AngelsAndRamsFan reacted to kevinb in So umm.. thoughts on Jerry Dipoto
I thought he was going to be a good change at GM but he has missed the boat on a lot of deals. I don't know why people blame Arte for signing Pujols, CJ and Hamilton, and giving no blame to Dipoto. But maybe Dipoto wanted Pujols and Hamilton so bad he told Arte to get after it as well and sell the team to them. Dipoto hasn't been very good here and most of his decisions have not worked out. I kind of hope for a rehaul of the organization this off season. With Dipoto and Mike being let go and letting a whole new cast of characters run this team. But hey that's just me.

Sorry, but one of the main responsibilities of a good GM is to manage your boss.  Dipoto has been very poor at that.

Plus, he did sign some poor starting pitchers and relievers.  Thats on him.

Trumbo is not a proven MOTO bat.
wRC+ of 122 last year (career high), 113 this year and a career OBP of .304.
I think he is ridiculously overrated by Angels fans.

I like Trumbo but honestly, they probably should look at dealing him. He's a one dimensional player. Won't hit for average, won't get on base at a good clip, can't play D. He's already 27 years old so he's in his prime and what you see is what you get most likely. Team needs some pitching badly. Would be wise to shop him for an arm

Easier said than done but that would be ideal IMO.

The guy that tweeted it (the Angels media relations intern) posted it before yesterday's game. I just edited it to reflect the triple he got yesterday.

Mike Scioscia isn't a fan of Angel players in the HR Derby.  â€œIt’s an individual decision, but I’m not a fan of it,” Manager Mike Scioscia said of the derby. “It’s grueling for the participants. The number of full-gorilla swings you take … it’s like being on a driving range and hitting 10 buckets of balls. It’s tough. I haven’t seen somebody come away from that derby and be a better player for it.”

I really don't understand this thread. Orel said many times that the Angels outplayed the Red Sox throughout the course of the broadcast. You have a former Dodger, former Philly and a Canadian play by play guy up there. While ESPN in general has a bias, I certianly didn't hear it in this game, especially as the game went along and went the way it did. There was one Rangers vs Tigers Sunday night game where they hardly talked about the Rangers....I didn't hear that tonight. They called out Shuck and Trumbo on crappy defense, they gushed over Trout, talked about Albert's injuries and how he should be DLed, they were even praising Hamilton. They said Howie Kendrick should be an all star.

Somebody mentioned they they showed Pedroia's hot zone...they showed Hamilton's as well. That was when he had a called 3r dstrike despite it being out of the zone....did you complainers even watch the whole broadcast?

I think the difference is I think Victor and Mark are TOTAL ANGEL HOMERS, and if you interpret what they do as 'normal' for a broadcast, I can see why a national broadcast would be frustrating to you.

Pujols is 5 for his last 45 for a cool .111/.216/.222 line.  Those numbers?

It's ridiculous to compare him to Trumbo because there are different expectations here.  Trumbo makes league minimum and, generally speaking, has given more than was ever expected of him a couple years ago.  And when he struggles, Scioscia can move him down in the order, as he's done the last couple games, without fear of shattering a superstar ego.

Pujols is (was?) one of the greatest RH hitters to ever play the game, and was given a ginormous contract to come here and do the same for us.  Not to mention he apparently will never be moved from the 3 hole, even if he rolls up to the batters' box in a wheelchair.  And he contributes nothing defensively because he spends most of his time at DH these days.

I think it's pretty understandable that people are going to get a bit more upset at Pujols.

No it doesn't. A lot of people/athletes fill out around his age. Trout has probably gained 20+ lbs in the past year. That doesn't bring up the PED question for either player.

My second thought was as he mentioned the decline in production he failed to mention that in 2012, excluding April, Albert hit roughly .297, which I would consider very respectable

Good god, AJ are you out of your frigging mind with the trade for Cliff Lee crap. He is exactly the type of player the Angels need to avoid. Soon to be 35, over $75 million left on his contract. The Angels need cost effective pitching not salary cap killers.

There I said it.  I know he was born in Anaheim, I know he hits 450 foot home runs, I know he is home grown.  But let's face it.  .810-.830 OPS 1B/RF pretty much grow on trees these days.  His defense is average.

He's also entering his arb years, $$$ is about to increase.

I say: If you can get 2 or so B+ starting pitcher prospects for him, do it.
