DW711 reacted to Adam in PercySquint's Memorial: November 22nd, 2014
Finally have an opportunity to post.
We had a great time last night. Nick & Laina & Avila, Eric, Eric Notti, Derek & Jessica, Jody & Brown Troy, Oracle, Slegnaac, Bruce and Farrah all showed. I hope I'm not forgetting anybody. We had way too much food and way too much booze. (I can't believe I'm saying that. Damn, I'm getting old.) Slegnaac took down the poker game with brilliant play.
I hadn't seen a lot of you for quite some time. It was really great to catch up with everyone and see some new faces as well.
Everyone was very generous. Stradling hooked up the In N Out, which was a huge hit. Notti brought a box of PercySquint Playing cards, which we'll all treasure. Bruce left behind a Saloon's worth of booze. Everyone was so gracious. Thank you all for coming out.
Also, due to the generosity of those who attended we raised $700.00 for Mike's grandkids!
Lastly, our community was given the honor of owning Mike's calling card - his chinaman hat. As a group we all loved the idea of having the hat encased in glass and making it the official annual softball tournament trophy, with the winning captain owning it for the year.

Excellent acting by Charlie Hunnam tonight.

DW711 reacted to JAHV76 in A's sign Pat Venditte
I'm shocked to hear about a switch pitcher in the bay area.

DW711 got a reaction from stormngt in Free Agency Market
A player who can pitch and hit at an elite level?!
Ruth would be making 50 mill a year, easy.

DW711 reacted to mancini79 in Free Agency Market
Ruth: 4yr/$100m. Teams will be nervous giving a player a long term deal because of his weight.
Williams: 5yr/$125m. He will be criticized for "calling out" the fans and media will label him "Not a team player".
Koufax: He would sign a 12 yr/$325m at the age of 25. He will then retire and walk away from the money at the age of 30.
Ty Cobb: Banned for life for beating a fan in a wheelchair who kept yelling "TY COBB SKUS!".

DW711 reacted to dimitrig in Billy Butler to the A's
Why do the Angels do this?
I'd rather have Butler at 3/$30M than Vernon Wells at 3/$65M. Oh, and we gave up a player in that deal!

DW711 got a reaction from ten ocho recon scout in Billy Butler to the A's
Really, there's no other 1b-dh type hitter out there on the market.
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/02/2015-mlb-free-agents.html
If you go through all those guys you have:
Butler
Morse (injury prone and inconsistent)
Ludwick (injury prone)
Hart (I don't know what the hell happened to him)
Willingham (probably retiring)
They needed a right handed hitter, they got one.
Yeah, I don't like him playing first and the contract...well...it's bad..but!
Aviles sucked, got 3.5 mill for one year
Burnett was worse, got 8.5 mill for one year
Cuddyer will be injured 1/2 the year. 2 years for 21.
Happ was below average...got 6.7 mill for one year
J.J. Hardy was awful. 3 years for 40 mill.
You get the idea.
They're ALL BAD!

DW711 reacted to Lou in Mets sign Michael Cuddyer

he only started 48 games last year and has averaged 89 starts over the last 3 seasons

DW711 reacted to wopphil in Mike Trout, Matt Shoemaker, and The Big Catorce Finalists for BBWAA Awards
I don't see why Scioscia doesn't deserve the award. He weathered injuries to Skaggs and Richards, an ineffective CJ Wilson and Josh Hamilton, and a horrible bullpen (the first half of the season at least), to win more games than any team in baseball. He should win the award unanimously.

DW711 got a reaction from Adam in So we're not signing anybody....
cool, Stephen Drew.
Hopefully he doesn't hit .176 again and field worse than Lowrie.

DW711 got a reaction from Jimmag in Would you have sent Gordon?
This is just another reason that you run out of the box.
Hunter Pence is gangly and a little weird...but he ALWAYS runs hard. Even if he is on 3rd and Belt hits a 390 foot fly ball to deep center where the outfield catches it on his heels...he still runs hard (even though he doesn't have to).
IF Gordon ran hard AND they didn't have that wuss rule that you couldn't truck the catcher...than I definitely would have sent him.
Another thing I would have done is pinch run Gore, Dyson or Colon.
A wild pitch, passed ball... hell, the 'distraction' that any would actually try to steal home?! Wouldn't all that be somewhat beneficial?

DW711 got a reaction from hats4bats in If the Giants win the World Series....
I'll say this...Madison Bumgarner is almost in the hall of fame, already. How he does in the World Series...just amazing. Bruce Bochy for not putting Lincecum in when it mattered AT ALL (not giving into fan peer pressure)..I'll give him credit for that, also.
With that said...take away every post seasons team number one starter ( that wasn't injured)...Lester, Weaver, Tillman, Kershaw, Wainwright, Zimmerman, etc etc...the Giants were out in five games if you take Shields off the Royals and Bumgarner off the Giants.
He carried San Francisco more than Jordan did the Bulls this post season.
Buster Posey? .246/.312/.246
