Kershaw seems like a great guy and in his (non-postseason) prime, he was spectacular to watch on the mound, like he was conducting a symphony. (Up until a couple of years ago, I would have said Altuve as well, but I got sick of the Astros real fast and the events of the last few months have multiplied that.)
However, there will never, ever be another non-Angel whom I love more than I did Tony Gwynn.

He’s not a gimmick at all; he can pitch and hit very well. He only needs to prove that he can stay healthy.

I agree if he never lives up to his potential. But that’s why I said if he becomes an ace for a full season regularly and hits 20-30 home runs. His contract will be insane.

if the angels fielded a player who put up better numbers than albert, then albert would get less at bats. the problem is less about his performance and more about young players not being able to outperform him.
even in that scenario, they're still not going to cut him. he's a leader in the clubhouse and he has some use in certain situations. best case scenario is one of the young 1b get their shit together and albert becomes that classic pinch hit/spot starter clubhouse leader that is so familiar in baseball.
albert's a good dude in many many ways, but he's not the type to skip his farewell tour. he wants that attention.
