Simmons has been a great addition to this franchise and one of the few bright spots among FAs, he has certainly deserved being resigned, the question is do the Angels owe it to him?  I find his offense is slightly overrated by members on this board, his OPS is quite sub par, I don't value him much higher than 8-10MM/y as defensive can only do so much for you.  And we haven't exactly been winners with his around, however a lot of situations are out of his control and he seems to be a fan of this team as a player.  I really like the guy and hope to see him back next year at a discount.

Right.  So for me, the key think is to go all-out and try to sign Bauer.  Signing Bauer will create a cascade effect on our rotation, and our backend of the rotation will then become Canning and Barria, which should be significantly better than what we're seeing now.
Sandoval and Suarez can serve as depth in AAA, as they work on their mechanics and try to generate better results.

San Diego and LA probably have the highest likelihood to sign him. They’re ready to strike now to win a championship. The Angels are still many many pieces away unfortunately.

“I want to win. I want to be with a team that has a winning culture. I want to be there in the playoffs. I want a chance at a World Series. That’s one thing that really drives me. I want a chance to pitch every fourth day instead of every fifth. That really drives me. Going along with that: how’s the medical staff? How’s the technology — the information that’s available on the coaching staff? What’s the culture of the organization like?”
I would temper expectations a bit ladies and gents.

Definitely don't sign any outfielders. The Angels have plenty in the minors and Adell should eventually be good. I wouldn't waste the money on any position players in free agency.

    I like Fangraphs' take:
Finally given regular playing time, Walsh has been on fire for the last two weeks. I think there’s a chance that like Allen Craig, Lucas Duda, Christian Walker, Jesús Aguilar, or Luke Voit before him, Walsh is another late-breaking power bat who has a narrow window during which he performs like a good everyday first baseman.
He seems to fit into that sort of category. These types of hitters tend to be good in their late 20s and early 30s, then drop off, so we could have a nice stretch during his controlled years.

He's gonna come down from this hot streak and the league will attack him differently.... But, as good as he's been he's not come close to matching his minor league walk rate..   Dude will get better there and it may all balance itself out to a degree.
That before and after video is great to see.  Its good when your team is taking the development part of player development and showing successes.

Cautionary Tale of Shane Spencer inserted here.

Also raked in minors at age 26, had a ridiculous end of September, 7 HR, 20 RBI in 9 games, similar slash and BB:K ratios as Walsh has in that time...was a relatively average to sub-average role player following.
Walsh looks great and I’m a believer, but tempering expectations still. He’s made an adjustment that’s given him a legit advantage. It’s now time for the pitchers to adjust. How Walsh adapts to that correction will help determine if this sticks, and we won’t really know until a month or so into ‘21. If anything, the fact that our coaching staff helped him make those corrections is the most promising aspect. We’re seeing signs of life in Ward, Thaiss has a whole new stance...

I just hope he takes his milestones and rides off into the sunset.  One of the off-season goals was a LHB for 1B, if that can turn out to be some combination of Walsh/Thaiss (both LHBs), that's a much better use of roster spots for the league minimum.

If they keep it they need to reduce number of regular season games as well.  Get it down to ~140.

Let me try to explain it and do not over think it!
According to fan graphs the average team wins 86% of their games.
They Angel's have had 18 save opportunities.  They have won only 11.  That is a winning percentage of 61.1%
Had the Angel's won 86% instead of 61% they would have won 15.48 games is not 11.  That is 4.38 game difference.
The analysis was to compare the Angels record if we had a league average bullpen.
Holds is not part of the analysis.  It takes into accounts both holds and save situations in which we either win or lose.
The opposing bullpens are already taken into consideration because I was using the league average. There is no need to compare their bullpens.  Constant was the league average.

kevinb reacted to Angelsjunky in Who was better in their prime years? Albert Pujols or Mike Trout?
Best nine seasons by wRC+, probably the best overall offense stat (Trout in bold):
    190, 184, 184, 180, 180, 180, 176, 176, 174, 171, 171, 170, 167, 167, 167, 164, 159, 155
That's pretty damn close, with maybe a slight edge to Trout.
Trout has the only 190 season. They both have three seasons of 180 or higher, but Trout has seven seasons of 170+ to Albert's five, and all nine of Trout's full seasons are 167 or better, while Albert only has six seasons at 167+.

Except everyone thinks the ball is juiced now and has been for a few years.   Also such a different era of hitting.  Albert has never struck out 100 times in a season because that isn’t how the game was played back then.  Next year in his 11th season, Trout will surpass Albert for career strike outs.  Obviously that is just one portion, but k’s are just awful and incredibly unproductive.

    48. Those +4 make all the difference.
But seriously, I think the excitement--however cautious--is understandable, seeing as 1B has been a big hole for years AND we've been waiting for one of the Mediocre Trio to show some life. Walsh finally is.

Not true. Other than the playoffs, I never watch MLB games that don't involve the Angels. Even with the Angels, I rarely watch all 9 innings.

Marsh is a much better OF defensively. If both Adell and Marsh are in the same OF, and one of them has to play CF, I assume it would be Marsh.
