I am all for replacing Mike, but it's not happening. Would have liked to see what a fresh attitude in the dugout could do with this team.

    Well let's see.....

in 1990 Jack Clark was 34 years old and had a .974 OPS. So we should expect nothing less than that from Albert Pujols right?
I mean we're talking about Jack Freakin' Clark!

Could see Lynn, maybe Salas, Freeman and Jackson for Aybar and Bourjos.  Gives Angels pitching and a spare SS plus salary relief from Aybar.  Gives the Cards something better than Kozma and Jay

Homebrewer reacted to HaloMilliVanilli in Kendrick trade options
In my view, I would trade Kendrick AND Aybar if it returned to us high-end pitching prospects.  I would be fine having Eric Stamets come up to man short, even if it is arguably a year too early.  He seems the type of player that would give no worse defense than Aybar or Romine (potentially better), and has a sound hitting approach combined with solid plate discipline AND speed.  Hit him 9th, don't expect too much, and everything he gives us is gravy.  I think we'd be pleasantly surprised.

As for second, similar scenario.  Have Lindsey and Green fight it out in the spring for the starting spot.  Another option is to have Green man third and sign someone like Kelly Johnson for a season.  I would rather have some young infielders cutting their teeth while acquiring high-end potential pitching than keep the veterans and continue signing or trading for middling-level (or worse) prospects and free agents.

In this scenario offensively, you might still see a lineup like RF Calhoun, CF Trout, 1B Pujols, LF Hamilton, DH Trumbo, C Conger, 2B Lindsey/Johnson, 3B Green/Jimenez, SS Stamets.  Still a productive lineup.

    You're assuming a direct correlation.

Of course if they were even around .500 at the end of April, the ending would have been anything but a foregone conclusion by mid-May. There might have been moves that could have been made around the trade deadline (and even after) if they were closer to contending at the time.

It's NOT an apples-to-apples comparison between getting off to a good start and ending up where they did, and getting off to a better start and still falling short. Being in contention for most of the season opens up options for staying in contention, Being out of it for 75% of the season ensures that the only option is for the same group of stiffs to just play better.

Personally, I would like to see Kendrick and Aybar traded. They were the "core" of this team the last few years, and both are lousy situational hitters. They have been on cruise control since they were extended. Yeah..they are relatively cheap and under club control, but there is a reason they are "relatively" cheap..neither of them are all that talented. They are rally killers and frankly, I don't see either of them as being very bright. The team offensive numbers were OK this season...but the dynamics were gawdawful.
The team lacks electricity and the "scrappiness" factor, and these two are the leaders for the "going through the motions" that Torii talked about when he called this team out last season.
Anyhow, that is where I would start the process of building a different dynamic, and possibly adding some pitching in the process.

The thing is he was sitting at a table with his GM, who looked uncomfortable to put it mildly.

I'm over Napoli, really, but what I'm not over is what Napoli reminds me of: How poorly this organization has been run over the last 4-5 years, petty much since Stoneman left (and even his swansong, i.e. Gary Matthews Jr, was pretty atrocious).

The Angels are a badly run organization. I was excited about Dipoto because I thought he had enough brains to turn things around, but so far the results are not encouraging. I guess we can still hope that with less meddling from Arte, and some lessons learned from Jerry, that we'll see positive developments in the next year. But year after year of bad decisions have left the Angels where they are now: a mediocre franchise, when just five years ago they were one of the premier franchises in baseball, or at least in the 2nd tier below the Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, Cardinals, Braves, etc.

Clearly that time of the month, you should go take your midol pronto. It's funny to think back on all those arguments you made about Mathis playing over Napoli and seeing how stupid you all look now.
It was really sad how you "turned your back" on Napoli when he was a pretty good player for us, you just had to find a reason to complain about him. Sorry just channeling my inner whiny mtangelsfan for a second there.

Homebrewer reacted to Brian Ilten in Angels hire Don Baylor as new hitting coach
Absolutely disagree.  Baylor will not be a "yes man" to Scioscia... its not in his personality.  Hopefully they are good enough friends that Scioscia will stop, listen, and take it in.  The thing Sciosica has lacked since the departure of Maddon, Black, and Roenicke, is someone that can get in his grill and challenge him.  Without that type of coach helping him, Scioscia is nothing more than a mediocre manager.  And the record proves it.

The best we can hope for is that Baylor will get in Mike's face with a "WTF?".. the first time he asks a guy to bunt in the second inning.
