IIIII got a reaction from angelsnationtalk in OC Register: Shohei Ohtani to join Angels in Detroit on Tuesday
I'd like Goodwin to replace Calhoun if things stay the same by the time Upton gets back but I doubt that happens.

A month is a long time. Why don’t you wait and see how you feel about both players then.

IIIII got a reaction from nando714 in Gameday Thread: Blue Jays @ Angels 5/1/2019 (La Stella leading off, Kole 6th)
This team if the definition of a roller coaster ride and we're all on it. Let's keep the good part rolling!

IIIII got a reaction from Lou in Gameday Thread: Angels vs. Blue Jays (Griffin Canning's debut vs. Vlad Jr) 4/30/19
So pumped never had a player relate so much to me! He's from the same place as me, went to ucla at the same time as him and now he's on the Angels. Let's go!!!

I opened the thread expecting a link to an intelligent Fangraphs article but then I read who posted it and said "Oh".

IIIII got a reaction from Angel Oracle in When Ohtani arrives...
Better obviously but don't necessarily expect him to come back and play like last year. He didn't have a proper offseason to prepare and sophomore slumps are legitimate. Even so if he is anything like last year he is obviously a massive replacement over Bour.

If only Vlad Jr was being promoted to the Angels.
F'n Dipoto.

IIIII got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Gameday Thread: Angels vs. Yankees (April 24, 2019) - Cam Bedrosian is the "Opener"
The DL excuse is so outdated at this point. Heck the Angels are about to get swept by a team missing everyone on their roster. This is on everyone from management to the players. Trout has been pretty bad the last few weeks as well.

IIIII got a reaction from Taylor in Shohei Ohtani wants to play

So 4 at-bats over what 10 days means he can come back by the end of the first week of May if we're lucky? -
IIIII got a reaction from Angel Oracle in The Mariners seem pretty good
I doubt they'll be anything like this come season end. A few of their players are playing significantly better than they have over the course of 5+ year careers thus far. Hopefully they cool down a bit by next week or it'll be a tough 4 game series.

IIIII got a reaction from Tank in 04/10 Angels vs Brewers GDT Taylor Ward batting 6th
I can’t believe this turnaround and against the Brewers no less. Wtf. So excited!

Reggie Willits his rookie year. I got a shirt/jersey thinking he'd be around for a long time. LOL

IIIII got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Gameday Thread: Brewers @ Angels (4/9/2019, Cozart Back @ 3rd)
Interesting observation from JP Hoornstra on Twitter
"Observation: The Angels began the day with a lower swing rate than any major league team. They've walked six times tonight, including one intentional walk and another with the bases loaded. It's a flawed lineup, but they have a strategy and they're sticking to it."

Let's hope it's not like Lebron James or Jordy Nelson. Glad to see the team hitting well!

IIIII reacted to Pancake Bear in 2019 Bullpen
Any team missing their #2-3 best hitters are going to have holes in their offense. Some teams will be better able to absorb it, but look at Houston last year with their best guys going down. They have solid depth and they still struggled.

IIIII reacted to Angelsfan1984 in 2019 Bullpen
If people aren't playing well they are garbage, if they are playing well they are GOAT's....pretty simple logic Jeff. FANatic's is the name of the game.

IIIII got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Trevor Cahill has looked great
He's been very solid for the team. Hoping that the whole first half star thing about him continues across a whole season!

IIIII reacted to Second Base in Who has the best bullpen in MLB?
With Eppler, as with all GM's, you can begin to gauge what he is and isn't that great at.
- GREAT at unearthing valuable relievers that other teams jettison. The list becomes more extensive every year.
- GREAT at scouting and evaluating prospects. Seriously, it seems like every prospect he trades away ends up sucking, and every one that he bring sin, ends up getting much better.
- GREAT at drafting. Going on a few years in a row now, the Angels have had one, if not the best drafts among all teams in Major League Baseball.
- GREAT at communicating. The players love him. The dugout loves him. He's largely responsible for Trout and Ohtani being here long term.
- SUCKS at signing free agent position players. Valbuena, Cozart, Bour (sample size), La Stella (trade), Maybin, Pennington, Gentry, Nava....
So when it comes down to it, I trust Billy Eppler with just about everything when it comes to being a GM. Except signing free agent position players. He hasn't been as bad as his predecessor as fas as the stupid big contracts go, but he's had a lot of targets that fans thought would be a great fit, and has gone in a different direction only to see them flounder. And typically this wouldn't be a big deal at all if it weren't for the simple fact that the Angels had no farm system for a few years and needed to be successful in the free agent market in order to be competitive, which they haven't been.
But when it comes to bullpen, I don't care who Eppler brings in, because whoever it s, I just now they're gong to be good.
