Ok, you and I disagree, you sound so authoritative or like you have inside info.... but you don't.
Even if they don't get Stroman, Ray or Gausman, I expect them to go for a durable guy. Cobb is not durable, and Rich Hill is 41. And sucked when he was here last.
Stroman can still pitch 30 times plus.
No one is using us to jack up their price. Let's stop with the victimhood.

    This is completely fixable.
No strike or lock-out required. I think the economy and cost of living issues right now (and for the past several years) plus the growing distaste for the Uber-wealthy, make a work stoppage a really difficult proposal for either side.
OK, so biggest issue is revenue split. Revenues are approaching 11 billion annually while average player salaries are falling.
    How is this corrected?
MLBPA wants raises in minimum salary, quicker arbitration, service time adjustments, earlier free agency, and changes to the draft order. They're also in favor of the universal DH.
Owners want a lower luxury tax threshold, increase in penalties, changing service time to age based, soft salary floor, an arbitration pool of funds, disallowing tanking teams to continue to draft highly, expanded playoffs, international draft.
    Ok, so here's the fix.
    Revenues and Luxury Tax.
Mandate Owners spend a specific portion of previous years revenues on player salaries. This percentage will set the upcoming tax and floor levels. Allow team to self report revenues, but allow team by team audits if revenues decrease by a certain percentage. Base this on TV contracts and gate revenues only. Give players a bonus if they don't reach percentage as a whole, to be paid equally to all players and by all teams.
Lower the minimum salary for first year players but increase it for second and increase it again for three years of service or greater. Something like 550K for rookies, 650k for second year, and 750k for third year or greater. Tie this dollar value to a specific percentage of revenues.
    Arbitration and Service Time.
Give players salary arbitration at completion of two full years of service or in their third calendar season in the majors. Exclude one Sept. Call up from service time. Meaning a player called up in 2021 in Sept, will still have to play 2022 and 2023 before arbitration. Give them free agency at 5 years of service or at age 29 which ever comes first.
Base arbitration salary on WAR as in MLB's current proposal. Tie amount of Money per WAR to percentage of revenues.
    Draft and Free Agency Compensation
Allow trading of draft picks. Allow international draft. Give a weighted draft lottery to all non-playoff teams like NBA, but also mandate minor league signing bonus by draft slot like the NFL does. Expand draft back to 40 rounds or do two separate drafts for international and USA.
Get rid of qualifying offer. Tie compensation for free agents to WAR value and add picks based on free agency loss and free agency gain per team. Base on previous two seasons of WAR. Mets Lose Noah Syndergaard, Marcus Stroman and Javier Baez, but sign Kris Bryant and Robbie Ray? Average the WAR lost = Additional end of second round pick. Blue Jays lose Semien and Ray but sign Taylor? Compensation is end of first round pick.
    Playoffs, Expansion, and DH
Allow expanded playoffs, 7 teams per league at 30 teams, but 8 teams if league expands to 32 teams. Realign divisions to 4  per league if expansion occurs.
    Allow DH in both leagues.

They don't need to sign Ohtani for two more seasons. He can't leave until the 2024 season. The biggest incentive to resign a guy who is as competitive as Ohtani is, is to give him the money he deserves, but also to make the playoffs in 2022 and 2023.

Yeah, they spent on Weaver/ Wilson/ Haren, and then tried to develop pitching with Richards, Heaney, and Skaggs, and ultimately were unsuccessful.
With Sandoval, Suarez making a leap forward, and Canning taking a step back, they need some external arms and they know it.
Reminder than the opening day rotation for 2021 was Bundy, Heaney, Cobb , Ohtani, Quintana and Canning.
Four of those guys are free agents. They've replaced three. There will be one more acquisitions.

I hope we ignore the possibility that we could end up with 4 or more offensive black holes in the lineup and that we had one of the worst defenses in baseball last year even though our pitching was actually above middle of the pack.  But yeah.  Pitching.  Let's ignore what actually happened last year.  Like it's 1985.

1.5 years is on the light side, IMO.
He probably spends the next 2 full seasons in A+ and AA. If he can progress past AA, then he may need another full season or season and a half in AAA.
Which is fine. He's still only 22.

If he didn't randomly follow me on twitter...I wouldn't ever have thought of him. I thought he was retired.
I still thought they should've brought him back after 12, even after his bad year. (5.16 ERA in 30 starts). I was obviously right, because he had 5 good seasons, (one of them shortened by injury) after that for KC, ATL, and MIN. (3.24 ERA in 30 starts, 3.95 in 31, 4.00 in 17, 3.38 in 30, 3.28 in 33 starts).
At 39, he isn't probably a starter anymore, but he was great in the second half with a 3.16 ERA down the stretch for KC.

He had a 4.68 ERA last year in 65 innings for the Royals, and finished 19 games. If it's for the ML minimum, take a shot and let him finish his career here.

He'd be fine in the role Guerra should have been limited to. The guy you bring in when a SP gives up 6+ in first 2 IP, or to cover last three innings of a blowout.

I didn't even follow him, even though he was one of my favorite Angels pitchers.
I though he retired? I guess he's pitching out of the pen now? Any interest in bringing him back as a reliever?

Hubs got a reaction from Warfarin in Noah Syndergaard - Angels Agree to 1-Year, $21 Million Deal
Syndergaard has been out for 18 months… it’ll be 23 in ST. The rehab is over.  A lot of guys post TJ  take the better part of two years to rehab. This is why Ohtani wasn’t right until 2021.
As for Kazmir, he was acquired in a trade. He barely pitched for the Mets in the minors, being moved to Tampa. Angels acquired him a few years later for prospects that never turned into stars on the Rays or in MLB. Alex Torres and Matt Sweeney, plus a PTBNL who turned it to be Sean Rodriguez. He made around $20M Over two full seasons in Anaheim.
Torres had one good year before being shipped to The Padres. He also just sucked, he was dealing with injuries but not TJ. His mechanics were out of whack but he was only 25.

I don’t think you can compare the two.
