I say we should keep those Rondons in our pockets. This team does not have a WS in it. If we make a deal we should be jettisoning Wilson's salary and/or getting solid nucleus guys like Betts, who could make an impact next year and beyond.

If the supreme court can interpret every other amendment in whatever manner it sees fit, why can't it do the same with the second amendment. Can't the right to bear arms be construed merely to allow people to own single-shot guns (which, if I am not mistaken, is all that was around when the second amendment was drafted)? So wouldn't it be perfectly constitutional to ban all other guns, even including simple handguns? I sure wouldn't be opposed to that.

I have a manufacturing client moving to Texas at the end of this year. Labor is cheaper, as is land/facilities. 100+ jobs will be lost from L.A. But if you heard Jerry Brown's comments after Toyota left for Texas, these company moves have nothing to do with the labor/legal landscape in California. Talk about just not getting it.

wopphil reacted to Reveille1984 in Orange County Register: Cron wastes no time making an impact after demotion to Triple-A Salt Lake
I really don't see the high upside with Cron.  He's going on his fifth year in the minors after supposedly being a polished college bat, yet his last standout offensive season was in A ball three years ago.  He doesn't get on base, doesn't play defense, is slow as dirt and his live game power isn't good enough to make up for his other issues.  3% walk rate and a .239 BA in 350+ big league at bats.  He's like a less athletic version of Trumbo with even worse plate discipline.

We don't have to give up on him necessarily, but I doubt he will ever be a regular contributor to the big league team.  With the power shortage in today's MLB he will probably have some value in the AL if he can put together a .250/.300/.400 season with 20+ HR's, but that is probably the ceiling for him from what I've seen.  Guys that swing a lot and don't have pitch recognition generally don't fare too well against major league pitching, especially as a bat only player.

This will happen more and more. Then people will cry "where did all our jobs go."
I am not saying the minimum wage shouldn't be increased. I really have no idea how it compares to historical levels, and I do believe there should be a government imposed minimum.
But the people who think this us going to help raise others out of poverty are either ignorant (the people demanding the "living wage") or preying on the ignorant (the politicians who support this).

that's not it at all, arch.

this whole $15 an hour movement is a false flag. if labor costs go up, then product costs will also go up. and if product costs go up, all of us are affected, and those wanting the wage increase are not going to gain much of anything. this is like spinning tires in the mud - they're not really making any progress.

I just honestly don't understand it. There are certain buzz words/phrases that cause a liberal to go crazy, and "Fox News" is one of them. If they hate it so much, don't watch it.
On the flip side, I don't get the right's hatred for CNN. Maybe I am just able to filter out the slant, but CNN doesn't seem skewed one way or the other to me.

he's 24 and struggling with control again at AAA.  He's had half a good season in his whole minor league career.  He's got to be close to being a minor league FA anyway.

What blows my mind is how unbelievably obsessed the left is with Fox news. Do they actually watch it, or do they just recite the talking points they hear about it? If the former, why do they watch something they hate so much? And if the latter, why are they so critical of something of which they aren't knowledgeable?

I'm responding to admiring Minh, who is responsible for millions of deaths and the advancement of an evil system. Tenacity, hard work, and loyalty can be good qualities, but should we really admire people who use those qualities for evil? It's like admiring a serial killer's ability to plan meticulously.

The second question is really meant to gauge whether you think all Western influence should be resisted equally. I think there are objectively good and bad ideas that are universal, and some that are neutral. We all agree that systematic rape, like what the Soviet Union perpetrated on Eastern Germany and ISIS is doing now and genocide are things that all nations should oppose. People disagree on other things.
