I'm liking all the bandwagon fans in Baltimore stuffing the ballots. Adam Jones leading all outfielders in votes is bad enough, but Nick Markakis being in 3rd is a joke.

Richards looked all right as a starter this year. He has looked awful as a reliever. I don't understand why he is still a reliever

Being a baseball fan first, rather than putting a team above all else, I don't have a problem with this. Watch out guys, super fan. I mean is it really that big a deal? No, it is not. He's a future HOF'er that is being honored because this is his last season. I am a Red Sox fan first, but I don't have a problem with them honoring a person of Mariano's caliber. Putting fandom aside, this is baseball history and lore. I'm sure that the Red Sox will do something as well. Did you have a problem with all those ballparks playing Sweet Caroline after the Boston Marathon Bombings? It's simply about bringing baseball together, regardless of what team you root for. Get over it Halo Honk.

DEATHRACERCHEVY reacted to Chuck in Why I Still Watch?!?!?
Oddly enough, it has NOTHING to do with the team possibly making the playoffs anymore.
As a fan, it's the hunt for a Red October that drives our excitement every spring, but in addition to that hope, it's also watching some of the players that capture my interest during these terrible times.
Enter in Mike Trout and the defensive ability of Peter Bourjos, TrumBOMBS, the possibility of Howie Kendrick competing for a batting title and Jered Weaver pitching another no-hitter. Reasons to watch indeed... But witnessing Trout and Bourjos is incredibly exciting for me and like the terrible '94 club that I watched every game despite their awful record, they trotted out young exciting players such as Tim Salmon, Jim Edmonds, Chad Curtis, Garret Anderson, JT Snow, Damien Easley and older vets who all-stars in Bo Jackson and one of my favorite Angels of all time in Chili Davis..
Despite the woes of Pujols and Hamilton, I'm still hopeful these two will go off and never look back. That mildly keeps me tuning in. But we're stuck with these two. We gotta hope they turn it around.
But really, if the Angels are well out of it come late July, the fact that they may become sellers with Dipoto at the helm, REALLY excite me! Remember, it was Dipoto who really liked Corbin and Skaggs and got them for Dan Haren.
Back to Trout and Bourjos. These two are worth the price of admission. Watching them run down balls in the outfield or going over the wall to grab a HR back, or circling the bases for a triple.

It's funny how delusional Laker fans can be, always defending and making excuses for their team. But when it comes to the Angels, there is zero grace given.

^ Adding to this point, most of the teams I loved growing up had a dynasty at one point that was forgotten because the new team was winning it all. So far my mood about the Angels is this. I'm mildly happy when they win, but if they lose it really isn't that big of a deal anymore. With Red Sox winning, I definitely feel hyped,  and I feel that way even if they lose. Right now what is distracting me from caring too much is the fact that I just got into hockey. And I'm really excited to try and attend a playoff game.

I'm so used to all my favorite sports teams losing that I can easily weather this storm. This team just happens to be the most disappointing due to the cost of it.

It's going to take more than a tie game, one out , nobody on at bat to change my take on this guy.
Sorry but- clutch hit, low stress AB does not make this guy a clutch hitter.
Same game but a man on second or two outs and a guy on third and I bet this guy doesn't come through.

This is actually a great comparison. The majority of high quality women sleep around like whores during their teens and 20s with bad boys, and then settle down with some nice guy who listens to her problems and takes her verbal abuse in her 30s. While this dude is treating this lady like a princess (The Angels giving Pujols and Hamilton huge contracts for who they are), other guys did the deed and never had to see her again (St Louis and Texas having both of these guys on the cheap for the best part of their careers, and then not dealing with them when they wanted the the big wedding).

It explains why there were tons of tickets still available today for a home opener in great weather.
