I may be in the minority here. I can't agree with any of this.
While I miss the traditional aspect of a regular season and really miss not having a minor league season, having Baseball back on the TV and the airwaves with a hell of a shot at making the playoffs with it being expanded, I was super excited going into this season and still was up until recently when it appeared the team simply just doesn't have it.
There is plenty to root for still in hopes of preparing for next season as a fan. I watch now because we have some exciting players on the team and my interest now has shifted to the trade deadline and hopes of seeing some of our prospects play in September. I'm hoping to see Marsh, Detmers, C. Rodriguez and Yan, if not others.
I also disagree with Jeff Fletcher and others who think teams won't give up a top prospect for a 1 month rental. If the clock is ticking on Aug 31st and you have a chance to get a solid player to help bolster your chances to get to the playoffs and succeed in the playoffs I believe they'll do it. This is why I think guys like La Stella, Goodwin, Bundy, Simmons, Castro and maybe even a guy like Buttrey will be dealt and other club's top 10 prospects will be going our way!

If Eppler makes any of those deals that are in the article you're referring to he's pretty much Dipoto'n us right before his departure.
    Those are awful trades.

WE DON’T NEED NEW UNIFORMS. PERIOD.

It’s just a dumb convo. Now if we had uniforms like the old Brewers jerseys or the Miami Marlins old jerseys then yeah maybe there needs to be a change. There is nothing wrong with the uniforms we currently have. They’re simple, sleek and effective. Casual baseball fans and non fans alike associate the Angels with that logo and those jerseys. We are creating a culture.... and we have been our most successful with this current design. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

I want the Angels to have a blue uniform I’ll take a blue hat as well. I like changing it up with the looks. I love the new Rams colors and helmets. I think a change every 10 years is about right to keep things interesting.

doc do you seriously believe that there's any GM out there that wouldn't love to put 2020 champions on their resume? you think they're worried about if the other gm's will "respect" their championship? that's an absurdity.
angel fans would kill for a 2020 championship.

I'd rather keep Marsh over Adell honestly.

If we trade literally anyone, it better be slanted in our favor.
They are the ones in need and were not getting anything significant for a month of anyone in a shortened season.   The last thing we need to do is trade for some more toolsy guys and trade away productive major leaguers.  Whats the point?  More question marks?
If we give up the piece someone else needs, they need to pay for it... period.

I don't think the 25 games is a big deal.Teams acquire rentals for playoffs.  Not sure if adding another 20 games makes a trade more valuable.  All that matters is having that player for the run.

I thought I read you could still include a "player to be named later" in a trade and they wouldn't have to be in the 60 player pool? Given the absence of minor leagues and the season almost over, wouldn't be a big deal to get a player not in the 60 player pool?....

I would trade Bundy right now for some high end prospect before we get Bundy’d.

MLBTraderumors just complies information from all sources.  I think it would be more accurate to say this is coming from Bob Nightengale, who is the person who wrote the article they're citing.

I'd trade Bundy if the Angels could get a higher upside pitching prospect for him that is relatively close to being ML-ready.

I hate to say it since we finally have a good starting pitcher but I say sell high.  I just don't think Bundy's THIS good.  How about anderson from the Braves?

You were worried? It was a bit strange I guess, but I don't know why anyone would worry considering his track record and the small  amount of time he wasnt doing well.
I say it every year, but I don't know how some baseball fans make it through a season.

While Eppler has not made a ton of in season trades and I am quite sure not enough for a lot of people around here including myself, the ones he has made have all been solid when he is basically selling.
Kinsler for Buttrey, no issue with that one.
Maldonado for Sandoval, pretty damn good.
When he bought mid season, he got us Stassi that initially everyone hated, but seems that most have come around now that he has hit a bit.
So now he has pieces he could trade, he has La Stella, Simmons and Castro on expiring contracts.  He has Bundy and Goodwin that have 1-2 years of control.
I personally would hold on to Bundy unless you get an offer you can’t refuse, which to me would be a couple of Sandovals with maybe more of a proven track record.
Additionally I don’t think it is in Eppler’s nature to make desperation moves in an effort to keep his job.  He has never come across as desperate.  I will also say if you see a bold trade, like a trade that includes Adell or Fletcher then I think that is an indication that Eppler is coming back.

I agree with all of this until your last bit.  While you're right that he's never come across as desperate, it could easily because he never truly felt like his job is in jeopardy.  For the first time in his tenure, it actually is now.  It could easily change his approach to this deadline.

Is there any way to actually prove this? Seems like a narrative to support your position.

But even then, all those guys made the playoffs more than Trout has up until this point and Trout is better.

In truth, probably the best path for us moving forward is to move on from Eppler once this season ends and hire someone from either the Dodgers or the Rays.
The thing we greatly lack, IMO, isn't so much that we need THIS player or THAT player, but rather, we are missing the infrastructure that those teams have that builds a long-term, sustainable, winning team.  The Dodgers, Rays, and probably now the Giants (Farhan's influence) are great at draft, developing, and finding talent, such that they don't really need to rely on signing a bunch of players to be successful.
Look at the Giants, who we just faced - Yaz, Slater, Solano.  Who are these guys?  The Giants found them in the dumpster bin, and Yaz/Solano have been two of baseball's greatest players this year, in terms of fWAR.  The Giants may not be good this year, but Zaidi inherited an absolute mess.  Their farm is much better, most of their big contracts are about to expire, and they have young kids who are playing very, very well.
We need a President of Baseball Operations who has that same vision and comes from the "Friedman tree," so to speak.  We have some fantastic pieces in place, but we need considerably more help, and we really do need to build a much better farm system.
I feel bad for Eppler, because he did inherit a bit of a mess, but my feeling is he's just average at what he does, and at this point, I'm ready to move on to someone who can build a winner today, tomorrow, and into the future.
