same. i feel like an indians fan at the beginning of major league.

I can agree with this. I have zero eagerness for the season to start. Probably won’t even bother to buy mlb.tv this year, won’t bother going to any games.

pretty sad when I think about it, how little I care about baseball for this upcoming season. The comments by Arte just added to it.

  2. I almost bought a new angels hat the other day, and while staring at the $47 bill in my cart, I came to a realization that I don’t really want to live in a world where a basic baseball hat is $47. I mean, what the hell is that? Must have been 2009-2010ish where you could get a new era cap for $30. A $17 price increase over the course of 15 years is insane!!

I then came to the realization I don’t want to spend $47 on a baseball cap for a shitty baseball team, or even spend a dime on this team at all. I mean Arte has sucked the joy out of an entire fan base that had just come off of the most successful stretch in team history. Remember the ESPN piece “Best Organization in Sports” with Arte and vladdy on the cover. How did that organization immediately go on the longest playoff dryspell in North American professional sports and the laughing stock of baseball?

moral of the story? Idk really, I’m just really sick of the angels sucking ass.

You know I was wondering about him too.

As much as I don't want to encourage Tony's too blessed behavior by counting on him to show up at all, Chapman is solid at 3rd and would be a nice consistent bat in the lineup.

In fact if we could swapt him for Rendon (contract and all) for the forseeable future I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I’m down to add Chapman. He isn’t what he used to be but 15-20 homers and a .750ish OPS…. He adds good veteran depth to the infield and is insurance if Rendon does his annual disappearing act. It also keeps DH open for Rendon and Trout to cycle through.

I’m also still hoping we get Snell, even thought it seems everyone else here doesn’t want us to. His limited experience pitching deep into games doesn’t scare me off, if we could add another bullpen arm to the mix I think it sets the pitching staff up perfectly to absorb a few less innings out of the starter.

  4. I don’t think there is much pressure on anyone with the Angels this season. The expectation is 0, and I think most everyone in the media thinks it’s a 90-100 loss team and they should just cut bait and trade Trout.

As for O’hoppe what we really need is him to handle the pitching staff and guide them all to good seasons, that will be the key. The guy is going to hit

I’d prefer a difference maker in the rotation but if that wasn’t in the cards then Neris would have been my pick.

Agreed, with that being said if Arte could get over the bad pr by signing Bauer it would help a lot, imo.

Sure he’s into weird sexual shit, but he was cleared legally so idk, I say go for it if you don’t wanna pay Snell.

He did look very good in those AB and not over matched. I think Votto could help on a cheap contract as lefty off bench or DH. Nothing more than 4 to 5 mill for Votto and save money for other needs.

I’m assuming that’s why they signed Sano. In hopes of a vet 1st baseman taking the 1st base job and stashing Schaunel in AAA so he can prove he’s 100% ready for the job and also improve depth.

if they both play well Sano can cycle through DH at bats.

  7. I’ve said all offseason to build the hell out of the bullpen and then throw whatever is left at Snell if he’s still out there. Bullpen makes or breaks your season, and the Angels FO is usually too stupid to realize that. I believe they can muster enough offense out of Trout, Rendon, the young guys, etc health permitting, if the pitching holds up their end of the bargain.

the most frustrating thing to do is watch a game for 7 innings with your team cruising, bullpen comes in and blows it, game over. Feels like you wasted 3-4 hours of your life.

Even if all of those things happen, the Angels would still need healthy, productive years from Trout and Rendon, or they'll probably only improve by a handful of games over last year.  Snell essentially replaces Ohtani on the mound, Soler is a much less effective version of Othani at the plate.  Imanaga is likely an upgrade, but most folks seem to think he's more of a #3/4 than a top of the rotation guy.  Who the heck knows what the bullpen will end up being like at this point.

That’s why I said fringe playoff team…  also all of that was your opinion just like I had mine. I disagree with what you say, but it’s the hot stove thread so instead of saying your opinion is wrong,  I just keep it moving.

also, Snell had 58 more innings pitched than Ohtani in 23, and pitched more effective when it comes to a run prevention standpoint.  Why bother signing him though, we can’t replace Shohei.

Soler had an .853 OPS with 36 bombs and can play all 3 outfield positions. He can definitely help, when we had Rengifo filling in the outfield last year….

  9. If we can get Imanaga, Snell, and an outfielder like Soler so we can package Ward or Adell with a starting pitcher for 3rd base or bullpen help I might slightly buy into this being a fringe playoff team.

Snell , Imanaga, Sandoval, Detmers, Canning or Anderson with Silseth as depth is a pretty, pretty good rotation. Build a bullpen and the playoffs aren’t a pipe dream.

  10. I guess baseball is pointless to watch this year.

worst case scenario this offseason. It’s not that I wanted to give this contract to this guy, but the dodgers doing whatever the fuck they want is so crazy.

literally the only hope I have is for Arte to sell. Can’t wait to lost 90 games this year at the major league level and not develop the minor leagues. How long can a franchise be 25th-30th on prospect lists before they actually make some wholesome changes??

  11. There is not free agent or trade that is going to turn this roster into a good one this off season.

we are probably a 75 win team as it stand now and that’s about where it will stay. We will make some dumb moves that don’t pan out and if we are lucky maybe stay in the race until August before settling for 80 wins and missing the playoffs.

we shit the bed with Ohtani and any top free agent coming from Japan wouldn’t even think about the angels, so Yamamoto is a no go and if Snell even considers us, he will immediately become injured or suck. It is what it is, angels baseball for the past 15 years baby.

  12. Call me delusional with halo red glasses but, I think there’s an outside shot we make the playoffs this year. I’m not saying they Willl, just there’s a chance,

O’hoppe, Schanuel, Neto, Moniak, Adell are all young players capable of break outs. Trout, Rendon, Rengifo, Drury, Ward are veterans capable of carrying an offense, health permitting.

Rotation is young and full of potential, maybe no clear cut #1 but maybe a trade or FA signing solves that… Sandoval, Canning, Detmers, Silseth are some solid young starters capable of more than they have shown… Anderson is capable of not being ass. Bullpens are so volatile they could randomly be great with the young flamethrowers we have.
