Enough where they hit more often than they miss.
Look at the Orioles and their turnaround if you want to see how a team that fully committed to analytics is now poised to compete for the next decade.

I've been great my whole life, how dare you put me fifth on the depth chart? Don't you know who I am? I appeared in an Adidas commercial? Adidas!
Seriously though, I'm not sure which part of his game has been more disappointing, offensive or defense? I suppose it's probably defense since looking THAT bad is actually impressive. Mark Trumbo looked better at 3B than Adell did in his "natural" position.

I wonder if we can get both of these two to round out our bullpen?

Kotchman was the first guy I thought of. For whatever reason when he got his shot he was hit with a string of terrible luck health issues. There was always the concern that he'd never develop enough power so it's hard to say if it was health that did him in, but damn, it's rare to see a guy peak so young and at such a high level.

According to his stat sheet, GA played in A + for one season. And that was in Palm Springs. That was before the PS team moved to Elsinore. I remember watching him play in Palm Springs.

I still think that if the Angels get one more good starting pitcher....good being the key term, and another good reliever... That could get them over the hump and put them in prime position for the playoffs, if Trout and Shohei remain healthy.

I think the cheap 4th OF is being filled by the minor league deals we are making.  I actually would be pleased with Barrera if he got the job during ST.  He can field all 3 positions and his hit tool is sufficient such that I think he can at least be slightly above replacement level.
Alternatively, the idea that was floated of having Walsh/Rengifo occasionally play the corner OF, with Ward serving as the backup CF, and keeping Velazquez on the roster solely for late inning defensive purposes seems like a decent idea too.

ScruffytheJanitor reacted to Second Base in OC Register: Hoornstra: Will Atlanta Braves’ ‘Core 9’ strategy benefit baseball?
There's no downside to this strategy. 99% of players that go through the arbitration process and free agency absolutely hate it.
Do you think Austin Riley is really thinking, " Gosh, I wish I could have attended highly contested meeting between the team and my agent and sat around all winter wondering where I'll move my family to instead of getting paid hundreds of millions of dollars to play for a perennial contender surrounded by all my friends I came up with."
When an inventor invents something that is pretty useful, he patents it because he wants to reap the fruits of the usefulness of his labor. Similarly, when teams recognize they have something special, they need to invest in these kids early on so that as they get better and reach their potential, the organization can read the benefits of their success.
And this strategy really isn't exclusive to large market teams. The Rays, perpetually ones of the "poorest" franchises in baseball did those with Evan Longoria and Wander Franco. The Braves are smart to do this, as were the Angels when they locked in Mike Trout...TWICE!
If I'm the Orioles, I'm exploring big extensions for Adley Rutschman and Gunner Henderson. If I'm the Blue Jays, I'm on the phone with Guerrero and Bichette's agents. If I'm the Angels, they should be talking to Sandoval and Detmers agents.
Every team should be doing this.

For the record Bauer was found guilty of nothing.  The “accuser” wasn’t even able to prove the basis for a restraining order and Bauer will likely be successful in his civil suit against the woman.  There are photos of her, taken by her after the alleged incident where she is in his bed and perfectly fine.  She’s basically admitted it was a scam.
You can dislike him as a person or player but he’s a victim, plain and simple.
