Arte isn't cheap....that's obvious with some of the huge contracts given out.  But there is a pattern of this organization, since Arte, lessening the organizational scope -- meaning less scouts, less int'l presence, etc.  This year alone there's been several negative items out there on the LA Angels regarding them not paying minor leaguers enough, furloughs, etc.  They seem to be label as a team on the far end of the "let's save a buck" side.  Whether that is a valid criticism and fact is not the point.  It's out there and perception is reality.  Maybe it's true...maybe it's a disgruntled employee(s) feeding bad info for a hit job.  IDK.  But there's a lot of smoke.  Could be overstated.  But again, perception is reality and the perception is Arte/Angels are being cheap with the lower end of the organization.   

What about Bieber, Buehler, Nola, or Max Fried and the slew of promising Padre-developed arms?
I think you’re both right though. Teams need to develop their own pitching - but also be able to have the farm system or trade assets to trade for pitching. Free agency is not the solution. 
The Astros also drafted and developed McCullers, Keuchel, Musgrove and apparently now too Jose Urquidy, Framber Valdez, Cristian Javier so they’ve still been able to produce solid MLB arms despite those flops.

I think they pay them nothing because they can get away with it. Simple as that. The laws don’t stop them and the players keep signing up for it. It’s still not right.

I remember being hungover in my early twenties waking up to the Pujols signing. I was pretty excited about getting him when it happened and thought he would be a huge instant boost for the first half of the deal at the least. But I did also realize he probably wouldn't be good towards the end of it. Here we are 9 years later and the fat ass has posted one year of an OPS higher than .800 with us. One fucking year.

Sometimes I wonder what joy people get out of simply being negative and assuming the worst.  Those people should simply fuck off and go be miserable on FB.  They certainly don’t make this place better.  But I guess every forum has trolls that were supposed to just deal with. 

If a meteor hits the Angels team flight while en route to Colorado this team is going to really need to rethink how it travels.  You can't just assume it won't happen.

Or the re-enter the trade market for pitching which the cost of pitching is always cheaper in the off season on the trade market.

Eppler did quite well picking up Goodwin for nothing....got good production from him....and turned him into two P prospects.  That's a job well done. 

Goodwin is an ok 4th OF'er on a good team....his value is not significant...
