Thank goodness you were at the game and could get a first-hand look at Albert. Otherwise, we would have never known he looks old and slow on the field.

They need to think out of the box to prevent these arm injuries.
How about they start showing some of their pitchers how to throw like this guy.

Just what an incredibly terrible and tragic situation. My heart really goes out to Jessica and her family, praying for them a peace that goes beyond understanding because I doubt that understanding exists right now. I cannot imagine the pain and confusion that the Cox family is enduring. Very, very sad. Mike rightfully needs to be with his wife as long as possible while dealing with his own pain of losing a friend. I'm sure Trout will be back at some point in 2018 but that is so secondary to everything it's hardly perceptible.

Ward will be up in September and should see plenty of playing time. For now, Fernandez should get the bulk of playing time at third. Cowart has had plenty of time to show what he has and he just doesn’t hit enough to stay. Next season Cozart will plug into either second, third or utility infielder. Fletcher will at least be an utility man. There is no room for Cowart.

There will be a lot of competition to sign Machado. It will take an enormous amount of money to get into the bidding. I doubt that Arte will go there with the spectre of Trout’s extension needs. I think Machado, at age 26 would be a great addition and give Trout the protection in the lineup that he needs. I just don’t see Arte doing it unless Pujols retires and negotiates a buyout.

I am sure the report from Rosenthal is accurate and that Scoscia will step down.  The guess is that Scoscia doesn't want the last two months to be about him and his final days as a manager.  I think he wants the focus to be on the field and the performance of his team.
Once the season is over, he will step down, the FO will throw him a big party, and all of his managerial achievements will be celebrated, especially 2002.

I think that because of his on field managing style.  He can't let the players win or lose a game on their own.  There has to be some sort of Scioscia "stamp" on every game with some stupid hit and run, stolen base, defensive switch, bullpen disaster, etc, etc.

My guess of how this unfolded is pretty much that the FO decided it was ultimately not going to bring Scoscia back.  They probably informed him of this decision, but instead of going the "we decided not to renew his contract" route, they probably gave him the option of announcing he is going to step down instead.  While it's basically just semantics, it does make it sound like it is his decision vs the FO forcing him out.  For a proud man like Scoscia, who has also served the team for 19 years, this was probably the preferred route.  And, in truth, this is also probably the classier route, too.  Like him or not, he is certainly the greatest manager in our team's history, and he did give his all to this organization.
It was definitely time to move on, and this is probably the best, classiest way for all parties to move forward.  Glad it worked out this way.

Well, it was multifaceted, I just focused on the draft because that is usually where you build your farm.  There was a lot of risk taking that didn't pay off: we signed Pujols, Wilson and Hamilton and that didn't pay off with multiple playoff appearances leaving us with a fat bill and shallow returns...trades that were made didn't return value...we exited the international market and, when we re-entered, we blew our nut on Baldoquin, while taking us out of the market for a bit.
    It was a 6 season collective shit-storm

Theres always going to be mysteries surrounding it all. Nobody on the inside ever really came clean about what happened. Who was in charge, who wanted hamilton, etc etc etc.
I do know that sosh and dipoto hated each other. Prior to the blowup, they werent talking for a long time. A lot of tension. The blowup was over a lineup.
At the time, it was easy to blame sosh. It looked identical to the moneyball movie. But as time passed, with a step back and look at the big picture....lol....one only has to look at @mulwin444's breakdown to see what really killed the team...and it wasnt sosh's lineups.
Sosh may lose games by not starting this guy, batting this guy out of order, etc. Dipoto killed a generation.
Its like blaming the general for losing a battle, when it was the president sending him off to war without the resources to win.

You see the Astros presser???   Luhnow was asked about the domestic abuse issues hanging over Osuna's head...   Dude actually looked dead at the person asking the question and said "the Astros zero tolerance policy only applies to players currently on the Astros".   Lol...  He followed it up with the usual pap about believing in second chances, but by then I was laughing too hard to follow along.

I like this philosophy. Players need to be challenged. Playing against inferior talent does nothing but stroke their ego. So far Adell has passed every test so by the end of 2019 he should be ready for a call up in September.

Even if the Angels wentvall in on a guy like Thor or DeGrom the Angels could not match packages like The Padres, Dodgers, Braves, Phillies and Yankees put together. The Angels are too many players away to give up 3-5 top prospects for a starting pitcher.

Id love to add him, or anyone like him.
But adell sounds like the real deal. And a centerpiece. Perhaps a trout replacement if the time comes.
Position player wise, since the 2010s started, we have basically trout, trumbo, calhoun, conger, cron and bourjos(?) As the only starting position players weve brought up? Thats pretty pathetic.
Like tdawg said, id rather fix the pen and target a FA pitcher. Maybe adell flames out, but at some point we will have to fill our holes (holler) with in house, good players. Not stop gap old dudes.

I would not trade Adell for any pitcher.  Don’t care who it is.
I’ve just gotten to that point with pitchers.  The risk for long term injury seems so probable that it just doesn’t make sense to trade an every day player.  Particularly one of Adells caliber.  And Snydergaard is a flame thrower.  Just red flags all over.  And I love the guy.  But like I said, not trading Adell for any pitcher.
