  1. Oh Arte…

All the bad press over the last 10 years, mostly brought on by penny pinching and running this once great franchise into the ground.

why not just shell out the cash to make nice facilities that entice players to want to play for this franchise?

it’s a constant cycle of embarrassing media coverage. If you don’t want to invest in the infrastructure of the team, just sell it to someone that will.

What if they keep the A on the cap, so people can still call them the A's, but instead of the Athletics they change the name to the Las Vegas Aces? Can't believe nobody has thought of that.

Oh and also, they should keep the elephant mascot/logo out of respect for the all-you-can-eat buffets littered throughout the city.

This gotta be like the 15th time this has been said in this thread.

The Las Vegas Aces is the Las Vegas WNBA team. They aren’t going to have 2 sports franchises in the same city with the same team name.

For living here 18 years you shouldn't have a problem understanding!

Since the turn of the century (2000)

First mayor Oscar Goodman and then his wife Carolyn Goodman have made it their priorities to revitalize downtown.

I know this for a fact because i was present for press conference announcing proposed plans to build a downtown sports arena where Oscar spoke.

Every attempt by the Goldmans to bring in  sports franchise was to bring it downtown.

If I am not mistaken the Diamobdback overture was to being them to Henderson. And not negotiated  by the Goodmans

The Mayor of Las Vegas has no say....none..whether a sports facility is built outside of Las Vegas city limits and this includes Henderson.

She lobbied the A's hard to get them to use the Cashman Field as the site of their new home.

The A's rejected.  Her, in a pissed off mood,  suggest they are not serious and should stay in Oakland.

She backtracked on that statement almost immediately.  The fact is the franchise owners, the hotel executives, and the Culinary Union all want these facilities on or near the strip.  In fact i wouldnt ve surprised the leagues want them on the strip as well.

Butthurt by being rejected she made the dumbass statement using a narrative by those who do not want the A's to move.

There is no advantage to the city government of Las Vegas. Or the Mayor of the sites or outside the city limits.

Think what you want, but the explanation of her comment is pretty simple to understand.

You are very passionate about this subject apparently lol

Anyways 90% of what you said isn’t factual and is just you coming up with your own spin on it. Sure they offered Cashman field, A’s didn’t want it, now all of a sudden she’s bitter about it and doesn’t want the A’s in the city? lmao. Don’t you think it has everything to do with the poor location, 3 sports teams already in the city in addition to F1(all in the same area), and the amount of congestion it’s going to cause at that end of the strip. Not to mention the A’s have continued to show Las Vegas and Oakland they have no direction as a franchise.

anyways weird thing to even argue about lmao

This has been my argument all off-season.

The problem is how do you kick Marisnick and Hicks to the curb when they have been crushing it this spring?

Im not saying they should be given a job based on a spring training performance in lieu of a potential 2 WAR player, but man Perry has some decisions to make.

Hopefully they can find a way to not lose Adell.

The draft pick loss lasts until this year's draft--so July 14th.

The Angels would lose their 2nd pick--but it doesn't go to the Padres or anything like that. The Angels just lose it. And mlb.com is correct regarding the compensation the Padres would get if someone signs Snell before July 14th.

Thank you for the info. That’s what I was understanding regarding the draft pick compensation, thank you for confirming.

As much as I dislike the money it is going to take to sign Snell, there's no doubt that it improves the rotation substantially - and not just in the rotation itself, but the depth. Meaning, not only does it replace Silseth with Snell in the rotation, but it replaces whichever shmuck is their first depth starter in AAA (Plesac, Rosenberg, Daniel, Mederos) with Silseth.

In other words, signing Snell would mean:

    Snell/Silseth

    instead of...

    Silseth/Plesac

Is there a cutoff date for when you would have to give draft pick compensation for signing Snell? Or is it if you sign him at any period in 2024 you will forfeit a draft pick?

also on mlb.com it says the padres will receive a draft pick in the 4th round or later since they exceeded the CBT last year, but later it says the angels would forfeit their second highest draft pick. So would the angels lose their 2nd or their 4th?

    anybody else with insight?

Until everything is official, isnt it best for the politician to say "hey I hope you guys work it out in your current home"? Once they are actually 100% coming to Vegas she will flip the script. Sorry if you are falling for some political speech a few times and now think they are being honest and forthright.

No. I’ve never seen a mayor come out and straight up say you’re better off not coming to a professional sports team attempting to move to a new city.

I thought you were a Vegas Native?  Am I wrong?

