I get the point but 7-3 would likely be winning the next three series.  Seattle has three against the White Sox and two against the Giants before seeing us- 4-4?  A chance for 3.5 swing.  A’s have the Giants, Rangers and Rockies- 5-5?  Two game swing.  That may be enough to make a difference in Eppler’s thinking.
Even if all that happens we may still see a non-optionable reliever traded, while picking up a piece on the infield.  A big factor will be Otani’s status.

Angels have been good to Mikey all the way.  I can see Eppler going balls out in 2020 regardless of an extension just because.

To me Otanhi’s status is important in what happens pitching-wise.  Regardless, I think Eppler values the ability to option players so we will see one non-optionable reliever traded to open things up a bit.
I think he’ll be aiming to get a prospect he really likes for Kinsler, not a highly touted one necessarily given the value of Kinsler but one he thinks is somewhat overlooked, and will make that trade at any point.  I could see Valbuena held to the end of August as suggested above but hopefully with more time on the bench.

I thought he did a solid job interviewing from center field, Joe Buck was on to it with the question about Trout moving around while answering.

Maybe he has Attention Deficit Disorder and needs medication.  Something that should be checked out, I have a nephew that really benefits in that way.  It’s like night and day.

"Mr. Haney, are you telling me this rooster can pitch? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!"
"Mr. Douglas, I can guarantee you this here creature can chuck a baseball with pinpoint accuracy and do better than any of those pretenders in the Angels bullpen. Guaranteed or your money back!"
"Well, what have I got to lose? I suppose he couldn't do any worse."

Kole has hit two balls hard to the left side.  He hit that one to the only dude on that side of the field.

What a difference 15 months make.  Thanks Eppler!
Im feeling so optimistic about both the major league team and the farm I can’t help getting excited.  Surely Trout will want to stay.

DJ LeMahieu is a free agent after this year and he doesn't think the Rox will extend him.

Even more telling, though, were comments by second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who was candid in expressing his doubt that his camp and the Rockies will even hold talks. “No, there have been no talks and I don’t think there will be,” said LeMahieu. The 29-year-old LeMahieu, a two-time Gold Glove winner and All-Star, is set to hit the open market at season’s end.

Believe it or not I was at a game when Jose Cardenal hit a home run.  I was with my Dad and one of my sisters, and when she announced that Jose would hit a home run my Dad and I shared a chuckle.  Then Cardenal hit one right down the left field line and since the LF was playing so shallow he couldn’t quite get there.
Thanks for brining that memory up!

Do things have to go perfect, not not really at all.  Its very realistic if everyone just plays go what they are capable of.
If everything goes as most expect it seems clear that the last playoff spot this year will probably come down to us, the Twins, or the Blue Jays.
How the Jays are supposed to win near 90 in that division while NY/Bos win 90 plus is a bit perplexing but thats what fangraphs suggests they may do though i personally dont get the love there.
The Twins will be dangerous for us as their division is dogmeat aside from Cle. which is what gives them a leg up, not the fact that they are "better" than us, they play more games against weaker teams.
I dont think anyone here realistically thinks were beating Hou this year.  Its possible sure, but i wouldnt put money on it.  So were realistically playing for a WC berth, and that should be an attainable goal

I think we'll actually see a fairly quiet 12, maybe even 18 months.

For the most part, no one of significant consequence will hit FA that doesn't already have a feasible in-house replacement:
Maldonado = Ward is a stretch, but Maldy also seems among the likeliest to re-sign. Kinsler replaced by Cozart, Cowart, Fletcher, Fernandez, Walsh or a LeMahieu-type FA is reasonable, as is Valbuena being replaced by one of those names. Richards, should he walk, is likelier simply replaced by the SP depth in-house. The relative glut of MLB-ready SP depth could lead to a guy or two being moved in a deal, or perhaps to the pen, which seems like the obvious area that will see a variety of moves in coming months.
Eppler did such a fantastic job of holding onto prospects this winter that at this point, I think he's likely to keep as many as possible. At the rate they're succeeding, expanding, and developing, we'll have a legit wave of talent landing in 2-3 years, when most of our current MLB team starts hitting FA.With the current MLB team under contract for next 2-3 years, no sense eating into that crop now - start of this offseason would have been the only time that made real sense, and it didn't happen. At most, I could see one major deal consummated involving a couple prospects, likely for a true impact player.

Eppler really built two teams this offseason; 2018 as a contender, and 2020/2021 as a dynamic, young team with potential stars, and the financial flexibility to fill needs at that time.

I guess this is goodbye to Carlos Perez, his last game as an Angel for now at least.  He did everything he could in AAA last year and would have made fine backup catcher.  I think he was pretty much bent over a table by the Angels as a catcher and that was handled by Scioscia, just didn’t measure up for Mike.  Deja vu anyone?
