  1. If that is the case, odd that no one has claimed responsibility or issued a ransom demand - at least not that we have been told.
  2. First thing I thought of when I heard that the transponders were turned off was a hijacking - although I didn't rule out the possibility of one or both of the flight crew doing something deliberately. If it was a flight crew member, he sure waited a long time to do it. Both had thousands of flight hours with Malaysia
  3. Fits right in with our team concept. Offensive production is overrated.
  4. We also had Bobby Abreu playing the outfield long after he could.
  5. The latest I read is that based upon satellite signals received, the plane was airborne for seven and a half hours after it took off from Kuala Lumpur. The question is where it went.
  6. I have an iPhone 4, believe that I am going to an Android when renewal time comes. Tired of all the proprietary Apple stuff, and things going screwy every time there is an OS update.
  7. Sorry, I thought the cartoons would be better. I thought that the show started out strong, with some outstanding special effects on some of the space footage, then it became bogged down with the Bruno story. Absolutely HATED the use of cartoons, which Sagan would not have done. The original Cosmos would have used actors in period costumes in settings that at least looked authentic. I liked the sequence at the end in which Tyson produced Sagan's datebook from 1974-'75 and showed an appointment with him when he was a young student.
  8. Now she has gone home, but her lawyer says that the case isn't over. She has returned to court requesting that the parents pay for a guardian to be appointed. “Just a few days ago, Rachel Canning indicated she could not go back home with her parents and she required a promise of some financial assistance going forward," attorney Tanya Helfand wrote in her application to the court, highlighting the teen's quick turnaround in deciding to return to her parents' after living at a friend's for several months. “Now, after speaking with her mother yesterday, she said she is waiving her complaint and is receiving no promises or consideration in return.” She noted that if her client decides to dismiss the case, it’s important that she does so “of her own free will” and not because of outside pressures, and added, “A psychologist certified that the parents are abusive. School faculty certified that the parents abuse the child.” Helfand also asked that a gag order be placed on all parties regarding the case. But Family Division Judge Peter Bogaard in Morris County denied the request. I don't know how school faculty or a psychologist "certified" anything about what goes on in the Cannings' home. Given all the maneuvering going on here, it is quite possible that she reported abuse at home to cause problems for her parents because she didn't like them imposing limits on her behavior. She basically wants to do as she pleases, and to be provided money for doing nothing. I believe that most of us would like that kind of a deal.
  9. We rag on Jose for some of the things he says, but by all accounts he is a great guy who cares about the club and cares about the fans. My opinion of him has changed completely after seeing what a lot of you have said about him (when all you know is him on TV, you have a different perspective).
  10. Yes, but do they have Angels logos on the fuel filler doors?
  11. It will be a black circle with the letters YK in the middle, with the word "landfill" arched across the top.
  12. Joe Blanton was seen conversing with several Cleveland pitchers prior to the game exchanging pointers.
  13. Hate to pop your bubble, but the games live on the field are only 720p. They are broadcast in their native format.
  14. Los Angeles Looloos. Maybe some jerseys for throwback day.
  15. One of these times I'm going to make the trip to Arizona and take it all in.
  16. It is especially aggravating when they call it a "convenience fee". I would like to know what exactly is so convenient that it is worth me paying extra to stand in line at Will Call the day of the event.
  17. I'm in the local market for the whole damned west coast, so it makes no sense for me. I'm likely only going to one game this season (which is one more than last season), so they aren't going to get rich from me.
  18. He would probably pitch a perfect game.
  19. Back to the original topic - I wonder how many more times Blanton will have to be lit up before we stop hearing about his "deception" and his "progress", how the ball is coming out of his hand, or any other cliché to try to distract us from the fact that he flat out sucks and has no business wearing a major league uniform. The Angels just need to end this badly failed experiment. Call up some kid from AA. He can't be any worse.
  20. Just saw a teaser for this. There is going to be a remake of the classic Carl Sagan astronomy series from the 1980s, probably my favorite PBS program of all time. Fox is going to run the new series. I'm not sure how much it is going to draw on the old series in terms of visuals or content, and I suppose that there will be some updating, to include discoveries made since the original was filmed. The series will be titled Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. Sagan's widow Ann Druyan, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson (who will fill Sagan's role as presenter) and producer Steven Soter (who was involved in the original series) are behind the project. Druyan and Seth MacFarlane will be executive producers. Like the original, there will be 13 episodes. The first episode airs Sunday at 9:00 PM Eastern/Pacific. Cosmos on TV website
  21. What has happened in this thread is exactly why I usually treat threads like this like live hand grenades. Some people don't care one way or the other, others have very firm beliefs, and people at the opposite ends seem to dig in. I fall in the indifferent category but I understand that some people don't, for reasons of their own. I just leave it at that.
  22. Well, not everything I read is accurate. The Colts certainly seemed to know what they were doing, so I will go with your version.
  23. I don't think so. I checked the 2009 draft, the draft that Mike Trout was part of. Here are the first round draft picks that year. Besides Trout and Steven Strasburg, how many has anyone even heard of? 1 Stephen Strasburg Washington Nationals Right-handed pitcher San Diego State 2 Dustin Ackley Seattle Mariners Outfielder North Carolina 3 Donavan Tate San Diego Padres Outfielder Cartersville High School (GA) 4 Tony Sanchez Pittsburgh Pirates Catcher Boston College 5 Matt Hobgood Baltimore Orioles Right-handed pitcher Norco High School (CA) 6 Zack Wheeler San Francisco Giants Right-handed pitcher East Paulding High School (GA) 7 Mike Minor Atlanta Braves Left-handed pitcher Vanderbilt 8 Mike Leake Cincinnati Reds Right-handed pitcher Arizona State 9 Jacob Turner Detroit Tigers Right-handed pitcher Westminster Christian Academy (MO) 10 Drew Storen Washington Nationals[Compensation 1] Right-handed pitcher Stanford 11 Tyler Matzek Colorado Rockies Left-handed pitcher Capistrano Valley High School (CA) 12 Aaron Crow Kansas City Royals Right-handed pitcher Fort Worth Cats/Missouri 13 Grant Green Oakland Athletics Shortstop Southern California 14 Matt Purke* Texas Rangers Left-handed pitcher Klein High School (TX) 15 Alex White Cleveland Indians Right-handed pitcher North Carolina 16 Bobby Borchering Arizona Diamondbacks Third baseman Bishop Verot High School (FL) 17 A.