    Let get some thing clear!

Cashman Field is in one of the worst areas of metro area.  The strip is the most famous areas of the metro area!

The franchises did not want to be near down town but they wanted to be near the strip.  I hope that isnt hard to figure out!

Both mayors Goodman (hubby and wife) want to revitalize downtown.  However, the sport franchises are marketing tourist as well as locals. Thus they want to be near the best resorts.  Which is the strip.  Goodmans had no choice in the area.  You comment like they had a say where venues go!

    1. TMobil was open by private money.  The money came from MGM and Casino magnet Adelson.  Those chose TMobile bevause it was the best location to market the team.

    2. Allegiant location was also chosen to be near the strip.  Both Golden Knights and Raiders get corporate marketing $$$ because the MGM resorts surround both locations.

    3. Of Course the T&M Center  would be on the UNLV campus.  Should they have put it downtown instead on the college Campus?

    4. Not sure what you are trying to say about the airport.  Or the Speedway which is so big in real rstate that it had to be on the outskirts of town.

    5.  The Mayor of Las Vegas has no say to cobstruction in Clark County.  The county Commission does.  And the state legislature

From an economic standpoint Cashman field makes sense.  It would be cheaper to build and for A's.  It has the  infrastructure.  However, location is not ideal.

The best economic decision would have been having the stadium built in Summerland.  Houghes corporation has offered the land rent free.  That would make more economic sense.

However the best decision for marketing standpoint is the strip.  The franchise owners know that.  That is why they insisted a location near the strip.

These arguments have been well publicized in the Las Vegas Review Journal so I am not maling it up in thin air as you say it.

Writing entire books to justify your wrong take lol what I’m saying is pretty simple… Las Vegas doesn’t want the A’s and the A’s don’t make sense in Vegas.

What does being a resident have to do with anything? I have not heard from a single resident, business owner, mayor, etc in Vegas that is welcoming of the A’s. Especially with the location they chose for the stadium, and it has nothing to do with tax revenue and everything to do with the location not making sense logistically. If you were a local like you keep going on about, you would know that it’s an awful location for a stadium. Traffic will be SO bad…. The raiders can’t even get a good crowd and they only have 8 or 9 home games, and a very die hard fan base, and that basically goes for every location they could find in Vegas.

Parking won’t be an issue because nobody will be going lol

Maybe because the wuote infers things that doesnt necessarily exists.

Goodman wanted the syadoum site in downtown Las Vegas Cashman field.  That site is in the city of Las Vegas.  The Tropicana site is in Clark County.  The city would not make any tax revenue.  She was butthurt that the A's didnt want the Cashman site.   And don't blame them.

Allegiant, T-Mobile, UNLV stadium, LV Motor Speedway, The Airport, and 1/2 of the strip is in Clark County. I think you’re making your own argument up out of thin air lol if she had that concern why didn’t it keep the raiders or The Aces/The Golden Knights from getting brand new stadiums in Clark county?

That isn't what she was saying.

"I thought, this does not make sense, and so why is it happening?" Goodman said. "And then I thought, well, because they really want to stay in Oakland, they want to be on the water, they have that magnificent dream. Yet they can't get it done."

When the podcast hosts asked Goodman if it would be a "good thing" if the A's do complete their relocation to Las Vegas, she responded by saying: "I personally think they've gotta figure out a way to stay in Oakland and make their dream come true."

I mean, not sure how you can read those quotes and come to a different conclusion. But whatever lol

It’s an opinion, and reasonable people can disagree. I’m not here to make fun or insult anyone. I’m just laying out reasons why Aces wouldn’t be a good name if the A’s had to change it. As to the relative merits of the NBA v WNBA, the NBA no longer has fundamentals or defense. Double dribbling go uncalled, and it’s just an individual shooting contest now. I’ve been a Lakers fan since the Showtime days, and it’s not nearly as interesting now as it used to be as a game. Anyway, I’ll leave it at that since this is more about how the A’s released their renderings. I’ve laid out why I think that would likely not work either in other posts.

I agree with most of what you say. Aces wouldn’t work, they probably would stay with Athletics or need to rebrand the entire team which would probably be best, in my opinion.

Im also skeptical they could draw decent crowds for 81 games even if they were playing well. Las Vegas is pretty dead on the strip mid week if there aren’t conventions and things going on, and I think there a lot more thrilling things to do in Vegas than watch a baseball game unless it’s the playoffs, or you’re a huge baseball fan.
