I think we need to extend Bundy immediately. Heaney? Meh.

When I took a look at that list again yesterday it made me think, "all the more reason to go big on Bauer." There just isn't an equivalent long-term investment - at least unless Syndergaard re-establishes his value or McCullers finally puts it all together.
There are a lot of truly great pitchers on that list, including four future Hall of Famers, but they're all old: Kershaw is the baby of the quartet and he'll be 34, and is clearly not the pitcher he was a few years ago.

Bingo.  That's the problem i have with the Quintana signing and no (yet) FA/Trade -- nobody signed after this year.  There's a lot of age and injury concerns on that FA list for next year.  But as currently set, we need to get two of those guys at least.  Now if we get Bauer and extend Bundy, then we are set and can allow Detmers, Rodriguez and even Sandoval, Barria, Saurez, etc. fight for back end starts in 2022.  Maybe just some cheap vet for depth,  but no requirement for big $$$ long year risky FA investments in SPs.

He should be.  He's what they needed now....heck, he's what they have needed for like 4-5+ years ongoing now.  But alas, we all know the inevitable -- it'll be anyone but the Angels.

Maybe Minasian likes our farm system and prospects much more than you might expect.  Many times new GMs come in and don't have the attachment to these prospects and are more willing to trade them.  He's yet to do so with any of our valuable guys.  It doesn't appear yet that we've even been that involved at all seriously in the SP trades to date (Snell, Darvish, Musgrove, etc.).  So trying to be glass-half full, he's very high on our prospects and thinks they will be impact guys...at least that's what i'm going with right now to make me feel better.

    Thanks Angels61!
If by chance they both go back to pre-2020 results, this is going to be a brutal year.  We will have Scheiber (no idea if that is his name, but close enough) in RF and Albert at 1st base.

Well, I dunno. $8M might be double what Quintana is probably worth.
Is this a Matt Harvey-class reclamation project?
Maybe I'm just a skeptic when it comes to these bargain retreads.
Wake me if something important happens.

If I read one more idea about what the Angels should do next in yet another thread, I might not be able to control myself.

I don't think the reliever bright in necessarily need to be Brad Hand either. There are some early warning signs flashing with him right now. Relievers are so volatile anyway.
Joakim Soria or Trevor Rosenthal could serve in a similar capacity and not come with the decrease in velocity, though they both come with concerns of their own. Soria is up there in age and miles, and Rosenthal has inexplicable bouts of control issues that last for months at a time.

I'm willing to let this whole offseason play out and see where we are pitching staff wise, etc.  I don't want to overreact before it's all said & done.  I'm not too happy currently with the lack of a #1-2 type SP who is dependable to take the ball for 30+ starts and go 7+ innings.  I'm tired of these one year deals for guys who to revive their careers or one last payday.  I'm hopeful Q is the depth guy in this offseason and something bigger is coming.  So I'm leaving the pitchfork alone for now....but it's out of the closet and ready for use as needed.

your #2 (Har har) is a concern.  Unless Rodriguez and Detmers come to play this year then you're potentially rebuilding the entire rotation in 2022 which is why I'd like to see them at least lock up Bundy for awhile.  (frankly, one way or another)

Lol at people defending this move like it takes us to playoff caliber by itself. It’s okay to let people be skeptical of this organizations ability to put together a competent starting rotation.

Let’s see what Perry does in the next few days. Should be very interesting.

I don’t see the Angels investing this much money in the team and not being in on Bauer. You don’t drop what they have spent on Rendon and Trout unless you badly want to win, and Bauer is the best way to win. Doesn’t mean they will get him, but I’d be shocked if they weren’t one of his most serious bidders.
