Crazy to think there is an audio clip confirming this lost and forgotten for almost 9 decades. It kind of puts things in perspective, this wasn't all that long ago, and the world wasn't all that different, with baseball, newspapers, beat writers, and radio programs hosted by now nameless entertainers. Yet such a monumental feat can be relegated to the status of myth... perhaps not unlike the 100 point Wilt Chamberlin game. Makes you think just how much of our modern society will be lost to time within just a couple of generations.

Strad you honestly crack me up. When did I call him a villain or make him out to be a villain. I said it is what it is. It's selfish but that's what he wants to do. So be it. I think it's quitting on his team. He is thinking about his future and about free agency. You are the only one that thinks something is going on with his family. No one in the organization knew anything before he called it quits on the season. I'll gladly take my lashing if something turns out that he walked away because of a family emergency. Yes, I am a purist and would like it to be 2 leagues and winner of each plays in the WS, but I know that is unrealistic today. But now the gold standard of consistency and longevity is replaced by hot streaks and clutch performance. Play .500 (as someone pointed out) and get hot the last month and win it all.

Numbers dont lie. Pujos was every bit as good as Trout if not better. Cant use steroids as an excuse in this case as they were never proven. Either way both had similar numbers and not many post these numbers. Pujos is a first ballot HOF as will Trout be. The one thing that I will say is that Pujos got to play in meaningful games with a good team. This affords him the opportunity for protection in the line-up, runners on base, and just the ability to elevate your game . Trout has had none of these luxuries.

No the coaching staff definitely isn’t the problem. Maddon got a little cheeky his first week as manager and made some real ballsy but bone headed choices. He’s seemed to tone it back and is doing a really good job imo.

The single feature that stands out over the last 5 years of Epplerball is waiting for the rotation to finally come together under the power of (mostly) homegrown talent: Garret Richards, Matt Shoemaker, Tyler Skaggs, Andrew Heaney, Nick Tropeano, Nick Maronde, Alex Meyer, etc, and now the new wave of Patrick Sandoval, Griffin Canning, Shohei Ohtani, Jose Suarez, Jaime Barria. Eppler has augmented this group with clean peanuts, of which only one has turned out well (Dylan Bundy). It is like an ever-churning treadmill of disappointments and mediocrities.

Good article. Kind of reflects an indecisive, half assed philosophy. Seems more focussed on things like term and control rather than skill and ability.
