It would be incredibly stupid to pay him 83 million to go away.  Put him back in the lineup and make him earn his money.  I really think that he has mentally checked out baseball wise so keep playing him until he gets fed up and retires.  There is no way he lasts 3 more years.

Only if they are drug addicts that don't get punished for their actions in which case, I wouldn't want them anyway.

Hamilton's agent is smart.  He let teams put any language they wanted about his client relapsing knowing that the JDA will void and supersede any such language/clause.  Genius.

He never took a drug test.  At least, it's never been reported that he did.  The arb ruled that he didn't violate the JDA because he never tested positive.  Therefore, one can assume that since he admitted he used drugs before he tested, he didn't have to be tested.  It's a major flaw in the JDA but MLB approved it so Arte is screwed.  Seemingly, any player can use drugs and just admit before they take a test and they won't be punished.

That's all well and good but many medical professionals say it's a disease and addicts are to be treated differently than you and I.

This part of that article stood out for me:
"I'm sure there are a bevy of impending free agents out there looking at the Halos right now and telling their agents Anaheim is at the bottom of their list of desired destinations. Treating a player like this won't sit well."
Is the writer saying that drug users wouldn't be welcome on the Angels so they would sign with a different team? If that's the case, I wouldn't want them to sign here in the first place. Arte is mad that Hamilton relapsed and won't be held accountable for his actions. How does that scare away free agents that aren't drug addicts exactly?

Lol! Arte already owes Hamilton 83 million. CJ can say whatever he wants. His contract is also guaranteed. Let's say he does get traded, Angels still pay a good chunk of the contract. Arte should be able to take some criticism. You don't become a billionaire without some thick skin.

It seems to me that if the FO came out and totally supported Hamilton, they would be blasted.  They are in a lose lose situation.  You are right in the sense that they should do nothing but give praise to him in hopes he might finally listen to his friend and retire. Cots contracts has him getting 23 million this year and 30 million for the next 2 years so if he does not care about getting better, he will stay with the team and collect his paycheck.  MLB has guaranteed contracts so Hamilton really has it made. If I were the FO, I'd kiss his butt so he has no resentment towards them and hope he just retires to save them all that cash.

So what if he is?  I'm sorry but I just don't understand posters here that really think Arte is going to release him and eat 83 million.  I think the most realistic scenario for Hamilton never playing in an Angels uniform again is if they find an equally bad contract a team is willing to swap and Josh agrees to the trade. Ryan Howard? Arod? Those are some terrible contracts off the top of my head that might be feasible. Hamilton is holding ALL the cards here.

beatlesrule got a reaction from AngelsFanSince86 in Hamilton Suspension Rumors/Speculations (post updates here)
It's seeming more and more likely that the initial report of this being a serious/worse issue is an exaggeration.  I bet he only gets a 25 game suspension and will continued to be cuddled and treated like he is a victim and it's not his fault and that he never chose to snort coke or whatever he did and might still continue to do.  I also wouldn't be surprised if he is not suspended at all.  I've read articles that have this drug use as no big deal and that he just needs to get into treatment and that he should get as many chances as he needs as long as he doesn't go off the deep end and use everyday and make a habit of it.  Seems like snorting coke and whatever else he did shouldn't be a factor and that he is just "sick." It's not like he is a coke head and spends his millions supporting his drug habit.  Let him recover from surgery and come back and stink up the batters box while he earns 25 million a year.  That's the fair thing to do for poor ole Hamilton who just has absolutely no control over his actions.  The man deserves to be forgiven anytime he screws up and should never be held accountable for something out of his control. He was born this way. He can do whatever he wants to his body regardless of MLB's rules or the laws of the USA.  Just forget this whole thing happened and let the man play baseball with no consequences.  He is a special person and should be treated as such.

This is what I stated earlier.  He knew the test would be positive so instead of going through with the test, he admitted he used.  Since there was no positive drug test for evidence/record whatever, he may have found a loophole in the system.  It shouldn't matter but I am sure the MLBPA will use any technicality they can find.  Despite the report, I think this will factor into account even though it shouldn't.
