Cardinals beat writers were pretty much saying it was dead in the water after the Freese-Bourjos trade yesterday, but that should just about kill any remaining hope of getting one of those Cardinals' arms for Aybar.

I'm not big on Peralta, but from the Cards FO perspective, it's only money and don't have to give up young pitchers. And there is no loss of draft pick w/ signing Peralta

I thought they wanted to keep their payroll down. What good are all those pitchers if you can only start 5. Seems like they would be better served trading one of those young guys for Aybar and saving cash.

how much would they be saving really?  4-5 mil per year?  and they'd lose a pitcher with value.  

 

you can never have enough pitching.  If they felt like they needed to offload someone, they could move lance lynn and Jaime Garcia for prospects and stock their farm even further.

I think I read that the Cards had $30M come off the books (Beltran, C Carpenter, Furcal). They have money if they want to spend. I guess they preferred to keep all the young pitching. Maybe they move one in another move. I dunno.

We should of been able to package PB and Aubar for Freese and Kelly or Lynn plus BP help (other than Salas)

If they're comfortable signing a known PED user on the wrong side of 30 that's already a poor defensive shortstop for 13 million a year then that's their curse.  For their sake they just have to hope Peralta's using something now that's more untraceable that way he can cheat without the risk of getting caught and they can reap the benefits.

In all fairness, it's only 2 DUIs. His other arrest was only "... for being under intoxication, being intoxicated in public, and resisting and delaying an officer in his duties."
