The ninth annual MLB Trade Rumors Top 50 Free Agents list is here!

This is the fourth year for our free agent prediction contest, which allows you to test your prognostication abilities against those of the MLBTR writing team as well as other readers.

1. Max Scherzer – Yankees. Scherzer is the best starting pitcher in a free agent market loaded with quality arms, a 30-year-old strikeout machine with a Cy Young award on his resume. Including the postseason, he tallied a 3.08 ERA in 461 1/3 innings spanning 2013-14. Clayton Kershaw’s seven-year, $215MM deal seems out of reach, as does its $30.7MM average annual value. A better target would be something closer to the total outlay the Yankees made last winter for Masahiro Tanaka: seven years, $175MM. Extension talks with the Tigers broke down in March after Scherzer rejected a six-year, $144MM offer...

Among the many possibilities, I could see the Angels being players for Kuroda, LaRoche, and Butler.

Kuroda is they trade Kendrick for prospects.

LaRoche if they free up salary and use him as a platoon bat with Cron.

Butler if they package Cron and Kendrick together for pitching.

LaRoche is an excellent defensive 1bman....why would he want to be a platoon DH?

He'd platoon with Cron, at 1B and DH. Pujols plays 1B but will be DHing more and more. Right now Cron is set for full time DH and 1B duties, but if they wanted to take advantage of LaRoche's ability against RHP he'd split time in the 1B/DH role with Cron.

I wanted Laroche instead of Pujols. Their numbers have been pretty similar since Pujols signed here.

Why are we constantly cauldling Albert Pujols? Platoon really? Why can't he play a full season at 1B? Cal Ripken Jr played 161 games at 3B at age 37. Seems like they have to constantly adjust the lineup around Albert.

Is it not enough that they had to clear the deck by moving Morales and Trumbo to accommodate Albert? Man up Pujols.

Ok A-Gon started 153 games at 1B last season. Again why can't Pujols play a full season at 1B?

There's such thing as keeping a player fresh. He played an entire season last year, he just happened to DH some games. By the way, there's a reason you said Ripken, because he's basically the only guy that plays every game after age 33 or 34. Besides isn't this just another way of adding depth? Basically this is the equivalent to you not wanting the Angels to add a starting pitcher because Weaver should be able to throw 300 innings because Ryan did it at 31.
