  1. No because I use 2 different email addresses - 1 for work/professional and 1 for everything else (fantasy leagues, message boards, etc.) where 99% of the spam that I get ends up. It's the internet so I expect my information to be sold and email to get spammed.
  2. No the NL teams just notified MLB that they're not going to bother with the NL pennant after the Tigers and A's won the coveted trade deadline trophy.
  3. It's tough every year. That's why winning it all is never guaranteed or easily accomplished. Plenty of teams have gotten hot at the right time to carry them through the playoffs.
  4. That's globalization for you. The US continues to look like the prettiest girl at the dance but quite a few other countries are struggling. Add in the Argentina default, Russia/Ukraine issue and the fact that the US has to raise rates at some point and investors have been scared away today. There was a large sell order in place if the dow dropped 300 points which kicked in at one point further driving it down.
  5. I'm guessing you've been itching at the chance for a day like to today to post just such a thread to try and point out that the sky is falling? The US economy grew at a rate of 4% last quarter and unemployment claims dropped but the negative news out of Argentina is taking center stage. Unless you're a day trader or invest based on your emotions none of this should matter as you should be in it for the long haul.
  6. Comic book movies are to a degree supposed to be over the top considering the source material. I think a lot of them have been garbage because they've been overly corny, too over the top even for a comic book movie or toned down too much to get a PG or PG-13 rating. That said there's been quite a few to me that were really good or at least entertaining and not painful to sit through.
  7. "Satanists Use Hobby Lobby Decision to Play Devil's Advocate" http://news.yahoo.com/satanists-hobby-lobby-decision-play-devils-advocate-212212419.html
  8. CIncy is dangling Latos to try and take advantage of the teams that are going after Price. Whoever doesn't get Price may be willing to overpay and Cincy is supposedly asking for quite a bit.
  9. Craig has been horrible this year and when they brought Tavares up his lack of production kind of made him the odd man out. That said I think it's a good add for the BoSox as Fenway and that line up can help a lot of hitters. St. Louis wanted a veteran pitcher and got seabiscuit to help them make a run while Boston got a young club controlled pitcher.
  10. I'll take water over getting beat to death after walking home from a late night of studying. They said this morning on the radio there was an estimated 8-10 million gallons that came out and back in 2012 they finished a 130M renovation of which some is now at least soaked.
  11. The year before the Angels acquired him he had his second best season at the age of 31 and based on OPS+ for his career through that point he was slightly above average but nowhere near worth what he was making as BB pointed out. I remember before he signed that contract fans here (myself included) wanted to see the Angels go after him but once he signed it was massive sigh of relief considering what he got. What's done is done obviously but there's no polishing the turd that was the Vernon Wells trade.
  12. What do you mean by the face of the deal? Vernon Wells was horrible 2 seasons before the Angels acquired him and his contract was arguably the worst in all of baseball given his production or lack there of. He had a decent season at the age of 31 and luckily for Toronto they found someone dumb enough to not only take his contract off their hands but actually send players their way who weren't no name PTBNL minor leaguers in the process.
  13. I think Nate's attitude evens out all the knob slobbering over a concept that most people hadn't even heard about a few years ago.
  14. Last year some people were excited because it gave the Angels more of a shot going into the season and with them playing well it's a bad thing. Can't have it both ways.
  15. I don't quite get the excitement for it either but it seems like a lot of things these days it's getting hyped because of social media and the momentum just kept building over time. One of the lines from the trailer from John C. Reilly where he says the guardians are our only hope is so bad mostly due to his delivery that I can't help but laugh. I like sci-fi/comic/fantasy movies so I'll see it at some point but I'll wait until the interest dies down and see it in an almost empty theater or wait for the DVD.
  16. I don't know if I'd call holding up an empty miniature bottle of vodka and pointing to it ordering in 7 different languages but to each his own. For me I haven't really had too many problems with jetlag because I can't really sleep on planes so by the time I finally get to my hotel I take a nap if it's during the day or pass out of it's at night.
  17. Aside from one very good season Headley has been average to below average the rest of his career. After the monster season he had in 2012 you would think playing for a contract the last 2 years he would have stepped up but that hasn't been the case. Seems like 2012 was an aberration and he blew it by not taking the offer San Diego made him.
  18. At the beginning of the season my hope was that Santiago & Skaggs could simply fill the 4th and 5th spots in the rotation because they had to and we had little or no depth beyond them. Shoemaker has just provided much needed depth and been a pleasant surprise. As far as Skaggs goes he's 23 years old, has pitched less than 200 innings in the majors and has some good stuff. He started off very well but over time hitters adjusted and he needs to adjust and get used to the workload of a major league season. If he's pitching below league average in his arbitration years that's one thing but that isn't the case right now.
  19. I enjoy The Hobbit and I enjoyed LOTR but I'm not a Tolkien fan boy or someone who read the books before. I definitely think An Unexpected Journey was better than TDoS which seemed dragged out. That said I watch these movies because I'm a sci-if/fantasy nerd and like seeing them come to the big screen. That alone is worth the price of admission and the blu-ray to me.
  20. jOBS - didn't have any expectations after coming across it on netflix. Felt like a made for TV movie and I couldn't buy off on Kelso as Steve Jobs. Pirates of Silicon Valley was much better although it didn't cover Apple's re-emergence but neither did jOBS. Desolation of Smaug is setting up the third and final movie which will be much more action packed.
  21. Jake Peavy sucks. As far as Street goes I read he has a club option for next year so it's not necessarily a 2 month rental.
  22. Why so he could propel them to a few more wins at the end of the season and the #6 pick next year which they then lose? D'Antoni was a terrible hire from the onset.
  23. I don't think it's a matter of people wanting the government to do it for them I think it's a matter of wanting it done right. If the government wants to allow it so that private entities can legally do it that's fine by me but in the mean time while it's illegal you face the back alley abortion scenario where it's not done right.
  24. Except if someone wants to off themselves it's not as easy as just getting the necessary assistance to do it. If someone else tries to help you I'm pretty sure they can get in trouble or at least that the authorities don't look too kindly on it. The government wouldn't be involved in the actual decision of death it would be up to the person who doesn't want to suffer. I think it's ridiculous we pump people full of garbage that destroys their body just to keep them alive while they continue to suffer.
  25. I like Pau but I don't agree since he just turned 34. Now if you're saying they should have offered him a 1 year deal worth 7-10 that's fine but really you're buying a couple more wins for a non-playoff team. Pau is better off going elsewhere because he can take the MLE from a playoff team and has had interest from OKC along with other very good teams.
