Finally got around to watching Whiplash.

comments in this thread.  Been laid up in bed for a few days so i did a
marathon session yesterday.  Watched Season 1. Going to watch the
first episode of Season 2 right now.

I think one of the best things about what we are seeing now is that it bodes well for the future. Maybe he will be able to remain at least semi-productive into the latter years of the deal.

I hear you, but see it a bit differently and will characterize this by using a Buddhist analogy. In Zen it is said not to confuse the finger pointing at the moon with the moon itself. In this case, the "moon" is Faith - it is God, the undefinable absolute truth of reality. The "finger" is human interpretation. No human interpretation can adequately describe or define "God." In a way it is like the tower of Babel - it might start off as truth, but it gets interpreted and mangled and becomes the opposite from the initial impulse. A good example is how the words of Jesus, which were inspired by love I think, eventually became the Inquisition.
 
So I'm not denying the existence of "God," but I don't think any one view of God is absolute truth. All religions are like fingers pointing at the Moon. The Moon exists, it is real - it is the absolute nature of reality. But how we describe it and understand differs. And I'm including science in this, as well, for the scientific view on the universe and nature of reality is also a "finger pointing at the Moon" and not the Moon itself.

More (different?) people wanting to be married = attack on the cultural institution of marriage.
