NEW YORK -- Livid over Alex Rodriguez's decision to tweet an update on his rehab process,Yankees general manager Brian Cashman had a message for the third baseman.

"You know what, when the Yankees want to announce something, [we will]," Cashman told ESPN New York. "Alex should just shut the f--- up. That's it. I'm going to call Alex now.

Rodriguez's surgeon was approved to do the surgery but since Alex went home for rehab they are saying only their doctors can approve his rehab assignment. Right now his salary is probably covered by insurance so once he is cleared to play the Yankees pay.

Sounds to me like the Yankees want to shelve Rodriguez indefinitely, waiting for the Bosch investigation to see if MLB bans him for 100 games. If they do, I can see the Yankees working to get themselves out from under his contract completely.

So was Cashman trying to come off like an ass here?

Because this is flawless execution of that.

Yap, no lover of ARod but it's not like he did anything tons of players don't do.

Not exactly leading by example there Mensa Cashman.

Not to mention that there is no way would ARod walk away from a single cent, especially not now :)

I think he wasn't happy that ARod is on track to return from the 60-day disabled list shortly after the mid-July All-Star break.  But the Yankees signed him to that deal gladly so suck it up.

We're going to be experts in that regard soon...

There must be more to the story. This sounds like a total overreaction by Cashman. I know he has a proclivity to sound off... But he should know better than to say this. Guaranteed to be front page of NY Post tomorrow.

Perhaps that is a good thing - distances the organization from Arod.

What did ARod say to trigger this?

Rodriguez tweeted Tuesday that he has been cleared to play in rehab games. Rodriguez's comments seemed to contradict what Cashman told ESPN New York's Wallace Matthews on Monday.

"Visit from Dr. [bryan] Kelly over the weekend, who gave me the best news - the green light to play games again!" Rodriguez tweeted.

The article attached to the OP gives more details.

I think Cashman handled it very poorly.

Isn't there a rule that you cant keep a guy on the Shelf if he's not injured? There is definately a reason for a players union complaint. I think Arod is preparing for the yankees BS. You signed him Cashman.....deal with it.

Maybe the yankees could pay ARod to play 3B for us. Id be ok with that.

This just cements by beliefs in the following:

  1. Cashman hates A-Rod.  Never really wanted to sign him and certainly not to a larger contract when he opted out.  Steinbrenner made it happen.
  2. Yankees dont really want A-Rod back but cant come out and publicly state that.  I believe they are hoping A-Rod gets caught in the mess in Miami and somehow, someway his contract can be voided
  3. A-Rod will not be with the Yankees at the end date of his Yankee contract.  He also wont break the all-time HR record.

A-Rod will not...break the all-time HR record.

Let's hope so.

The guy can make his money, not my problem, but to me it is a plus for the game and a great example of the consequences that come with disobeying the "juice rules" if we never see this guy have an at-bat in a Major League stadium ever again. He is falling apart like a decrepid old man, clearly his earlier decisions are affecting his performance long term.

Hope you had fun A-Rod! Now go shut the f*** up!
