 BA - 3 doubles - 2 HR's - 7 RBI's and 21K's in 82 plate appearances
BA has dropped from .312 to .294
OBP has dropped from .404 to .391
Slugging% has dropped from .642 to .586
Hurt or just in a mini-slump??
