Archie is 15 months old now and quite big. Last we weighed him was 2 months ago and he was 120 lbs already.
 

Decided to share a couple photos of my buddy, Scout. Like I said, similar coloring to Sully’s dog. The fourth one down is from the first night I brought him home at six months old. Others are just random shots from the last year or so. (And don’t be worried by the pitt and bulldog in the one pic... Those three played together a lot at my old place and never were aggressive with each other.)

i find shit like this legitimately worrisome. I would consider myself left of center, but this is a bad ideological path to do down. Kind of a snake eating its own tail sort of thing.

Agreed about defensive stats for catchers being a bit unreliable. A lot of them are based on factors outside of the catcher’s control as well. That said, Mathis has never really looked like an elite defender to me (super subjective I know), and his offensive skill set doesn’t merit such a long career. So... could it be that people just like him? Like pitchers enjoy working with him, he’s good in the clubhouse, coaches like having him around, etc...? I mean no team really expects a ton of value from their backup catcher, so why not get a guy that is serviceable in that role that your coaching staff and pitchers will have a solid relationship with?

It's the sample size. This isnt a guy who has been a picture of health. In 7 seasons, he has pitched a full season just once. I wouldn't give a guy like that 70-80 million because, chances are, he will continue not to be someone who can pitch a full season.
To be clear, I like the guy and would be happy to have him join the team. I just think he is going to get colossally overpaid given his track record.

If you are on the left it's likely you won't like most of Shapiro's views and that's fair. Our problem today is we get so caught up arguing with people and trying to defend "our guy" that we don't see our own BS. As stated above, I like Shapiro because he will call out anyone he doesn't agree with or does not carry "true" conservative values. Many in the Republican party no longer have core conservative values and he has no problem criticizing them for it. It's refreshing because you know his beliefs are more genuine. Most of the other pundits on both the right and left are nothing more than cheerleaders for their team. If more on the right were like him it would be trouble for the left. Fortunately for the left the right still has the likes of Coulter and Hannity. Those are the ones that give the conservatives a bad name.

Little did they know how common that sort of thing would become for Vlad. Really the best bad ball hitter ever. It was so fun getting to see him play every day when he was with the Angels. When he was locked in and seeing the ball well I would’ve taken him over anyone else in the game, mainly because he just wouldn’t let anyone pitch around him when he was hot.
i remember watching a game with my cousin once, and he hit a ball way up and in off the plate into right-center for a double in the first inning. My cousin looked at me after that hit and said very matter of factly, “Nobody’s getting him out tonight.” I think he ended up 4-4 with a HR that night. That’s the way I’ll always remember Vlad. Once you could tell he was locked in, you knew nobody was gonna stop him that day, or that week, or whatever stretch it might have been.

The show was like 80% great, but all the deus ex machina stuff the writers pulled kinda ruined it. It’s like they would just write themselves into some crazy spider web plot-wise, then have something come totally out of left field to wrap it all up. That always felt kinda frantic and lazy, which took away from most of the really solid writing and acting. I liked a lot of the music choices they used early on in the series too.

Honestly, Richards’ career at this point is starting to remind me a lot of Rich Harden. Tons of potential, filthy stuff, some dominant stretches... but just destroyed by injuries.

Any thoughts on Domingo Santana? Had a really good year in 2017, then the Brewers made him a 4th OF this year (seems like kinda got screwed on that one). He struggled not playing every day this year, and they just sent him down to AAA about a week ago I think. Could be a really good buy low guy if we’re willing to give him regular ABs.
