No but how could a new manager hurt at this point...you have to approach this like the Warriors did with firing Marc Jackson...championship or bust.  Clearly Jackson wasn't leading them there and he's a grade A asshole, so get someone new.  Scioscia's Angels haven't been managed like Scioscia's traditional teams in years and haven't been to the playoffs in even longer.  So what's the point in keeping him around.  Who cares if a new manager sucks worse? What's worse than 3rd place...4th? BFD

In this case, your question is "why is Ibañez still playing?" So we ask Scioscia and Dipoto the question. They give their answer and we report it. If you don't like the answer, take it up with them, not us.
A columnist's job is different. He has the freedom to write "the angels are wrong and Ibañez shouldn't play."
If you want to see that written, take it up with Jeff Miller or TJ Simers or Bill Plaschke.
Or, you could just have your own opinion without worrying if anyone in the media expresses it for you.

There's no way Dipoto is telling him to bat Ibanez 4th. 
Scioscia's history has always been to play the vets until they are released. 

Scioscia and Dipoto are the only two people who see Ibanez as an effective option at DH moving forward. It's scary to think about. Those are the two guys in charge of the club...
 
I like Dipoto's overall philosophy but there are some clear red flags surrounding him. It's nothing knew with Scioscia though. We've known about his infatuation for veterans for years. Finley, Hillenbrand, Abreu, Alfonzo, GMJR, Jeff Weaver, and Mathis all bring back painful memories. Ibanez is no different. Jeff Weaver kept Jered Weaver (who was dominant as a rookie) in AAA for no reason at all. Ibanez will likely do the same for Green/Cron at some point. And there's one common denominator in all this veteran favoritism - Scioscia

He was coming off elbow surgery in the offseason and had TJ earlier in his career.  What else would be the GM's job other than to determine how injury prone a player may be who was coming off elbow surgery.  He gambled that offseason on two injured relief pitchers and lost horribly.
