While in general it is fair to say that accusers don't lie about sexual assault, there are a couple of mitigating factors in Bauer's case. 

The first accuser has been proven to be a gold digger. That isn't really in doubt at this point. AFAIK, she was the first one to bring legal action and the others came out of the woodwork later. Does that mean the others are also liars? By his own admission, Bauer enjoyed rough sex and had casual encounters with numerous women. Given Bauer's wealth, there is a lot of incentive to play up accusations especially if you're the type of person who has a lot of sex with no regular partner. They have no relationship with him and no reason for loyalty to him. Also, afaik the only case that was resolved ended with him being effectively exonerated. Until there is something more meaningful, I see nothing to indicate Bauer should be blackballed beyond liking weird sex and being an idiot about who he chooses to sleep with.

Trout will get injured in May and be out for the season. The Angels will still win the World Series.

I like that Plesac didn't regret breaking COVID protocols since shelter in place was stupid and evil to start with. However, his pitching hasn't impressed anyone for a couple years now. 

Someone has to cover starts when there’s injuries.  Before Plesac, assuming our current rotation is Detmers-Sandoval-Canning-Anderson-Silseth, our options for that are…. Kenny Rosenberg, Sam Bachman, and Davis Daniel?  An optionable starter is a need

After 20 years I cant believe that some of us cant see, beleive, or understand that Arte has no desire will or want for a rebuild, He wants his stars and toys and he wants to make money, Telling fans hay we suck and are going to suck for a few years dont sell tickets. He would rather finish middle of the pack then finish last. Until he sells the team to a new person with diffrent ideas and goals just know we are signing what ever shinny new thing he can convince to come. I am just thankful that Perry probably talked him off the Ohtani cliff to understand if we sign this guy you will be under his contract for 20 years 10 of witch he wont be selling tickets anymore. 

Why not just leave the DH position and grab some decent depth options to spell Trout and Rendon, so they can occasionally DH to try to keep them healthy? I don't think the DH "position" needs to have a full-time occupant.

If the Angels are going to spend $200M, it should be on something they could actually use: a starting pitcher.

Have you guys considered that this is just the price going forward on free agents?  Last year they all got paid more than expected.  This year it appears it’s the same. 

Ok. Find a young player that plays 1st and 3rd in free agency that puts up Turner’s numbers that won’t require a 5-8 year deal. Let me know who that is.  

Not to mention the money he brings in in broadcasting rights 
I mentioned somewhere else in here that the Angels made something like $30 a year off Ohtani from that. 
Those thinking "we just saved money from letting him walk" are missing the part we just lost money by letting him walk.

The problem is Moreno can't decide what kind of owner he wants to be and is running the team like a dude with multiple personalities. Is he a big market owner or is yacht fuel his driving passion in life? Because if you're not going to trade him, you need to at least be willing to be in the ballpark of what he got - and we now know it isn't really $700m in terms of value, it's around $450 as far as MLBPA is concerned. That is very doable, especially for a player as uniquely valuable off the field like Shohei.
My assumption is that either (or both) that Ohtani was asking for deferred money to be turned into team ownership shares upon his retirement or that Arte is not planning on owning the team in ten years. He's closer to 80 than 70 and has already run a sell-the-team trial balloon once, so I'd be shocked if he's still running the show in five years. I can't imagine that in a few years the contract will look nearly as valuable, and it may be that, like with the Dodgers, Ohtani wanted an opt out if Moreno sells or Minasian leaves. That also is potentially problematic for Moreno.
The problem is, if he knew he wasn't going to go the distance and do what whatever was necessary, he should have traded him. Basically, it seems like Arte is thinking, "Screw it, I'm not planning on owning the team in three years, so I don't give a shit about prospects - let's take one last run before Ohtani leaves. Sure, it's a long shot, but it's my best shot to win as an owner." 
It still pisses me off, but if Arte doesn't significantly reduce payroll and Minasian makes some smart acquisitions, we aren't necessarily a bad team. In fact we could end up being a surprisingly good one. At least until Trout gets injured again.

We all have to remember how deferred money works and how much that money is expected to be worth in X amount of years.
Because of inflation, which despite its high growth the last couple years, has been about 3% a year.
So ultimately his deal will cost about 450,000,000 in today’s money, is what I’m reading.
And an economist or accountant here can clarify this but as such, Moreno could have put a decent amount into an interest bearing account that would guarantee that it wouldn’t cost more than the 450,000,000, despite future economic changes.
That said, I ultimately think AIDS Magic and the rest of the Dogs group plan is to offer him an ownership stake to buy out the massive rest of the contract when he’s done.  Or not.  Who knows.

Ohtani. Getting someone his age and talent level was like winning the lottery. I was over the moon when he picked us. Pujols was a close second, but I was slightly nervous about the length of the deal. Never expected it to go bad so fast, though. 

The takeaway for me isn't that he wanted to -- it's that nothing had changed and the "unfinished business" guy is still keeping his GMs from being successful.
I was hoping maybe that had changed.

There's no way around what we already know: Arte Moreno is a disaster and as long as he owns the Angels, their chances of becoming a legit franchise are dminished. He's a terrible owner - the worst traits of George Steinbrenner without most of the good stuff. The Mexican version of Peter Angelos.

This is more about the guy we're stuck with (Arte) than the guy who went across town.

Safe to say Bobby is done on the Angels telecasts.  Maybe they can hire this replacement.
