I am surprised that so many Angels fans have been Ok with this deal. 
 
I have come to expect pitchforks and torches anytime they do anything that isn’t signing Gerrit Cole. 

There is no way in hell Cole would tell them he has a West Coast bias.  He wants the highest offer he can get from them.  How else could he get the Angels to beat it?

ANYTHING is an improvement over last season. I don't care about improvement, I care about making the playoffs. If it's Bundy and Teheran rounding out the rotation.... Why would that inspire more confidence that Harvey and Cahill? 

Every time I hear the term "overpay" in relation to prospects we gave up in a trade, I always think back to the Huston Street trade and how we "gave up too much".

I wouldn’t. That’s how we ended up with Harvey and Cahill. Teams don’t contend with cheap pitchers unless they get lucky. Our pitching staff will be worst in the division unless we have an ace.

I'm not sure what you mean by "never been a fan"...a fan of what or whom? If you're saying Donaldson, well he was the second best player in baseball for a few years and is still very good; Rendon is now one of the five or so best players in the game. 
Anyhow, it isn't a bad idea - but Rendon might be as expensive as Cole, so I don't see them signing both (That's $60-70M AAV, plus Trout = over $100M for three players for the next 7+ years).
Donaldson, would make more sense, but he's still probably going to get something like 3/$60M, maybe even 3/$75M or 4/$80M.
But I really do think that the Angels non-1B infield is asolid, maybe even very good. The priority remains signing the two best starters possible, and then re-calibrating based upon who they get. 

Wheeler’s agent is apparently letting teams know he wants  to sign this week. Word is the White Sox are offering the most. Suggests to me he doesn’t really want to go to Chicago but doesn’t like the other offers so far and is trying to get other teams to offer at least comparable money.

If that what it takes. The window starts now. Unless the Angels want another sub .500 season we are going to have to pay some of these high prices for free agent pitchers. Most people don't want to trade any of our prospects so the best alternative is signing young free agent pitchers.

Well that is good let the stupid Yanks pay 300 or more million on Cole. I don’t care how good he is the only one worth that much is Trout.  Also the pitcher only pitches like 25 games or so not worth that kind of money as to someone who plays about 140 to 160 games. Let the Yanks get Cole and get stuck with the big contract when they were crying they didn’t want anymore big contracts but we know they are full of shit.

Either the Angels are keeping interest quiet or they’re out on Wheeler. Which presumably means they can’t do both and they’re all in on Cole. I can’t see a scenario where they think they have a low chance at Cole and don’t go after Wheeler instead.
