  1. Nice Major League reference. Rumor has it that he has been talking hitting with Vernon Wells.
  2. Right now I am running a Linksys Wireless G router on my home network. It has delivered solid performance, but with bandwidth-hungry additions like iPhones and Netflix streaming video, it's time to upgrade. My question is whether I should go to Wireless N or AC. I have read several articles on the topic that have cleared up nothing. I am interested in any experiences any of you have with either or both.
  3. This guy is probably 60 and not getting any. Last time I was in Europe I flew British Airways Commuter between Paris and Cardiff. All-female crew in the control cabin both ways. Apparently much less of a deal in Europe than in North America.
  4. Note to self: Send letter to Shad Khan and tell him not to let Nike anywhere near the Jaguars jerseys. Of course, the two-tone helmet already sucks. I might let them have a shot at that, but no logos that take up the whole side of the helmet, please.
  5. "Thank you for finding our gold. We will be taking that now." For those who said they would have kept quiet - what would you have done with the coins? Sure, they are worth a lot, but only if you sell them.
  6. I don't understand what some people want. One of my Facebook friends called Obama out for being "weak", apparently for the cardinal sin of not sending American troops into Ukraine to show Putin that we have teeth. Glad that he has no say in Washington. As far as Putin goes, he is cutting his own throat politically if he proceeds with something this unpopular with his own people.
  7. One less Sureno in this country is a good thing. They were behind a major riot at one of the correctional facilities where I worked. Fortune was with me that day, as I was on the road with the physician's assistant doing sick call and annual physicals at one of our rural minimum security camps.
  8. If anyone was congratulating Putin, I missed it entirely.
  9. Which may be the end goal anyway. Her attorney has likely told her that if the case goes to trial their chances of winning aren't great, but her parents may be willing to cough up a significant sum of cash just to make this go away and get it out of the media.
  10. Letting him walk was one thing that Angels management got very right.
  11. At Nike, creativity = big, bizarre and ugly
  12. I don't see what the ACA has to do with anything aside from health care coverage. The ACA also doesn't require that parents maintain coverage past age 18, it merely allows it.
  13. Blanton, with $8.5 million left on his contract and an uncertain future with the team, gave up a single to Jed Lowrie, a single to Josh Donaldson and a two-run double to Yoenis Cespedes to start his outing in the fifth. But the 33-year-old right-hander retired seven of the next eight batters he faced, walking one and striking out two to finish on a positive note. I haven't looked at the box score, but isn't the time of Blanton's renaissance about the time when teams pull everyone who played above Class A ball the season before?
  14. I don't care if I never see the 405 again. My wife had a late afternoon appointment at UCLA Medical Center, and we had tickets for the Angels-Twins game that night. Something possessed me to take the 405 to Katella and go east, catching something to eat along the way. We left UCLA at around 4:00 PM. We were late for the game.
  15. As far as America is concerned, I still agree with that statement. Russia is not our biggest threat.
  16. If we are counting on Blanton for anything beyond monitoring the temperature of the beer in the locker room, we might as well concede the season right now.
  17. Had Cano signed with us, I could see him hitting 15 home runs. Anywhere else, 30 plus.
  18. Microsoft seems to get the OS right every other time, so probably. Just got an e-mail solicitation from HP hawking new computers. They are using Windows 7 as a selling point.
  19. I can't speak for local cops, but firefighter pay was quite the scandal here for a while. Firefighters - including many supervisors who were in on the scheme - were trading sick leave for overtime. How it worked: I take three weeks off on sick leave (not necessarily all at once, but it could be). Before I take it I tip you off, so that you can slide in and scoop up the overtime. Then you do the same for me. Pay was well into six figures for most of the people involved. My understanding is that the city's contract with firefighters has since been revised to eliminate this loophole. Story from the Las Vegas Sun, 2010
