    How fitting...
15 years ago on Nov. 22, 2007 the Angels signed Torii Hunter
Yesterday, on Nov. 22, 2022 the Angels traded for Hunter Renfroe

This gives me Frank Vogel vibes. I'm not saying that Madden doesn't deserve some of the blame but this 12-game losing streak is mostly not his fault. Trout hitless slump, SP fail, the best guys in the bullpen being terrible and on and on.

I was critical of him being 3B coach for leading league in runners thrown out at home, but to be fair managing is a different skill set.

All I remember about Phil Nevin is that game where he started a bench-clearing brawl in 1998 or thereabouts.

Adenhart's family: No one better than Syndergaard to wear late son's No. 34

Next season, Noah Syndergaard will become the first member of the Los Angeles Angels to wear No. 34 since Nick Adenhart, who died 13 years ago.
And, to Adenhart's family, there's no better candidate.
"We are of the opinion that we think there could be no one better than Noah Syndergaard to wear (the number)," Adenhart's stepfather Duane Gigeous told Sam Blum of The Athletic.
"We appreciate the type of pitcher that he is and the type of competitor that he is. … I think, hopefully, it will spark some conversations," Gigeous added, speaking on behalf of Adenhart's mother and brother as well. "There's a generation of baseball fans who don't know who Nick is and don't know Nick's story."
Adenhart was killed by a drunk driver on April 9, 2009, just hours after starting on the mound for the Angels. Two other people died in the two-car crash.
Adenhart, 22-years-old at the time, went six shutout innings in his final appearance, allowing seven hits and three walks while striking out five in his only start in 2009. The right-hander briefly made it to the majors the previous season before earning a rotation spot out of spring training the following year.
Syndergaard, 29, has exclusively worn No. 34 his entire major-league career. The former All-Star signed a one-year, $21-million contract with the Angels earlier this offseason following six seasons with the New York Mets.

Was going to say it helps Ohtani.  Then I realized, no, he hits everything well into the seats there.
Then was going to say it hurt Heaney.  Then I realized, no, every HR he gave up there went well into the seats.

Only thing I can say with confidence is that it would have helped Brian Downing.
Oh wait, the scoreboard wasn't there when he played.  Never mind.

My biggest takeaway reading that article was how his talking about how he was unsure how to use his FBs and tinkering with grips reminded me of Canning's struggles.  Hopefully whoever was spending all the time looking into unlocking Lorenzen can now shift his attention to Canning, because fixing the guy with the 4 years of control who looked like a budding rotation piece coming into 2021 seems like it should be a pretty big priority.

He was actually supposed to be in the rotation for the 2021 season after essentially saving their asses as a starter late 2020. However, an injury in 2021 prevented him from getting those reps in Spring Training and they couldn't afford to give him those reps midseason.

    That's really all this about.
There's some intrigue there, but at worst we're getting a pretty decent power arm at the backend of the bullpen so I'm pretty happy with this signing.

I’m still pretty high on Canning.  Maybe foolishly.  But he’s got the tool kit to be a good major league pitcher.  I have less faith that the Angels can help him get there.  We’ll see.  Here’s to hoping.

    Yes.
Not every pitcher finds their way early in their career. Canning had a horrendous 2021 but he has shown he can get batters out at the MLB level.
He has the stuff to do so. He just has to un-Heaney himself.

Different year, same story back 10 years with starting pitching
This has become the easiest thing to bet on each off-season (no multiple year/solid money deals for a starting pitcher).
If not for Iglesias being re-signed, I’d be totally pissed off by now.
