The protest is never going to be upheld, anyway...but
    From MLB rule 4.19:
"“Even if it is held that the protested decision violated the rules, no replay of the game will be ordered unless in the opinion of the League President the violation adversely affected the protesting teams chances of winning the game.”"
The Angels didn't score that inning. The A's could argue that they burned a few pitchers, had to face additional batters, etc.. But that would never be rewarded.

People find a way to complain about stadium fans for anything. So what if they do the wave, so what if they have beach balls and light up their phones. Only pretentious a-holes go to the game and complain about everything. Stay your ass at home if you hate people, like me.

I don't think we are crap, but we have gone 9-14 in one run games against good teams.  Thats a lot of one run games lost.  I keep saying the same thing to myself, but it gets old.  How many times do we lose close games because our hitting didn't produce or we committed errors.  I think its past the point of being the exception to the rule. I still will have hope and will continue to torture myself as well.  But I definitely understand the frustration people have posted.  It sucks having the most exciting player on your team go down for the season (Trout has been great before the all star break, but personally I think overall Richards has been the most fun to watch this season) and on top of that losing basically every exciting series of the season.  It definitely gives me doubts about their ability to perform in the playoffs.  I have not and will not write them off at any point.  But I will not shy away from letting out my frustrations haha.

In 2013 he was 17-7 with a 3.39 ERA which placed him 13th best in the American League. That would mean that in a league of 15 teams he is the ACE of at least three of them. He also pitched 212 innings making him a reliable and effective workhorse.

In 2012 he had a 3.93 ERA landing him 15th best in the AL. Okay, he is a number 2 starter now for any team in the league and again over 200 innings pitched and the most starts of any AL pitcher.

2012 his salary was $10 million
2013 his salary was $11 million

    That is a freaking bargain.

Two winnable games vs. the team you are going against to win the division result in two losses.  It's not the end of the world, but it's a shame that they have blown an opportunity to take control of the division.

One thing nobody has pointed out when talking about Cespedes and his pedestrian AVG, OBP, and OPS is how he hits with RISP:

    Career:  .297/.364/.869
    2014:  .293/.347/.888

Cespedes comes through when it matters.  He was the main catalyst to the A's offense and has been a huge catalyst on the Red Sox as well, which we got to see first hand when the Angels played them last week.

Don't count out Abreu - he's hitting .305 with 31 HR and 89 RBI. We all know what chicks and BBWAA voters have in common: they both dig the long ball (and ribbies). Let's say he finishes at .300 with 40 HR and 110 RBI. If Trout doesn't turn his shtick around and continues to struggle, ending at something like .275 with 30 HR and 100 RBI then it will to Abreu or Felix.

By the way, Trout just dropped to #2 in the AL in fWAR - he's now behind Alex Gordon. His fWAR has dropped about 0.5 in the last couple weeks. Talk about a tailspin.

I don't think the A's care if Lester winds up back with Boston next season. People are saying that as if that would somehow make their trade not as good. If he ends up back with Boston then he isn't on the Halos or with Texas. I'd imagine Oakland would prefer that. I am constantly seeing this nonsense that people think that trading for a player about to be a FA and getting him in the system would somehow make him more likely to sign with their club. When has that ever worked? That's not a real thing. You'd think if anyone would realize that by now it would be Angels fans. There is no doubt that the teams all know it. If you want a player come FA you better offer him the contract that appeals to him the most. Maybe that's the most money. Maybe that's a no-trade clause. Whatever it is it sure as shit isn't memories of the good times they had the last 2 months.

AngelsFanSince86 got a reaction from stormngt in Weaver is not an ace anymore
I don't understand a lot of the Weaver hate on here.  The guy signed a team friendly contract and despite his decline is still the second best pitcher on our team.  But yes, lets hate on him because he didn't continue to be a sub-3.00 ERA pitcher for the rest of his career.  I do not believe he will ever be the ace of the Angels or any team ever again, but he still continues to be a solid pitcher (albeit mostly at home).

Well that depends on how this year and the next pans out (for Weaver and for our 3 young guys).  Weaver had a 19 game stretch this year where he posted a 2.98 ERA.  Not exactly a small sample size.  The first three games of the season and his last 3 games have made up the rest of his starts.  Meaning he has had some VERY rough patches, but they have been short lived and for the most part has pitched very well.  If he gets back on track like his history suggests, then he should post a sub-3.50 ERA.  If he posts an ERA around 3.50 next year as well then I would say yes, re-sign him.  Just don't place him as our #1 guy.  He will most likely give the Angels a team friendly contract so why not re-sign him? Just because he isn't the same guy he was a few years ago?  The alternative is to overpay for another starter who gives us the same production and costs us a draft pick.  We already need another solid SP.  But even if we obtain a #1 or #2 guy then that leaves us with Richards, Weaver, Wilson, and three guys who haven't shown any kind of consistency to fill the back two spots.  Without Weaver or Wilson (Wilson should DEFINITELY not be re-signed) we just have 3 guys with no consistency.  If we are lucky and all three of our young guys pan out then I guess let Weaver go, but otherwise why not have a vet on the team that has been a life long Angel who is an extreme competitor?

This is a very good point as well.  I think it is important to consider how they have been pitching at the end of the season (hot or slumping?) and then where they will be pitching.  If Weaver has been solid in his last couple starts and the one game playoff is at home then I would definitely go with him because you know the mental game won't get to him.

I've been mostly happy with what Dipoto has done with the team this year. I was happy with the acquisition of Street but worried about the lack of consistent SP. I had hoped there was something I was not seeing that he saw.
"The problem, though, is finding quality starting pitching at this time of year is, Dipoto said, “really hard.”"
“The idea that you can make the perfect acquisition for your rotation in August is not great..."
Yeah Dipoto, that's why you make acquisitions before the deadline...my respect for him that has been building this year just took a hit. The fact he didn't see this need before and is just now trying to address it when it is clearly too late is just ridiculous.
