There was awkwardness there too. We dropped him the day after he would not be eligible to be on a playoff roster. Seemed like a FU to Iglesias from angels.

Arte Moreno was one of the owners who voted against Cohen becoming an owner. I wonder if this is a reason, he is selling team

Vasgergian isn't great enough to defer to and mess up another year with rotating or short term broadcasters. You want consistency and familiarity game to game all season. There areother choices, younger up and coming to veterans. The last few years have been as inconsistent as the team.

I’m fine with this. Ready for a solid voice behind the Angels. Though I’ll always prefer Victor. Matty V and O’Neal can move on IMO.

Gonna assume Syndergaard was one of the "Maddon guys" who was pissed about him being fired.

He learned that important life lesson of “if you don’t have something nice to say, then don’t say anything at all”.

I hope they just give Randazzo all 162, but I doubt that happens.

I’d say the Dodgers won that “trade.” Would rather have Martinez at 1/10 than Turner at 2/22

https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/the-board/2022-in-season-prospect-list/farm-ranking?sort=-1,1&type=100&filter=&pos=&team= - the Rays are ranked #1 in terms of their farm system and 9 grade 50 FV or higher prospects. They are always a top 3 organization in terms of their farm system, always in the MLB playoff race, and operate at very low payrolls. They are a remarkably run team. I remember Friedman saying his goal was to build such a strong infrastructure that he could leave and the organization would not miss a beat. And incidentally, he accomplished just that, as this organization is just as strong even after he left.
Much admiration for that franchise to stay this competitive for this long despite playing in arguably the most competitive division for many years.

Regarding Walsh and the TOS, I work as a PT and anytime you are dealing with neurological symptoms, those symptoms are always different with each person. If the symptoms get bad enough it would absolutely be an issue swinging a bat. We just don’t know how bad the symptoms were for Walsh. It is all speculation on our parts and I am willing to take his word on it.

Maybe, but they’re all left handed hitters.
If Dayton Moore was still the GM, I’d say it’s more likely. Picollo was in that front office, but I think he’s less attached to Hosmer than Moore.

If you only pay a player what he’s worth, you will never get a free agent. Multiple teams would certainly be willing to pay a player for the value he’ll actually provide. The team that wins is the team that is willing to overpay. That’s how free agency works. That’s why you can’t build a team with free agents.
(Add: the only way around it is to have a good farm system so you balance the guys producing little for $25M with a bunch of guys producing a lot for $1M.)

I like the moves Perry has made thus far, but nothing pushes the Angels in the playoff picture so far. I do see better seasons from Sandoval and Detmers. If either or both of them pitch like a #2 or 1b, Angels could move into wild card picture. That’s a huge IF.

This is really one of the most intriguing time windows in the history of my interest in the team which goes back to the 70s.
The next owner or ownership group can result in such a wide range of overall outcomes on what this team will look like going forward.
At the core of being a fan is hope for good things for the team you follow.
I have a massive spike in my hope for what is possible with a new owner that has more resources, more operational and strategic competency, and maybe just higher aspirations for greatness on the field.
Even the stadium issue. I can’t help but be hopeful that the next owner is an aggressive beast in building something amazing.
And no, I have no fear that the team moves. I just can’t see it. I don’t think even a sweetheart stadium deal somewhere outside of Southern California can overcome the foundational advantages of being an entrenched Southern California team, so I don’t think there really is any chance of the team moving away.
And I think we have to be close to knowing who the buyer is.
I remember how exciting it was in 1979 to be playoff bound! It was new optimism and energy pumping through me.
I have some of that “new” thrilling energy going on, excited for what could be coming.

I keep circling back to how this is really, by far, our greatest source of optimism.
If you look at the Dodgers and Mets - both organizations were being run by laughable owners. McCourt was struggling so badly with cash flow that his players openly questioned whether their paychecks would bounce. That team had basically no talent in both the MLB and minors. The Wilpons ran the Mets incredibly poorly and did not invest in the team. Once the new ownership groups took over, both teams saw an enormous cash infusion, such that everything turned around for them very quickly.
Our organization, IMO, is in much better shape than both of those organizations were when the new ownership group took over. Whoever takes over the Angels can, very quickly, commit to Ohtani long-term, then start to spend significantly on both FA talent and player development by the next offseason.
I know everyone wants to see the money invested into free agency now, but even if that doesn't occur, our new ownership group should (hopefully) start spending by next offseason.

I love what hes done so far, started off doing the exact right things... but as usual were left wondering if or when they will finish the job, and its starting to look like they wont.
A huge if isnt going to retain Ohtani, im sorry blast me all you want but thats just reality, hes gone if thats who we are.

If this is where we project, and its about right and seems to be consensus, there is no reason to not trade him not and get more value.
Not what i wanted or hoped, but this is where we are today.

I think the Braves don't like William Contreras' defense, know d'Arnaud is getting older, and saw an opportunity to get one of the best catchers in the game in order to fill the catching position long-term.
