Mike Trout, Matt Shoemaker, and The Big Catorce Finalists for BBWAA Awards

Recommended Posts

Matt Shoemaker is one of the 3 finalists for AL ROY. Obviously won't win it over Abreu, but still nice to see him get recognition. Beat out Tanaka and Yordano Ventura for one of the finalist spots. It's him, Betances, and Abreu for the award

Everybody's favorite Mike Scioscia is one of the 3 finalists for AL MOY. It's between him, Buck Showalter, and Ned Yost

And to nobody's surprise, Trout is finalist for AL MVP award and is a lock to win it. The other finalists are Michael Brantley and Victor Martinez

I don't see how a DH can win a MVP award. That's like giving someone 1st place in a triathlon, even though they only did the swimming portion.

I coudl see it if they are much, much better offensively than anyone else in contention. For example, Bonds during his MVP years was not particularly good defensively. Had he been on an AL team all else equal he likely would have been DH and still won MVP.

This year though I'd say Martinez was only slightly better offensively compared to Trout, so Trout playing in a premium defensive position should be the tipping point.

People forget that Bonds in his MVP years could still steal bases. And while he was no Mike Trout in the outfield, he was never Nelson Cruz either.
