I was at Fort Benning waiting on my Ranger school to start when i was woken up by my room mate.  My first thought was why is Peter Jennings on ESPN? I had fallen asleep watching ESPN apparently.  Then it went into anger, and sadness.  The sad part is, i am EOD and i know lots about explosions.  Knowing it was planes and fuel, Fire + liquid against steel is not a good combo, i had a horrible feeling that those towers would collapse.  Then we heard about the pentagon, a building I have visited multiple times and knew some that worked there, I couldn't help but wonder if they were ok.  We had been called for muster so we immediately got dressed and assembled.  Within 30 mins i was on a plane back to Grafenwoehr Germany to rejoin my unit.  We spent almost the whole flight glued to com's getting every bit of information we could, no one slept, the adrenaline was high and every one was pumped we wanted pay back.

Last week Dave did chemo which wiped him out and today on opening day he's spending it in the hospital getting radiation treatment.

GalericX reacted to failos in Perry Minasian: "We are prepared to go into Spring Training with what we currently have"
Perry Minasian just shot himself in the foot. I don't know how much the rest of you know about Angels baseball culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in Atlanta where you can become successful by being an a******. If you screw a fanbase over in Anaheim by not making a big offseason splash, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance. What this means is the Angels fanbase, after hearing about this, is not going to want to support the Angels, nor will they watch any games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Perry Minasian has alienated an entire market with this move. Perry Minasian, publicly apologize and resign or you can kiss @floplag and @RendZone goodbye.

    Wow, that's amazing..
Only 7 years after taking over a team that had a 27 year old King Felix, Hasashi Iwakuma, James Paxton, Taijuan Walker, Mike Zunino, Justin Smoak, Robinson Cano, Michael Saunders, Kyle Saeger, Kendrys Morales, and the guys people at Baseball America assured us were going to be stars when they ranked them the 6th best system in MLB; Dustin Ackley, Danny Hultzen, Edwin Diaz, Ketel Marte, Chris Taylor, DJ Petersen, Brad Miller, Nick Franklin and Jesus Montero, then trading or signing Fernando Rodney, Nelson Cruz, Mark Trumbo, Seth Smith, Logan Morrison, Austin Jackson, Wellington Castillo, Adam Lind .........................  BREATHE......................Nori Aoki, Leonys Martin, Wade Miley, Nate Karns, Steve Cishek, Mike Montgomery, Drew Storen, Jean Segura, Ryan Healey, Dee Gordon, Denard Span, Mitch Haniger, Mike Leake, Marco Gonzales, and about 30 other guys, then (after getting himself an extension), trading everything he had acquired or built up because it was time to "re-imagine" the roster and going about tanking he's got them to where they are projected to win 69-73 games depending on what projection system you want to give credence to.  Simply masterful!!!!

I didn't know Arte scouted Baldoquin and immediately knew he would be an impact player.  Nor did I know that Arte chose to pass on drafting Guerrero Jr.  Nor did I know that Arte used a #1 pick to pick Taylor Ward because of his amazing catching ability.  Nor did I know that Arte arranged for all of the Tommy John surgeries.
    Thanks.  I feel more informed.

GalericX reacted to Pancake Bear in Curt Schilling: I will not participate in the final year of voting. I am requesting to be removed from the ballot.
Don't get me wrong, I think Schilling had an unquestioned HOF worthy baseball career. No question. I actually got blocked on Twitter a few years ago by Elliott Teaford (Ducks beat guy who used to write for baseball) when he said Schilling's career was not Hall worthy and I posted some stats and asked what wasn't Hall worthy. No profanity, no excessive tweets. Just pushed back slightly with some stats and he just blocked me. Lol.
What I was referring to was not his politics (I agree with some of them), but more how he expresses himself. Like wearing a shirt that says "Rope, Tree, Journalist. Some assembly required", or his tacit defense of the capital riots. Fair or not, the reality is his off the field behavior has cost him.
I share some of his concerns about some journalists, but his 'joke' was way out of line. Without getting overly political in a baseball forum, I'll just say I think you can have legitimate concerns over the consistency of response on the riots this year and still acknowledge that the capitol riot was probably the worst thing conservatives could have participated in and should be condemned by everyone (ditto the violence and riots by others throughout the year). The problem is he didn't stop with criticizing the hypocrisy - which, IMO, is totally fair game - he suggested that the capitol riot was legitimate and had better reason than the others. That isn't just a disagreement, it's a defense of sedition and anarchy. Not okay.
