If the majority is picking the Angels finishing in third or fourth place ... then I don't understand how you can blame MS. This will be on Dipoto not Scioscia.

My crystal ball has the opening day lineup being

    Calhoun, RF
    Trout, CF
    Pujols, 1B
    Hamilton, LF
    Freese, 3B
    Ibanez, DH
    Kendrick, 2B
Iannetta, C(I'd rather have Conger as the everyday starter but I'm not confident to say he will be at this stage)
    Aybar, SS

TEXHALOFAN reacted to Angels in Jerome Williams non-tendered
The level of outrage over losing Jerome Williams has reached comedic levels. Dipoto has made many questionable decisions, but this is not one of them. You don't pay a long reliever/spot starter $4-5 million. Especially a team that is cash-strapped. You just don't.
I understand that the Angels need depth...but finding a Jerome Williams for league minimum (or close to it) shouldn't be hard to do. Just how difficult could it be to find a pitcher who is slightly above replacement level (if given enough innings)? If you are forced to rely on Jerome Williams to make 25+ starts (as he did last season), then you are screwed either way.
It's nice to have a Jerome Williams, but not for $4-5 million. For a million tops, sure. And any competent minor league farm system should have a few of Jerome Williams' at the AAA level.

I live in Texas as well moved from chino to San Antonio TX. I don't post that much here but a lot of the posters are informative and love the Angels as much as I do. When I'm here it feels like I'm back in Cali.

Just wanted to say thanks. Been an Angel fan since the day I was born and moved to Texas about 6yrs ago. It's nice to come to a place and talk Angel baseball good, bad or ugly. I like reading everyone's posts and I'm confident we will make the moves required to stick it to Tejas and bring the west title back to where it belongs in Southern California.

TEXHALOFAN reacted to Second Base in Cardinals sign Peralta 4yr/$52mil
If they're comfortable signing a known PED user on the wrong side of 30 that's already a poor defensive shortstop for 13 million a year then that's their curse.  For their sake they just have to hope Peralta's using something now that's more untraceable that way he can cheat without the risk of getting caught and they can reap the benefits.

Calhoun is a better hitter with a canon for an arm in RF. The Angels are very high on Calhoun. I'm wondering if you watched him play at all last year and noticed we had Mike Trout roaming CF.

You would rather have Bourjos on the bench (when we have Shuck for that role) and a nobody at 3B over Freese.

BTW, Green was never an option for 3B.

Ok.  But where do you play Calhoun? Would you rather see Bourjos out there over Calhoun? I certainly wouldn't.

The addition of Freese allows DiPoto to trade one of Aybar or Kendrick for a starting pitcher. Think outside the box Angels fans. This trade is merely to position DiPoto to make a bigger trade with another team.

Trading a bench player (Bourjos) for a starting 3Bman is a good trade in my opinion.

Joe Nathan voided his option and the Rangers didn't give him a qualifying offer. He'd be a serious upgrade at closer and wouldn't cost a draft pick.

TEXHALOFAN reacted to Chuck in Ubaldo Jimenez
I'd really like the Angels to sign him him as a FA this off-season. The Indians discovered a mechanical flaw in his delivery that got him back to his days when he was a true #1 with the Rockies, and it showed as he dominated from June on. Overall, Jimenez went 13-9 this past season with a 3.30 ERA over 32 starts and 182 2/3 innings. He struck out 194 batters and had a 1.33 WHIP.

For the money, I think adding Jimenez and Vargas and shoring up the BP may be the best route to go this offseason.

Tanaka is going to cost a fortune and isn't a sure thing in the big leagues, and David Price is going to cost an arm and a league. Unless of course we can get him for the cost of Trumbo, Bourjos and a good young arm like Sappington. One thing is for sure, the Rays won't need an arm back to replace Price in the rotation. They have plenty of arms ready to take his place, but lack some offseason.

I can tell you this from some information I came across recently. Joe Maddon really likes Bourjos and Trumbo.

A rotation of Weaver, Jimenez, Wilson, Vargas and Richards should be very good. If we add a couple more BP arms via FA or trades, even better.

If Trumbo is dealt, his production will need to be replaced. We can look to fill that via a DH type player in FA or a trade.

How about bringing Mike Napoli back, or making a run at Brian McCann to be our part-time DH/C? Napoli could be our backup 1B and DH. A couple more to consider for DH, Carlos Beltran, Nelson Cruz or Kendrys Morales (if Trumbo is dealt for a SP).
