I remember jumping and fist pumping when we signed Ohtani, and then spring training came and he looked awful and I was worried, we all know how that concluded. Close 2nd for me was the Pujols signing.
side note: Torii Hunter was a huge surprise and of my all time favorite angels so that has to be right up there also. Still remember where I was and what I was doing when I saw the news break

This place has not only made me a more informed, more reasonable (thanks strad and Lou), and better overall fan. It’s a great website and while the angels sucking for the last 10-15 years has been difficult, it’s still fun to come here and read, talk, argue, laugh, etc.
it’s a great community

I'm looking at Snell's numbers last year. He pitched 6 or more innings 20 of his starts last year. The narrative of he only goes 5 is not factual.
Thanks for looking that up. I didn’t watch last season as intensely as I always do and even I thought Snell couldn’t pitch deep into games. I think Tampa gave him that reputation

Skaggs dying was obviously horrible. Same as Adenhart. There are worse things
But damn, looking back at the past year... it's hard to not see this as the worst "period" in team history.
Moreno finally decides to sell... then changes his mind. That was the warning of things to come...
We finally aquire depth. Then it all gets hurt. Including our recently acquired blue chip catching prospect.
And the guy we traded to get him turns in a good year, hits home runs in the playoffs
We trade from our shit farm to aquire guys who end up not helping out, at all. Like literally at all. Giolito... dear Lord did that one backfire on us.
Everyone hurt...
... and when we finally show signs of some life and hope, the team makes moves and immediately goes on a losing streak that crushes the season.
And all you had left to watch (aside from some interesting young guys) was Shohei.
.... then he gets hurt and doesn't finish the season, while he was on a possible course to break Judge's new HR record
Season ends with a whimper.
Ohtani bails to the probably worst case scenario team for Angel fans. And signs this ridiculous contract that absolutely helps the Dodgers... so we don't even get the hope of him crippling them going forward like the Pujols deal did to us.
Now we're left with literally nothing. And the team is far worse off with not a lot of hope (like suddenly freed up from a shit contract, exciting farm, etc). Moreno still the owner.
Like I said, people dying is far worse. But this is pretty much the magnum opus of pathetic from a franchise that has plenty to choose from.
Not just Ohtani leaving, but how literally everything that could go wrong this past year did.
Cherry on top is that roughly within the same time frame of the past year, we got to watch MLB adoringly cheer Albert Pujols suddenly find his old self and reach the HR milestone.
And we were paying him as he did it.
Holy shit its been a bad decade.
And that’s the short version. lol
it’s been very very tough to get excited for sports for the past 10+ years. The Angels are my main source of entertainment and I feel like I’ve been growing away from it for a while now. I’m having a hard time getting the motivation to be excited for this upcoming season, and I might need to just sit this one out.

Somewhere in a parallel universe the Angels never hire Jerry Dipoto and end up with Andrew Friedman as Director of player of operations after Tony Reagins got fired. He gets along great with Scioscia, and the Angels turn into a west coast powerhouse. Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani are in the middle of a successful run of 10-15 straight years of playoff appearances, Scioscia is masterful and we never have to be subjected to these nightmarish last 15 years.
I keep wondering where rock bottom is, and while I know signing Shohei didn’t make sense for the Angels, it still sucks A LOT knowing he’s with the stupid ass dodgers. When does this team start its upward projectory? I’m so tired of being dog shit and the laughing stock of baseball in every aspect.

This is really strange lol the dude played 6 years an hour up the road for a team that literally goes by the name Los Angeles. 2 MVP awards, a rookie of the year…. What in the fuck lol

I was really close to buying the cream ohtani jersey last year but glad I didn’t. Guess I can give the Ohtani shirts to my kids to use as PJs, don’t wanna listen to the jackass dodgers fans in public if I wear Ohtani angels gear. It sucks enough to be an angels fan, as is.
I understand the decision but im more mad about it than I thought I would be. Seems like kind of a bitch move on his part. Whatever it’s just baseball I guess, I have more shit to worry about in life.

6 years of kiddie gloves, building a roster around him, doing whatever the fuck he needed, 2 Tommy John surgeries, huge gaps of struggling as the DH, and then shits on the Angels by signing with the Dodgers.
honestly I knew he would sign with the dodgers but I feel pretty bitter that he did the angels this way. Have fun with the 70 million dollar DH next year.

Great the team with thd highest payroll in baseball and Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Clayton Kershaw, Max Muncy, Walker Buehler etc. gets the best player of our generation.
Baseball has become less and less fun to watch over the past 5-10 years but this kinds of seals it. Feels a lot like Kevin Durant to the Golden State warriors. Super lame of him to take the easy route and chase the money, in my opinion. And I get that he deserved to make his own choice, but damn.

Japanese DH signs with the Giants!..........
Might scratch Shohei to SF off the list? Since he only can DH for the majority if not all of this season.

When the hell did David Fletcher become serviceable?

Spring training is a blast and honestly more fun than regular season games. Like James said get there early and hit the practice fields, you get super close to major leaguers and minor leaguers. You will run into some top prospects and coaches.
Tempe is a super nice area, Arizona State University is right around the corner so it’s buzzing with nightlife in the downtown area and a super nice vibe.

Imagine trying to survive on that salary in Orange County…. Yikes

To be a playoff team?
2 reliable Starting pitchers.
an entire bullpen from top to bottom.
2 major league outfielders, potentially 3 with Ward’s injury.
a 3rd baseman.
a catcher to either start or backup O’hoppe. Still not sold on the bat.
with the way Neto finished the year with the bat, potentially a Shortstop.
A 1st baseman with pop.Basically, it’s not looking likely.

Props to you guys for sticking through this tragedy of a season.
I haven’t looked at a pre game lineup in a month

I voted dodgers but I’m so burnt out from this team, I don’t think I care anymore. Whatever happens, the angels will continue to be a shit show and that guarantees he won’t be back in Anaheim. I know that for sure.

We are legitimately the worst organization in all of sports at this point.
it’s a literal nightmare. Could never have imagined this in a million years in 2009/2010.

It sucks and I think about how much it sucks he joined the dodgers quite often. It doesn’t help living in So Cal and having tons of dodgers friends, they are all super happy and i can’t help but to feel a little heart broken one of my all time favorite players won’t wear Angels red. He just looked right in an Angel uniform.
Like has been said, can’t blame him, Arte has driven this organization into the ground and continues to (the Clint hurdle thing comes off as petty and cheap). It would be nice if he showed that he has learned his lesson and we are changing our ways , but I guess not. If I was a free agent I wouldn’t sign with the Angels, as big as a fan of them as I am. They suck ass right now across the board. I think we will have a tough time competing with Arte as the owner and can only hope he chooses to sell to competent owners that care about a winning culture.
