    A related over/under. . .

What is the percentage of Angel fans that subconsciously wants Upton to fail because they want an immediate path for Marsh and Adell, and because they pathologically enjoy criticizing the Angels for expensive contracts that don’t end well?
    I will take the over.

Yeah that game turned the series around. People forget that we won the first game in Chicago and that would’ve made us up 2-0 headed home for three.

Maybe he’ll be an OF and a backup C?

Minasian and Madison clearly have nothing to lose here, Eppler moved him off the Catcher spot and his offense went through the roof.
if he can hit and also catch, it’s a huge asset for us.

March — Spring training is ok, ohtani looks good with the bat and on the mound leading to a lot of speculation and excitement. Marsh looks great. Heaney goes down with a minor injury as in past seasons, seemingly putting Barria in rotation and Sandoval in pen. Angels do bolster their rotation though and grab Walker and reliever Justin Wilson.
April — Angels get off to a hot start, pen being lights out and rotation being solid. Ohtani doesn’t go deep into games, averaging only 4 innings, but they lineup Barria to piggy back his starts. Upton gets off to a great start offensively and people stop criticizing him. They end the the month 5 games over .500.

May — Uptons hot streak falters but he’s still productive. Ward and Fowler are in a straight platoon and productive. Trout is phenomenal and Pujols homers in three straight games and is happy in his final season with his limited playing time. Heaney returns at the end of May and they give Canning a two week break to limit innings. They’re 7 games over .500 and battling the A’s for first.
June — Walsh is absolutely on fire, and sets the Major League Record for Home Runs in June. Canning returns from his break refreshed and ready to go and they send out Walker. Adell and Marsh are chomping at the bit, so they ask Ward to try to play catcher again since he’s been hitting and has taken over for Fowler as the primary RF, but his defense has been just adequate. Stassi is out with a hip Contusion so Ward and Suzuki form a platoon. Adel is promoted the right field spot.
July — Angels surge to a clear lead in the division before the break. Walker returns and he’s lights out, Ohtani gets a break. Three actually with the All Star Game. Walsh, Trout, Rendon all start for the AL. At the deadline, the Angels move Jose Iglesias, Quintana, Stassi, and a few prospects for Trevor Story who is leading the NL in batting average and is the only player in the baseball above Mike Trout but has not signed an extension so the Rockies let him go. German Marquez is not part of the deal unfortunately but they do bring in Jon Gray.
August — The Angels offense is the best in the league and everyone is hitting. Their pitching is good and Ohtani returns to the rotation and is a clear Ace, even though his innings are not great, going only 6 innings per start. Cobb gets a break. Barria has embraced the piggyback role and regularly finishes games with 3 innings after the starter goes 6. Angels pen is best in league and Raisel Iglesias is among the top closers in the game. Trout though shows everyone why he’s the best player in the league, and surges from his high .340’s Average which had been leading the league prior to Story being acquired. From him The second week of August through the end of the Month, he goes 60/110 which is a .545 average and pushes his overall average to .389.
September — Marsh is promoted when rosters expand and Adell moves to left. Angels are clearly in first because the Astros are fourth in the division behind the Rangers and A’s, just Slightly ahead of the Mariners. Trouts incredible three weeks is over, but he still pushes ahead to a .406 average on September 10th. Walsh surges again but the star of the month is Anthony Rendon, who quietly has put up the best numbers of his career. Angels win division, Trout drops below .400 for the last two and half weeks, leaving many to believe he won’t make it but just average is .391 headed into the final three games of the season. But he goes 11-12 and finishes at .401. Angels finish at 97-65.

October —Angels sweep their first playoff series with Trout, and their offense looks unstoppable. Canning has two excellent starts in the ALDS against the White Sox . In the ALCS against the Yankees, Ohtani dominates no-hitting the Yankees over 6 2/3, but with over 100 pitches Madison turns to Barria to comes in to finish the no-no. Angels win in 6. It’s an Angels-Dodgers World Series and the Dodgers take an early 2-0 lead, but the Angels win three straight including an extra inning affair in game 3 where Pujols wins it with a walk off. Game 6 goes eerily familiar with the Angels going down 5-0. Inexplicably Roberts calls for the game ball for Walker Buehler and sends in Blake Treinen to face Trout. Trout hits a double scoring Fletcher from second, then the Angels load the bases for Walsh, who clears the bases with a moonshot, to tie the game. Adell doubles in Marsh in the eighth, pushing the Angels ahead. And Iglesias slams the door shut in the bottom of the ninth.

    Angels win the World Series.

Hector Santiago were both acquired under DiPoto. He had two years in the rotation with ERA’s under 4 then Eppler shopped him for Nolasco and Meyer.
Chacin Was average and Peters was brought in as a minor league deal.
That’s not great, obviously but it’s not terrible.

Maybe we shouldn’t be bashing Sherman in a thread where he had an unpopular opinion that wound up being accurate a couple months later...
Sherman: “Angels need 6 to 8 pitchers”
AW: “This sounds extreme does he even follow the Angels?”
*Angels add 6 pitchers to MLB ready depth*
AW: “We still need a couple more pitchers!”

You are so wildly off base. None of the other players you mention as cheaters had any guarantee for success. The guy swinging the bat might be swinging a steroid enhanced bat at a steroid enhance strike throw By a bulked up pitcher. Knowing what pitch is coming dramatically alters the game and competition. The entire team should have been suspended if not banned from baseball a la the Black Sox

It's cool Hubs. You're the only one who played this little game of mine, and I read every word. Thank you for that.
The one that really got the wheels turning for me was when you said Ward would move back to catcher out of necessity. That really would be something. I know he stopped catching because the organization wasn't keen on his communicative ability with pitchers. He had all the skills you look for behind the plate, but proved deficient at managing a staff.
The craziest part was the way his bat just exploded after switching. No one saw that coming. But I wonder if he's matured in the last couple years, to the point where being a second or third string catcher should be seriously considered.
    Fun to ponder.

Also to be clear, I predicted Ward hoing back to catcher, Walsh setting the monthly HR record for June, and the Angels copying the exact 2002 WS scenario down to the game ball.
I Was intentionally over the top.

I intentionally was over the top, to point out that the OP has literally no idea and anything can happen. He’s always down on veterans and paints rosy pictures of guys who haven’t debuted yet. It’s what he does. Upton has one bad month and one month... in 23 games in August and July He was terrible, but in September he hit to a .936 OPS. But since SecondBase doesnt like him, he’s gonna suck and he’s gonna be basically cut in favor of Marsh and Adams.

If anyone can do it, Trout can hit .400.
