I don't care if the Angels are overpaying Trout. I couldn't give less than a shit about the "production" or lackthereof they're getting out of the contract. This guy is loyal, and seems intent on sticking with his original team until they can become winners. Which hopefully they will someday soon. Because Trout seems to agree that there's a lot more satisfaction in winning in the place that you started than jumping ship to somewhere new where it's expected, but where you have no history. It cheapens the value of winning.
I'd rather them overpay Trout a billion times over than overpay the likes of Pujols, Hamilton, etc.
    Let's fucking go Trout 👏

It's not as if Trout is killing it in Anaheim but the team around him sucks. He hasn't been good and now he's hurt. Again.
Trout has had a great career. He got the big contract and was the poster boy of MLB for several years. Now he's in the twilight of his career.
If he wanted to win championships he should never have signed the extension with the Angels. Some of us said that at the time.
If Trout wants out of Anaheim I'm sure we would have heard about it by now.

Yep. It's also stupid to imply Trout has no agency or personal choice in the matter.

It’s pathetic.  I love Mike Trout.  He’s my favorite player ever. To act like he’s owed anything is juvenile. He and many other players traded their freedom for dollars.

Little known fact. Cash considerations has been traded nearly 1,588x in his big league career. Incredible stat!

My biggest issue with the umpires is that the bad ones aren’t held accountable. If they would weed out the Angel Hernandez’s of the world, there wouldn’t be as big an outcry for robo umps.

What Adell needs to realize is he has SO MUCH power that he doesn't need to swing the bat so godamned hard, and his swing doesn't need to be so big and long, he just needs to make contact and good things will happen.
I think he's realized that more than ever so far this season, so I'm not too worried about 1 game.
As for the rest of the team, the striking out with a RISP and less than 2 outs absolutely kills us, it needs to be drilled into these guys' heads that contact absolutely has to be made.
And that doesn't mean going up there ready to swing at the first pitch no matter where it's thrown, it means you go up to the plate with a plan, waiting until the pitcher makes a mistake and gives you something you can hit. It's just so obvious some of these guys are ready to swing before the pitch is thrown, and of course pitchers can smell that a mile away.
This team has struggled with productive outs for a decade now, and their record has reflected that.
A sacrifice fly seems like such an oddity at this point, I'm actually shocked when they pull one off.

It’s time for robo ball/strike calling, the calls are seemingly the worst they’ve been.
The ball moves too much too quickly nowadays with the spinning.
Also, it was the second time this season both teams are off Thursday, yet it was a day game.   Did something change with the new players union agreement?

@jsnpritchett when you watch the game what do you watch/see? Just the outcome of the at bat? Or, the opposing hitters at bat?
I watch our hitters setup, stance, in at bat adjustment if one is made? I can tell if their over thinking an at bat like Adel swing to k in the 9th he was looking slider down then had to adjust to a fastball up and he couldn't catch up to the velo high in the upper part of the zone.
Watch the defense if we shift then the pitch sequence, if the pitches called would be effective to get the hitter to hit into your shift. Did the pitcher execute that pitch or sequence successfully?
And I watch the pitchers mechanics including landing, release points, including if they're rushing through their mechanics, landing on their heal, ball of the foot, if they spin off, and then location which may/May not effect the pitch location which works for or against the sequencing and the defensive alignment..
That's what video is good for. You learn a lot by watching the game and breaking it down to its simplicities, intricacies and outcomes.
I would be bored if I just sat their and waited for outcomes... It's also hard to understand why things happen if you do that. Slumps, ineffectiveness, a decrease in abilities etc.

No timetable for Rendon. Depending on how serious the tear is, he could be out three months or so. Best-case scenario is probably a couple months.

The Angels need to have a plan to compete that doesn’t rely on “if Trout stays healthy and plays like Mike Trout.”
Sure we would like to see him healthy and playing well, but it can’t be central to the plan.
I buy lottery tickets sometimes for the possible longshot of the windfall upside, but buying lottery tickets isn’t my plan to be financially secure.
The team needs to be committed to building a roster that that could win 100 games with no games played by Trout.

