I definitely think it's an underrated album...but the best!?  Better than 80-85, No Control and Suffer?  No way!

no doubt a great album. Stranger than fiction is another that gets a lot of flack from the purists but I think it's one of their best.

Hey, I'm only exaggerating the melodramic script that Notti is trying to pass off for reality in whatever day time soap opera he thinks he's living in.  He posts a link of some 11 year old kid who brings a gun to school like it's a proof positive indication that children in general are turning to the dark side, when in reality this recent adolescent "crime wave" is simply evidence against an infinitesimal number of children who were inspired by the massive media exposure heaped on the back of some original idiot for doing something so stupid and void of talent that even the most insipid copy cat criminal could emulate.  For whatever reason--maybe their parents ignored them or something--these boys decided that the attention they craved was worth taking a terrible risk.  This isn't just me making up theories.  Anybody who knows anything about the psychology of copy cat crimes knows that the media shoulders a large portion of the blame for producing them.  Or we could just pretend that children in general are turning evil.  After all, the latter concept would boost ratings.  I haven't really received a decent explanation (or any explanation, now that I think of it) from the media or from melodramatists like Notti in regards to why they think these crimes are happening.  All I ever hear are things like "what is wrong with this country!" and "what in the name of God is going to happen next!?"  I'd love--and I mean love--to hear either of them try to rationalize their concerns into a cogent sentence or two.

Uhhh, the cops are in a different position than the math teacher: they have weapons to defend themselves; I'm also assuming that they weren't standing point blank in front of the kid, like the math teacher was...they were probably wielding a shield of some sort.   So why couldn't they have shot the kid in the leg?

Let's not get carried away by all this yellow journalism swirling around trying to paint pictures of homicidal adolescent boys running amuck in our communities.  Just because it's all they talk about on the "news," that doesn't necessarily mean that this stuff is going on all around us.   It's this type of over-sensitivity to fear mongering that's going to wind up placing shotguns in the hands of school security guards.

When will people realize that this is just the media's way of distracting people from the real issues, e.g., the Wall Street takeover, money in politics, the findings of Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden, etc?

Congress is working day and night to uproot and destroy the constitutional framework set up by our founding fathers.  And here we are worried about a Children of the Corn sequel.

You and I have discussed this previously. You don't like the stereotypical Laker fans. Unfortunately, you group all Laker fans no matter what in that category. I admit there are Laker fans that are stupid and act like idiots. But when most Clipper fans taste a small bit of success, they retaliate with the same reaction that idiot stereotypical Laker fans do. It's a vicious cycle.

Absolutely not.  He plays in a little league stadium.  Granted, he's a really good player, but there's no way he will put up the same numbers in Anaheim that he has over his career in New York.  The only thing the Angels would prove if they sign Cano is that they haven't learned anything.

Taylor, I found the article you posted very insightful.  Mr. Funk impressed me with his ingenuity and open-mindedness.  I completely agree with him on almost everything he said--even partially in regards to his concern over government regulation of the private sector.  Nothing could be dumber or more racist than hiring people based on the color of their skin.  I can see why employers are "living in a state of fear" when it is so easy for the EEOC board to point the finger with one hand and wag the discrimination card with the other.  But this whole issue is two-fold, and I think the article misses an important point.

The reason that Obamacare is good for Mr. Funk's business and bad for America is, according to the article, because "ObamaCare imposes new mandates and penalties on companies with more than 50 full-time employees—and even those working 30 hours a week are considered full-time."  So in essence businesses are now more inclined to prefer temporary workers to permanent full-time employees to avoid paying penalties.  But the penalties aren't intended to strike fear into the souls of business owners, like the article would lead us to believe. The penalties were put into legislation because the United States is the only industrialized country that doesn't offer its populace universal health care. It had always been--until recently--understood that a worker would receive health coverage in exchange for full-time work: but over the last decade or so many of these benefits have been getting cut.  More and more full-time workers are losing their benefits.  Consequently, the businessmen aren't the only ones "living in a state of fear."  It's a two way street.  Is Obamacare the best way to solve the problem?  Hell no.  But we live in a democracy, where diametrically opposing forces dictate the terms of our laws.  I'm not thrilled about the bill either; I'm sure there are a million scandalous riders and flaws in the wording of it; but as a hard-working, uninsured--yet full-time employed--worker myself with a screwed up knee, I'm glad to know that one day I'll be able to have surgery without having to take out a $20,000 loan.

In short, I can see both perspectives.  Government intervention is not always the right way to go.  In this case, however, I think it is the lesser of two evils, because most employers aren't as generous as Mr. Funk.  Something clearly needed to be done.  There's no excuse for 47,000 uninsured citizens to die every year in the richest country in the world--even if it means cutting into the sacred pie and redistributing a little wealth.

I don't think the real issue is someone "calling out" the individuals behind this or any other attack. Not that it solves anything, but whatever floats your boat.

It's when people try to take those individuals and make wide sweeping generalizations based on those individuals that you run into problems.

And that's exactly what this thread, or the previous "Religion of Peace!!!!1111!!!" thread we were so lucky to have is.

The guy is arguing in favor of worker wages--not welfare checks.  Nobody can deny that inflation is out of control.  I bought a used book online that was priced new at $12 in 2001; the same book is now $21 in stores.  Magazines are going for $10 now-a-days; ten years ago they were $5.99.  Minimum wage--and wages in general--have not kept up with inflation.  In the richest country in the world, there is no excuse for so many working families to be mired in poverty.  Again, I'm not making excuses for homeless people here.  That's a completely separate issue.  I just don't understand how so many Americans can be so fervently opposed to the idea of increasing the general welfare of the masses.  Just because somebody is pro-labor rights doesn't necessarily mean that they adhere to a communist economic philosophy.

I must admit that I am ignorant when it comes to Robert Reich.  I had never heard of him until today.  Maybe you guys know something that I don't.  But based on the video, I can't find anything wrong with what he said.

You're right.  I should have read the article thoroughly before posting it on the board.  I read the "anti-semite" bit on the ESPN bottom line, during the Red Sox/Yankees game, and just assumed that it was recent.  Seems like old news to be posting on today's bottom line; but, in the end, I take full responsibility for my actions.  I made a mistake, and I won't make it again.

I'd like to apologize to my friends, family, and anybody else who was hurt by my shoddy journalism.  But most importantly, I want to apologize to my fellow board members, the guys who aren't cutting corners, or pasting articles without reading them through to the end.  This game is hard enough to play without posters feigning knowledge, or fabricating the truth to gain an edge.  So I ask you, the AW message board crew, once more, for your forgiveness. Tomorrow marks the beginning of a new day, a new me, a new you...and hopefully, by the end of our careers...a new era, that we will all be able to look back on...with pride.  Thank you very much.
