here's my wish list: do whatever you think is best in FA, but don't F*ck up all the hard work you've done and trade either adell or marsh.
starring in the arizona fall league is a better indicator of major league success than being the #1 overall draft pick. both of these guys are killing the league this year. it would be a catastrophic mistake to let either one of these guys go. don't F*ck this up, eppler.
 

Wish list:
1). Healthy players.
2). Adding two starters to the roster.  Forget the names.  Just be two guys I would be glad to hand the ball to in the postseason.
3). One offensive addition that is a clear upgrade from 2019.
4). Adell arrives by storm and wins rookie of the year.
4). Maddon managing.

I never once said he’d go cheap. I just don’t think at the end of the day he will go much higher than his avg payroll salary he’s been at over the last couple years. I think if he does the highest he will go will be 180 but I think that’s it. I guess we will see what he does this offseason. Just because he doesn’t sell doesn’t mean he’s not smart. These teams continue to go up in value. Just because your house went up 100k in value doesn’t mean you automatically have to sell. He’s making a profit every single year and he has write offs. He’s a very smart business man who’s investment has gone up an insane amount from when he bought it. People don’t continue to throw stupid money at teams to lose money. There’s obviously a reason people are buying these teams at enormous amounts. Maybe one day these prices will fall but it doesn’t look like it’s happening any time soon. Kansas City Royals just sold for what?

he's going to opt out the same way justin upton did. he'll add more money and years to what is, essentially, his existing contract with the nationals.

something that never seems to be said around here is that every year people start talking about how arte is going to expand the budget, "spend for the right player", and yet it never happens. i'm sure we'll bring in some pitching, but i'm the type to go with history. i predict the angels budget will end up extremely similar to where it always is.

all the stuff white did with the machines that show grip, spin rate, throwing from 90 feet instead of 60, yada yada yada... i'd hope that this is implemented to even greater degree and that the only change is in the ability to both communicate it effectively to the players and to know when a player is not listening or cooperating. the article about doug white that had the players just tuning him out should have resulted in an ass kicking by white and ausmus. i think this is some of the reasoning behind bailing on everybody after one year.

I think it may just be a communication thing.  He wasnt able to get through to guys -- my guess is they continue to push those ideas but try to find someone better able to get them across -- keep in mind they have been doing this stuff in the minors too and guys showed much greater success there..   

I genuinely believe Ausmus' wishy washy no personality persona might be why he's on his way out too.   

i couldn't stomach the discord in here anymore, so i had to take a break from the board, but i wanted to acknowledge that mike meant a great deal to this organization and while it is time for a change, he brought it out of the abyss. also, that press conference was really touching. i thought he handled himself very well.

I think I mentioned in another thread that Ward has actually made steady progress with the bat over his minor league career.  He was a rookie ball stud as most college picks are from the first couple rounds.  He had a poor 2016, good 2017 and took off in 2018.  
The tough thing about Ward is that he's a much different player than people expected and on top of that, he's got that war room hoopla BS attached to him.  
He's very athletic and is a much better contact guy than he's given credit for.  He's got great plate discipline.  It's actually the in game power that hasn't shown up as much.  Yet he's got 20+hr raw power potential.  He's also fast.  Not blazing by any means but 15-20 sb. fast.  And he's obviously athletic.  
We cut Jam Jones a ton of slack because he transitioned from OF to 2b this year and his bat clearly suffered.  Maybe because of that and maybe not.  
Taylor Ward suddenly because a 3bman after never seeing time there in a game and ended the season with a .977 ops in AA/AAA with 12 total errors at his new position.  And in a short span in the majors showed major league avg defense.  That's a pretty damn impressive learning curve.  
 

I had pretty much given up on Ward, especially after they moved him off of catcher.  But he had such a spectacular year last year that I think you had to take notice of it.  I think if you just looked at his stat line last year once he got called up it’s easy enough to just shrug and suspect he won’t amount to much.  On the other hand though, I think that if you watched the ABs he had for the Angels and if you read about all the work he’s done to create a major league swing.  Also, hearing him talk about it.  I think that you start to be a little more hopeful.  I’m cautiously optimistic for Taylor.  I felt that he put good AB’s together last year.  I like his disciplined approach a lot.   And I think that the power is legit.  And while he definitely struggled at times.  I think that he also showed often enough that he was not overwhelmed.  Which is a thing that I think is easy enough to see.  I thought he responded well when it wasn’t going great.  Even if it didn’t immediately result in a big hit.  It often resulted in a strong disciplined AB.  Which is very important IMO. 
Anyway, if they don’t get Machado (we probably won’t obviously) I want to see Taylor get long, long look.  And I think he’s got a shot to be a pretty good player.