You hit the nail on the head. I am fed up with his lackadaisical attitude and flippant excuses. Never in a million years would you have heard such nonsense from the likes of a Lee Smith, Goose Gossage, Troy Percival, or Rollie Fingers. They were pissed off if they gave up one run and still got the save. They made sure the hitters who got a hit off them got some high-and-tight chin music next time around. You never heard such ludicrous and self-serving claptrap coming from them. Estevez is weak willed and apparently of a snowflake persona. He needs to be shipped out with a "Do not return" tag.

There's a hundred things to look at here, but I just can't stand Estevez. He's been bad since the All Star Break, but he acts like he's a dominant closer. His quotes are just outlandish. I actually went back and looked at some Rockies ones from blown saves. It's always, "Look, Ok, it happens. Guys get lucky. Tomorrow's a new day. I am full of confidence."
He has no confidence. I watched this guy end our season on a grand slam last year to a guy that is currently struggling in AAA. Quote? "It's tough, but we got a lot more games." And still, it's always excuses. The Rays blown save? "It's unfortunate we lost on a weak grounder." Giants? "Honestly I feel good. Felt really good."
Tonight? Castellanos "Cheated fastball...he's really strong...and unfortunately it went out." Rojas, he of the 3 career HR? "It happens...hopefully next time I'll go out with the same mentality."
The arrogance and ignorance just bugs me. You have an ERA over 7.00. As a closer. Have some pride and acknowledge letting Anderson, Rengifo, and your entire team down.

I'm reminded of something Rob Neyer said....I found the quote:
"And that's why the shift doesn't make much difference. Sure, it might make the manager look smarter. But it probably doesn't make the great hitter any less great, unless he's both stubborn and stupid."
That said, if I remember correctly, the shift took off after Pujols was already in rapid decline. Albert seemed to have an off year in 2011, his last with the Cardinals, and then had a terrible start in 2012, depressing his overall numbers. But at the end of 2012, there was hope he'd bounce back. But it turns out that the "off" year in 2011 and the slow start in 2012 wasn't that after, but actual decline. And yes, I think Neyer's description fits Pujols and his approach. Quite a few of us, including both you and I iirc, said that Albert could probably hit .290+ with 25+ HRs if he just changed his approach. But he wouldn't.
Not saying the shift wasn't a big factor, but there were others...including the significantly possibility that he's actually 2-3 years older than advertised.
While I agree that they differ in that Trout's and Rendon's decline is mostly injury related, I do wonder about the approach factor - particularly with training. Whatever Trout is doing, no matter how many tires he flips, isn't working. His body is injury prone, and I think that's at least partially due to its bulkiness - and emphasis on strength over flexibility. The guy should be doing yoga, not flipping tires. But that is mostly speculative.
Anyhow, the similarity I referred to is mostly decline, and the understandable disappointment we all share. Pujols was one of the best players of the 2000s, and he became one of the worst free agent signings in baseball history for the Angels. Trout was the best player of the 2010s with arguably the greatest first eight seasons in baseball history, and has been a shadow of his former self for five years now. Rendon...well, you know. So again, the similarity is the vast gulf between reasonable expectation and actuality. All three are huge disappointments with terrible contracts.

Oh I get it -- I just dont want to see another guy pushed into something and then being worse off for it.

Call me a hater, but there's a part of me that is enjoying seeing their refusal to add IF help or sign an OFer come back to bite them in the ass.  I wasn't in the "sign the big guys" camp, but I wanted them to make sensible offers to people who weren't absolute trash. There was nothing, absolutely nothing that would have kept them from playing the young guys AND making an attempt at safeguarding themselves by signing capable players.
People can say that it takes two to tango and the sort, but there's enough info out there to know who the Angels did and didn't make offers on.

Nothing about AP's decline or performance was injury related save for the season he hurt his leg.  The single biggest factor into his demise was the shift.

At this point, Trout and Rendon are more like Pujols than different. All three collapsed in their early 30s...Trout actually did in his late 20s. He really is Griffey 2.

And if there is a silver lining, it’s that both Adell and Moniak are at a stage in their careers where they either need to entrench themselves and be a part going forward, or the Angels will need to move on from them being a part of long-term plans, and that was only going to really be justifiably definitive either way if they both banked significant, uninterrupted playing time this year.

I believe Perry and Arte should consider incorporating yoga and massager into our team's overall health regimen. Numerous studies have shown its physical and mental benefits, which could help alleviate the strains and stresses our bodies experience.
