  1. Losing this game would likely be the death of the A's. I'd like to see that happen as soon as possible.
  2. Lots of arms in the pen. If guys like Besrosian and Pestano can step up, we may in fact run away with things the next ten days.
  3. I am not as old as some of you, but I swear I recall going to a Dunkin Donuts on Warner and Harbor when I was a kid, maybe 25 years ago. And I thought they had to go out of business because they sucked. So what has changed in 25 years?
  4. Pujols has had more big hits the last three months than the previous two years combined. He has been huge to the team, despite his less than amazing OPS.
  5. Yep. I am very concerned about the A's. No knock on the Angels, but our rotation is a house of cards, propped up only by smoke and mirrors. And our offense has been struggling mightily. Meanwhile, the A's have an amazing rotation, and 10 of their last 13 games are against horrible teams. Lots of baseball still to be played, but this feels like the slimmest 5.5 game lead a team can possibly have.
  6. Agreed. Lots of a'th players will be getting traded this offseason.
  7. Ron Washington's resignation alone should speed up the overall MLB game average by three or four minutes.
  8. Yep, gotta believe they will look at that as being an option, especially with the lack of starting depth.
  9. Way too soon. If our lead is 6+ games by the end of next week, perhaps we can discuss.
  10. It would take a huge drop off and move down in the batting order to cause him to think of walking away. That being said, if he is slashing .240/.290/.400/.690 in three or four years, perhaps his pride will cause him to walk away. It would really be nice if he just improved his strike zone command to pre-2012 levels so that we wouldn't even want to be talking about him retiring.
  11. I can't understand how despite ten years of U.S. training and hundreds of billions in oil revenue for funding, the Iraqi military is so inept that it can't deal with a militia. Sure bodes well for the future of their country.
  12. Jeff, have the Angels ever called up more than a few guys in September? You really think they might call up 6 or 7 guys?
  13. The bullpen is simply amazing. Salas, Jeppy, Smith, Street, Morin, and Rasmus are all having the best seasons of their careers. I haven't done the math, but I assume the combined ERA of those guys (plus Grilli) us somewhere in the low 2.00s. It is one thing to have a couple guys in your pen with low 2.00 ERAs, but quite another when it's all seven guys.
  14. I am watching the game from about 30 feet from the t.v., but it looks like Kaz is getting absolutely squeezed.
  15. I think we gave up a ton of talent for him, so by that definition, we overpaid. But seeing what the Tigers gave up for Soria, it makes me think we paid market for Street. And seeing as how important Street had been to us, and how Gott could be every bit as good as Alvarez, I no longer think the trade was lopsided.
  16. Yeah, I was thinking about Campana too, but that just seems like a lot of extra guys on the bench. But I agree, he probably gets the call.
  17. I am guessing Navarro, Cron and Grant Green. As for pitchers, Bedrosian, Thatcher, and Pestano. Maybe Roth and Herrera stick around. But I can't remember any season in which the team expanded rosters by more than just a few guys. Although I think all of the guys named above could help out, I would be shocked if all were called up. Thoughts?
  18. This is the best the team has played all year. They just beat three outstanding starting pitchers, with nothing from Calhoun or Trout. This is fun to watch.
  19. You mean Roth? Gotta wonder if the team is thinking about converting Rasmus to a starter?
  20. Great work Sean. If you haven't done so already, you should take a drive up the 395 and photograph Johansburg(sp??) and some of the town's in the Owens Valley.
